This is all about getting people to buy the expensive Airpower charging mat that will no doubt be released this fall. I wont need a charger anyway, I am buying my new iPhone and putting it in a display case as a work of art in my formal dining room. I will invite my family, friends and neighbours to come over and admire the exquisite sealed box. It will be interesting to see if Samsung follows suit and also has the courage to do this or if they use the fact their phones still come with a charger as a selling point.

I, and I assume most people, sell it with their old phone, therefore we need a new one with whatever phone we upgrade to. Stop being cheap and continue to include the adapter.
Looks they “forgot” that option.

If it’s going to be a USB-C to Lightning cable, then I would want the block. The only “c” block I have is for my iPP. If I upgrade my phone this year, I’ll need the usb-c block.

Same. I avoid daily fast charging (to preserve battery lifespan) and the only C block I have is for my MacBook Air.

If Apple wants to make the charger OPTIONAL I'm good with that, but don't remove it entirely. Price the new iPhone with charger at the usual price, but give those of us who don't need one a discount on the price, and ship it in a smaller box. I have many of these things lying around and don't need another one so I would gladly pay LESS to not get a new one, but I don't want to pay the same as before and get one I don't need, nor pay the same and not get one at all.

They're not used because they ship a 5W adapter in the box. If it was a "proper" charger then they would be used. The 5W adapter is e-waste before they've made it.
if you need an accessory, you should be able to buy it separately and then choose if you want a fast charger or a regular one. it will always be better to have the option to pass acquiring something you don't need.

now if those greedy bastards could give us the option without robing us, that would be great.

Selling a phone without a charger is like selling a car without tires. No way!
well, if you already have tires at home, it would be more than ok...

Perhaps you live in the Surrey stockbroker belt. How big does one's apartment or house have to be so it is too onerous to go to another room to get the charger? Not a great look to have chargers lying around various rooms for convenience. How many times a day are you charging your phone?

Why bother getting the charger when you can have one perma plugged into the various outlets? Maybe that person values pragmatism over looks?

no. I have wireless chargers where I need to charge. The charger with my current phone is still in its box. Unused.

My wife has a anker multi charger for the dock for watch/AirPods. Again, her phone charger is still in the box.

just buy a charger if you need one. At least now you can get one that actually will charge it quickly. 👍

One day soon, iPhone 1x is going to ditch the Lightning port and be chargeable only wirelessly. I can't wait to read the comments when that happens :)

A device's charger, phone or otherwise, isn't an accessory but a necessity! As with all things it comes down to what assumptions you make and assuming a charger is an accessory is a wrong one.

I have a bunch of chargers & ear phones, never used

Simply put a Qcode in the box along with only the phone & a cord
Use the code to have Apple mail you one

I'm in the camp that a charger will not be in the box, but you can get a free one just for asking (with proof of purchase, of course).

We have (between wife and I) the boxes for our last several iPhones. On a whim, I opened them up. Of 8 boxes, 7 still had chargers inside, and a handful still had charging cables and earbuds.

Its just mind blowing to me that they're pulling this off when they only offered the 18W fast charger included in the box in ONE iPHONE GENERATION.

YEAH! I HAVE PLENTY OF SPARE CHARGERS..... 5Ws!!! <- who can bare with this sh... nowadays? how can they say "you have plenty anyways" when I clearly DONT have a fast charger? since I didn't purchased their iPhone 11! (coming from iPhone X to iPhone 12 Pro)

That move is only justified if they REALLY bring EVERY MODEL down by -$50usd and they give the option during purchase (no extra steps).

I think you may mean lazy, not pragmatic.

Pragmatism can be a derivative of laziness. You are practical with what you have. If Apple took away the chargers, maybe that encourages people to either purchase additional wall adapters or to selectively place existing wall adapters.

I toss one in my travel bag, and one in my backpack, but At home I primarily use my iPad charger for both iPad and phone, because it charges so much faster.

it's not necessary to include it if you already have one. you don't have to think that much about it. I'll be glad they ditch it out and more. we have to stop producing what we don't need.

if you need a charger, get one. if you don't then don't. don't force me to get a new one if I don't need it. it's a nonsense. we have to stop producing what we don't need. and then reduce the amongst of things what we need. repeat.

So Apple starts including the awesome 18W chargers in the iPhone 11 Pro, and now must assume those people will upgrade to the 12 Pro and no longer need one.

What about all the other iPhone users who want to upgrade and don't have one? Now they get to miss out on what would have normally been an included accessory.

That sucks. It's more than obvious this will happen. Reduces costs, helps the environment, less volume to ship (smaller boxes). But still sucks for those who do need a fast charger.
