Rumor has it that the Ginza store in Tokyo was the inspiration for this store. I am guessing Normal shop space on the first floor, genius bar and internet cafe on the second and theatre/training center on the third floor. Which seems to mirror similar arrangements overseas. Still very nice looking store. I'd be happy t have them down the street.

Been to a few of them now and 5th avenue is the most creative. Don't expect the second sydney store or Melbourne to be so exciting. Sydney 2 is in Chatswood and there is lillte exciting spaces out there. Melbourne is in Chadstone Shopping Mall and will be limited by the confines of the mall environment. not to mention there are already 2 apple resellers in both Chadstone and Chatswood ! However apple's decision to use Westfield malls as the location of its other 2 stores was influenced by a deal which it struck with Westfield for presence in the US and other more lucrative territories.

The layout is as follows:

Ground floor: 80 Macs on display, free Wifi, all the Macs are available for the public.
First Floor: iPod (and presumably iPhone when it arrives) stuff.
Second Floor: World's largest Genius Bar, training areas etc.

It's a monster, the glass staircase is behind the back wall. The stairs are glass and they are fixed to the aluminium walls - it's very swish.

Well, I've got school tomorrow so there's no way that I can camp out. There's a good chance that I'll be there tomorrow at the opening for the new store. Can't wait!

Forecast for Sydney tomorrow say afternoon showers....why?!

Awesome! And it's opening so soon too. Congratulations to all the Aussies who have been waiting for this for so long.
2nd that !.......just up from the Circular Q??

Do the old Manly ferries still function??

Yes the Manly ferries still run -I think you can even see them on this satellite imagel

Lots of news stories about the queue outside the apple store and a lot of media attention about iphone. Its got a very very good reception generally, I thought the Aussie press would critisise it but they ahven't which is great to see.

Just heard on the news here in Sydney that the store is the 2nd biggest in the world. Im guessing second after 5th Avenue??

I keep hearing people oooing and ahhhing over this new store. Hey folks, guess what, it sells the exact same stuff they sell in every other store. You still have to buy special configured macs online.

With all of these new locations, it's starting to remind me of the Hard Rock Cafe back in the early 90's (minus the terrible food). Maybe Apple should start selling T-SHIRTS that say Apple Store - <location>

They would probably sell really well.

they captured anotherone from the building across the street Wednesday evening - Sydney time.

With some bad photoshop retouchin I might be inn it :)

I propose a new Apple Lifetime Achievement: any person who shall visit every street-facing Apple store in the world shall henceforth be said to have completed the Apple Store Grand Tour.

Just walked past the store - party vibe in the queue! People in costumes and TV crews around.

I can see the line up around the corner from my office window - looks like it's slowly building. I'm sure at 1pm there will be many people checking it out.

The Apple secrecy machine seemed to backfire a bit with the News journos:
But when a NEWS.com.au photographer arrived outside the building, they were told not to take photos when the front doors were opened and later to "move on" – from the public footpath – as if the building housed a top-secret defence project.

With so many resources devoted to keeping the company's projects secret, and just as many spent trying to guess their details, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that the new Apple Store is, in fact, just a shop.

That's one of the risks with spin - things don't always spin the way you want them to. Not that one sceptical article is going to do much to dampen the enthusiasm.

I was live on channel 9 morning show today, and have done at least 20 interviews since yesterday. Apple has been feeding us, the stores close by has been feeding us, etc. This has been a great experience so far and it is 2,5h to go.

I'm defenetly going to do it again.
