Somehow, I’m more onboard about lack of Charging brick in the box than I ever was about lack of Headphone Jack🤔

Same!

Assuming that Apple actually wants to do something environmental, rather than simply to make money by separating the purchase, I'm all for it! They should in fact have a separate accessories box, which in total is more packaging!!, or something alternative.

Personally the way I'd do it is an Apple Store only purchase where the way it is now is the default (and only what can be bought in a brick & mortar) but you can, at a discount, get no accessories model. Similar to say if you were buying a CTO Mac. The problem I see in offering both options in all locations is that it 2 different packaging types for all models they'll sell… and they won't do that!

Those 5w chargers are still widely used. Business trips (even last year) - several airports were chalk full of those 5w bricks plugged into phones that had red <10% batteries right before a flight.

I've had the fun experience of pulling out my Anker multi-port 2.4a charger and showing people how much faster their phone can charge... the look of amazement on people's faces... it is sad how many people don't know this.

Welp, there’s no question about it now: Apple is doing away with the in-box power adapter, or at least really considering it.

Which is the best case scenario. Many folks think they're removing the lightning cable as well, which I highly doubt.

The box would be about half as thick without the power adapter. It would prevent hundreds of tons of paper and plastic waste every year, save on costs, allow them to ship more at a time too. It’s a win all around.

It can be a win all round for some but it probably isn't overall for all.

Firstly, it assumes a 5W adapter in the box. Who wants a 5W adapter when the phone can charge at so much more?! If a 20W adapter is in the box then even though I have a boatload of 5W adapters although I'd want that 20W adapter.

Additionally, a charger less phone box + a charger in a separate box is more packaging and more damaging to the environment. At which point the only case you can make for its validity is more profits as you have the overhead costs of 2 separate products rather than the 1.

And then you have those that aren't coming from previous iPhone ownership.

If it's done right, which it can be, then sure it can be a win for all… but Apple won't do it that way.

Lmaoooo wow. This confirms it.

Maybe they’ll start doing it next year. Remove EarPods this year and then the charger next year. Maybe...

Either way, I don’t care.

Those were the adapters I swapped out first! When travelling I want the fastest charge I can get and the 5W adapter is last on that list. The only thing going for it is the size. I use a 40W USB-C charger for a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 else the 60W MBP charger. My 5W adapters usually end up in places like beside the bed as a night time, during sleep, charge isn't time sensitive.

I would assume most ppl do as I do and use them at various different plugs in the home and at work. Saves having to take a charge with you everywhere.

.... well reading the responses here it seems most ppl for some reason keep them in the box!? Is that just a USA thing? I'm from the UK and can't think of anyone I know that doesn't just have them dotted around the house for convenience. Surely its a pain having to take 1 charger around with you every time you need to charge your phone?
Perhaps you live in the Surrey stockbroker belt. How big does one's apartment or house have to be so it is too onerous to go to another room to get the charger? Not a great look to have chargers lying around various rooms for convenience. How many times a day are you charging your phone?

I just BOUGHT another 5 watt charger! They don't last forever.
And the bigger chargers (12 watt iPad etc) heat up the battery too much.

I have the 11 Pro, and still use the 5W charger from the XS I had previously. Haven't touched the cable and 18W brick since I got the phone. If it still works (and I take extremely good care of my iPhone and its acessories), there is no need to replace.

I, and I assume most people, sell it with their old phone, therefore we need a new one with whatever phone we upgrade to. Stop being cheap and continue to include the adapter.

I certainly do not include my charger when I sell a Phone (usually with Swaps). Maybe it will never happen, but if cost of the charger was reduced from the overall price and was made as an optional accessory like when buying a laptop, this could be very good for the environment. Of course if Apple simply holds the price the same (way more likely), I can see how frustrating this would be.

The environment impact is not due to packaging, but to manufacturing millions of chargers. If they aren't used, don't build them.

For me Apple could remove the usb cable as well...

If it’s going to be a USB-C to Lightning cable, then I would want the block. The only “c” block I have is for my iPP. If I upgrade my phone this year, I’ll need the usb-c block.

Totally agree. I bought new charger only because of power delivery but if included in the box I wouldn’t have bought it.

Apple should do usb-c phone so anyone can use their mbp charger or any other charger as the usb c is the norm.

This is PURE truth. And then I look down at the reactions and people disagreed with it? What kind of delusional person would disagree with this statement? Ridiculous.
