Europe. UK. That explains it. Isn't that wear men wear were 'dem skinny pants? Pant's so tight you can see the face of dollar bill through the back pocket?
The type of phone you want still exists. Nothing stopping you from getting a flip phone. But if you think time is going to be reversed and we are going back to them tiny phones, you're bound to be disappointed.

You are such a narrow-minded individual

It's a bit late to be worrying about "OS purity".

As you pointed out, there already is app display fragmentation in iOS, which not every developer is willing to address.

iOS has only been out four years and there are three screen types to deal with, with another on its way if the iPad gets a hires screen.

There's also OS fragmentation, with some devices allowed to multitask; others not.

"Fragmented OSs" are characteristic of the march of progress. There's no way out of it. Better to dive in and deal with different resolutions early on.

Otherwise, we end up in the same position as those phone makers who wanted to keep 320x240 screens forever.

I love your posts.

Always reasonable and informative.

I sometimes go off in a well intentioned but ill conceived rant and the message is lost.

But you always have it thought out.

Perhaps I (and all others) should pay closer attention to your posts.

I actually think the iPhone could look AMAZING at 16:9, but would it look too thick?

It might look amazing when apps actually support it. But just realize that out of the gate pretty much everything would have big black bars on either end.

Eh, whatever they do, I just hope they never try to make the iPad widescreen. I find 4:3 far more practical in general use.

It is not the same image.

All the people that are "impressed" by how much more image can fit on the Galaxy:

It is not the same image! Here is how the phones would look if using the same image, stretched on the iPhone to fit the higher resolution:

I've always wondered why iPhone Apps before they're scaled at 2x on the iPad as shown in the picture here naturally encompass more screen real-estate than the iPhone does. Wouldn't that mean the Apps could scale to a larger screen just fine, since they already do on the iPad before scaled to 2x?

There were some cool things about Jobs, his sense of fashion was not one of them. Did you read about how he adopted his choice of clothing in the latter years?

I'm not fond of his turtle neck sweaters, but I can rock some Levis, and New Balance no problem!

If you can't fit a 4 inch phone in your pocket, you have another issue Apple can't fix.

Exactly

LOL It would appear allot of Apple fans are very small in stature and have Cabbage Patch fingers, among other things.

Buy pants that fit.

Making a reference like that... says it all.

You obviously have never owned or worn a pair of NB. Most comfortable shoes on the planet!:D

Yes I have been told. Can't knock foot comfort. Just wish so many of the people wearing them didn't look like refugees from a Star Trek convention.

Um... the majority of normal people who buy android phones buy them because they are cheaper or because they couldn't get the iPhone on their network when they were looking to upgrade, not because they have a bigger screen, i.e. not because the phone was particularly good, but because it was good enough for what they wanted. If you look at many statistics polls, of the people currently locked in to contract with an android phone, about 68% say they are considering an iPhone as their next phone because they prefer the simplicity despite the higher price. Contrast that to iPhone owners who overwhelmingly would prefer to stick to the brand.

The way I see it iphone 4S/iphone 5 will not be as "cheap" as Android and people will continue to buy Android especially if Android is "good enough".
Do you hear yourself man? Stop and listen. So basically if Android continues to do what they are doing Apple is screwed. What is Apple's game plan to win back Android customers? A 3.5 inch display in the iphone 5 will be a disaster. Those big fat cheap Android phones are winning and I have one of them.

3.5 is perfect!

Do the following as a test;
hold the iPhone as you normally would, then touch the top corner and bottom corner without moving the phone in your grip.
I find that its a perfect reach with 3.5 and if it were any bigger, I would struggle.
the phone would get wider and taller, which is more uncomfortable in the pocket.
I would like to see an edge to edge screen (make the phone smaller)

The Gap, Urban Outfitters, these are all nerd traps, made to look cool for uncool people. For people who are not particular on how they look, just run of the mill.
Levi's is an American staple that has been around for 100 plus years, I get that. Doesn't make them cool.

It's probably best not to make a show of oneself when it comes to clothing, at least not if you're a man. And it's certainly interesting to see people who try hard to be cool by dishing out at men's boutiques.

Pretty metro at that point.

I have a pair for running/the gym, and a casual pair. LOL at the Star Trek convention comment. I know what you mean, but the OG lifestyle New Balance are sick looking!

Some of the above sounds reasonable. However, "Android phones are winning" all depends on what you mean by winning:
From Forbes: Apple takes Half (mobile industry profits)

At the end of the day, for companies in the mobile game, it's the money that matters. Just ask HP.

I don't get why people are trashing the whole concept of using your phone with one hand. Has no one ever used their iPhone with something in their other hand? If I'm in a situation where it is convenient to use 2 hands, I'm more than likely using my iPad. Ergonomic ally, even, how is it more comfortable to operate a phone with two hands? In my opinion you'd look kinda weird operating a phone with both hands, rather than using it as a handheld electronic device. And who honestly watches movies on their iPhones on even a semi-regular basis? Sounds like you all need to be introduced to the iPad.
