I am not that excited. I mean, I was hoping for more of a "netbook" experience, and from what I understand this is more "kindle".

Ok. Good, I don't have to be part of the first wave. Now I am pinning my hopes on the new iphone OS.

Also, practicallity wise it looks like a nightmare. A laptop/netbook is good because the keyboard is layed horizontally, which is a natural typing position, and the screen remains vertical, so everything looks nice. With this thing you're either going to have to hold it/cup it with one arm which only leaves you with one arm to do anything else. Or just lay it on a flat surface in which case you'll have to crane your head over it to see the screen properly.

Not really as practical as it would first seem.

This is a huge letdown.

This needs multitasking bad....I can't even imagine trying to do actual business work with iwork....

Let's imagine this. I need to make a new presentation for a new product line. Normally, I am bouncing between spreadsheets, pictures, documents, etc and pulling data from all these different sources and not having the ability to bounce around, pull data in makes it difficult to actually work on. If I have to close every application for the next (even with saved state since sometimes it is necessary to have 2 documents opened at once) I will be very disappointed...well moreso that I already am anyway :(

THIS. iWork is cool, but generally when I am creating keynotes, powerpoints, documents, whatever - I'm jumping around a few programs and windows, trying to compile all my info, add pictures, copy+paste stuff, maybe watch some videos or open PDFs/other docs to get more ideas... this works very casually, and is good for the casual user or maybe in an emergency, but I don't see this working for the people who need the full functionality of a laptop.

Can novels also play movies, show photos, and stream internet content?

No because they're novels, for reading. The fact is that this is not going to succeed in the eBook department:

-Books more expensive than competitors
-No eink screen
-Only 10 hours battery life

HA! 9.99 -> EACH!

nice one, it's like upgrading the iTouch 2.0? gimme some money 3.0? gimme some more Pages, Keynote...ka-ching.. os 4.0? ooh man you know the drill..

once again, i want one of this big screen thingy to read books!

IPS screen is not for hours of reading...

This thing is going to sell like HOTCAKES and is going to change the book world. Steve has done it again.

Nah, it's a great product. But it isn't revolutionary at all.

The reader app looks nice, but when I read I don't want distractions. So I think making it look like a real book (with the pages showing at the right) is unproductive. Besides, it's a glossy screen, not very suitable for reading.

"We're also going to have models with 3G"

So expect to pay $200 extra just to get the 3G chip in your iPad...

Somebody mentioned Stephen Fry. Who is he? He's a British actor and TV personality. He has weird nose always facing his left side, he is trying to appear intelligent, while he appears rather dumb and he must be the biggest snob in the world. I bet he will love the tablet. We are only days away from seeing these self-conscious people in Starbucks with their artificially busy looks and brand new Apple tablet. Personally, I'm going back to paper and pen. Anybody wants an iPhone?

I'm quoting this so it doesn't vanish into the aether. Wow.

Hmm.. I'm just not going to pay for multiple devices for connectivity. Data for your iPhone, data for your iPad - that just doesn't make sense.

Imagine putting the oversized "screen protector" on one of those suckers!
I wonder if you can get the rubber/silicon case in a larger size to put around it. hahaha.

If it was running a standalone OS (MacOS) this thing would be useful, but im disappointed, i don't need a big iPhone and i can do everything else on my other computers already. I have books made out of paper too!

I guess if the screen flicker comes to the iPad you could use it as an emergency strobe light if you get stuck on the side of the road.

Pad to me means a womens sanitary napkin, which is kind of ironic in a way.
