In my opinion we are just looking at the new MacBook air's display here ...

It all depends on the aspect ratio the screens are being produced at. If it's 16:10, then it's probably a new MBA screen. 4:3...well, that's suspicious.

I like to think that some tech journalist are at least a little smarter than what we give them credit for, and would be able to tell the difference between the two.

You're too right.

I often get the iPhone 5S and the Galaxy S4 mixed up. I also often get the Galaxy Tab 10.1" (2014) mixed with the iPad. I mean, they're exactly the same if you ignore things like button placement. They both have bezels. They both have screens.

They both come in black.

I REST MY CASE. :|

The fact that both the S4 and Tab have the word "SAMSUNG" written on the front of the device is a bit of a giveaway unless of course you're blind.

I think this will be much more of a convergence project than simply a larger iPad. How exactly I don't know since MS proved that the tablet/laptop combo is not ready for primetime. However with a die shrink and scaling up the processor, Apple's A7 processor could meet or exceed the performance of the current MBA.

I think the bigger question is:

Will there be sometime of included keyboard built-in/cover accessory?

Will it run iOS or OSX ... or both?

I believe one of the reasons behind Apple's push to rewrite all of its in-house software is to modernize all the underpinnings so that it can recompile (in full OSX glory) on ARM64 architecture.

I really think Apple is gearing up for another quantum leap ahead of the competition. This time it will incorporate exclusive technology that Apple has either acquired or developed (liquid metal, PrimeSense, proprietary ARM cores, etc.) and be very difficult to copy legally and technically. If you look at Apple's track record/development cycle they come out with something really ground breaking about every 3 years. So we're a bit overdue.

Tim cook has Been saying that they will be introducing "new product category's" in 2014, obviously everyone just thinks smart watch/TV but this is certainly
A NEW CATEGORY!!:p, And something I would love to use
Just think of a DSLR pumping images into this "near UHD" bad boy for display, Drools.............

It will run iOS just like all the other iPads. Why would they change it? Ideally they want you to buy an iPad and a Mac not one or the other.

He could have someone looking over his shoulder reading for him. Like a guide dog...for words.

Sort of like "Fido bark once for Apple and twice for Samsung". But then the dog would have to be illiterate as well to get them mixed up. Thanks, you made me laugh. :D

Did you see any information about aspect ratio ?

Do you really believe in an useless iPad 12" ???

Did you see any information about aspect ratio?

No, but I think that someone looking at a bunch of screens rolling off an assembly line would have enough common sense not to go "WOOOO BIG IPAD STOP THE PRESSES" without having some evidence to back it up.

The rumor's popped up a number of times. Either there's a bunch of very stupid people, or we're seeing something happening.

Do you really believe in an useless iPad 12" ???

Yeah, much the same way I was pretty sure Apple would release an iPad Mini before it came out, when tons of people around here were calling it a waste of time because no one would want to use something that small (you'd have to file your fingers down olol).

There's no such thing as one size fits all, and every product has its advantages. A bigger iPad. A 12.9" iPad would be better than a 7.9" or 9.7" iPad for doing certain tasks. It'd be far from useless.

I call ********* on this.

Just call shenanigans (since MR has such delicate sensibilities).<grin>

I'm with you, not because I don't think it'd be a great device, I do think it'd be great, but my biggest issue with it is that I can't imagine it's a large enough market that Apple would want to enter it. Already, the mini is outselling the full sized iPad, so people definitely are preferring the smaller format. Not that this wouldn't sell (I'm sure it would), but I'm highly sceptical it would sell in sufficient quantities for Apple to justify building one - that and that alone make be believe this is b******t. ;-)

Filed under: I'll believe it when I see it.

What he said! This is just as bogus as the rumor about 2 new curved screen iPhones next year. I seriously doubt we'll see this. At least not yet.

Just thinking, Apple would have to come up with something incredibly special, because you can buy the Modbook, the company who will turn a MacBook Pro into a tablet.

Still I do like the Surface Pro 2, I can see a bigger 12" iPad Pro working but they have to get the power and battery life balance right like Microsoft has. But then again Apple may just stick iOS7 on it anyway.

According to your logic a 21" iPad could be useful for some tasks ....

Yeah, it could. This has been discussed time and time again around here.

If you only think of the iPad as a content consumption device and nothing more, then why look forward to every new keynote? The iPad is just about perfect as is. It's simple, small, and easy to use. The only thing Apple needs to do is make it thinner and lighter, and maybe update the resolution once every 5 years or so.

...but there are markets where a light and powerful touchscreen tablet with expanded functionality would excel in. Markets the current iPad doesn't address, but something like the iPad Pro would.

A larger iPad isn't useless. It just covers a use you don't want or need.
