$599 for the 32Gb sounds like a very nice price point to me. Add in the $10 for Pages and that is VERY competitive against the bottom end Macbook...

Hmm, that price has suddenly made my next purchase very very difficult indeed. Excuse me while I cross everything and pray they count this as a computer so as to qualify for education prices....

KEYBOARD DOCK! Please please be cheap... well, cheap for apple anyway.

I take it you were joking. My guess is you can type twice as fast on a iPhone. Trying to use both your hands to type on a touch screen is impossible. Because of the size, using your thumbs or a few fingers will be hard as well.

Well I hope it is "wonderful" but you make good points. I hope it's like the Russian OLED keyboard where you can program each one (maybe animation) but thousands of dollars cheaper.

Hah, prices. The lowest is nice but the max... for a barely usable amount of memory and 3G that's an awful lot.

This has been a bad day.

Expected it to be this price. Disappointed that its on ATT's network though. Apple has really screwed ATT.

Ha ha ha ha
Very clever, Steve, very clever...

First, you talk about that ugly thing, designed to read with, but carrying a crappy screen. At least you say that it goes up to 10 hours of battery...
And now you mention the 3G connectivity... what about the battery...? :) Fine... it's unlocked... otherwise no one is going to buy that ugly thing (but you've realised that Android is out there... and people is tired of getting married to a telecom company for a year or more... so this is just you trying to reaching a market that you should've tried a long time ago)

iPad 3G/64GB... 829$ ? Excuse me... YOU have a MacBook for 999$! (Yes... I know... no 3G and no memory-hd but still... much more powerful!)

$129 extra for 3G? lol

$499 sounds great for just 16GB, but I think the price gives away the reality of it.... a larger iPhone without the phone part

I'll consider buying a tablet whenthey are around $200-400. @ $500-700, I'll just stick with my iPhone.

I knew this thing would be cheap! Because at a grand it would have failed!! Now my mother will want one! So this will be replacing her netbook!!! :D

Even though 3G is AT&T exclusive, the no-contract required offer makes this much more attractive. If you don't like the service (and you wont), just cancel.
Now how about Iphone tethering?

How rugged is it?

Hmm. There are kids around my house.

I want to see him drop it and the glass not break.

I want to see him spill coffee on it, and not instantly void the warranty.

While not necessary, it would be nice to not worry about such things so much.

===

I also want to see him use a Bluetooth keyboard. It's one thing to tap in a few lines on a flat screen, it's quite another to do more.

Edit: yay! Happened while I was typing.

I've been on the fence about the tablet but $499 is brilliant.

I'll be buying one. Thanks Steve!

60 days :(

Ooohh...dock is pretty though. Perfect for the rare occasion when I need to type a bunch on it!

Ok, this thing is NOT fail. $499 is an absolutely fine price for this thing, only 100 bucks more than the largest iPod touch.
499 16 gig

599 32 gig

699 64 gig...add 130 for 3 g
Interesting… a long time ago (when the tablet was rumored to be ~5.5") I predicted the price would be $100 more than an equivalent capacity iPod touch. Then as the rumors went to larger display sizes, I adjusted my predictions accordingly to closer to +$200.

I haven't predicted prices for a while (although recently I have thought $700~$900) but it looks like my prediction was right on the mark!
