Engadget: 11:22AM Jonny Ive talking about magical devices. "That's exactly what the iPad is." Magical? Really? Doesn't seem that magical to us!

This is hilarious. Let's start it at $499! But if you want 32GB of space, add on another hundred! Want more? Add on another hundred to that! Want 3G with that 64GB, add on $130!

If anything this will kill the base Macbook. but as a product by itself, it's lacking a lot of features netbooks have. And reading books on an IPS display = FAIL

That was a given weeks ago. ;-)

I must admit I severely disliked this thing initially. Inflating an iTouch != innovation.

iWork makes it tolerable. Contract-less 3G + being unlocked is also a win. As for the price -- don't think anyone expected to be that low!

Hmm I guess a keyboard dock is kind of nifty but what does this device offer that virtually any laptop on the market doesn't? iPhone OS with the app store? Ok sure.

I... I'm just confused and I want to cry. :(

This works as an 'every person' computer, something you can pick up and use.

Multitasking w/ iWork and the keyboard *could* have made it work for me. But so far it's a little too simplistic for my needs. It'll sell though. And the 499 isn't THAT attractive once you consider it doesn't have a chance of adding 3G and only has 16Gigs free space.

The model works for the States with widely available 3G / Wifi. Internationally ... questionable ...

“It just feels right to hold the internet in your hand — when you see something, you just reach out and tap it. You don’t think about it… you just DO.

Is he talking about Apple websites? Or Pron...? :D

I hope this gadget has bulletproof glass...

With the keyboard dock, this thing will be a far better travel companion for me than my MacBook. eBay time!

Did the guy just say "it feels right to use the web on this thing. Just as in the same way it just FEELS right to hold a book."

And I thought Apple were trying to get rid of books. :)

Just saw: Starting at $499. Netbook makers, be very afraid.

My netbook cost £200. This $499 model is roughly £308, and then slap on VAT, etc (in all fairness I did purchase the netbook when VAT was 15%, not 17.5% like it is now).

The netbook has a proper keyboard and a 250GB hard drive. Could pay a bit more to get one with 3g built in and it would still be much cheaper.

Anyone who buys this deserves to be shot!

64gb, 1gHz, no phone or camera, no mention of radio.
$829 for 3G version AND a data contract!!!
wtf, this is beyond a slap in the face for a big iPod,
jog on, Steve.

Its so funny how you guys at Macrumors all do the same nonsense everytime Apple announces a new device. Jesus frickin Christ, how about you guys wait until the thing actually comes out before you start with the self-entitlement mentality and how badly this thing will fail.

I remember the iPod every one was complaining, possibly even more than right now. iPhone, everyone was complaining "NO STEVE THIS THING SUCKS THERE WILL BE FINGERPRINTS ALL OVER IT BLAH BLAH BLAH"

You guys just never learn. Thats why I try to avoid the message boards anytime Apple announces something new, because I know it will be filled with immature kids and loads of ignorance.

I bought a first gen iPod, I still have it and it still works

The lack of multi tasking is a big reason why it is a no go for me, if your'e going to buy it then good for you. I'm glad it fits what you need, you are going to buy it right??
