Even if I had a billion dollars I wouldn't buy it. No use....it just takes up space where I could have oxygen...which I might actually use. It's inefficient.

I was hoping to use this as an e-reader, but I'm not very fond of the glossy screen, which makes it absolutely awful for reading in the train, the bus or other sun lighted areas. The Kindle or other e-readers are capable of this.

Seems to me Apple just wanted to create a tablet. They did that, but it's definitely not the elaborate work Apple is known for.

No Camera? No Mic input???

No camera no GPS (specs say it is cell carrier assisted GPS just like the Iphone)) but Yes there is a mike input probably like the second gen ipod Touch. it's in the specs.

The ad on the Apple Website shows some "connector" that lets you put your photos on. But if it isn't running iLife(iPhoto), what good would having your pictures on there do? I'm really trying to like this for travel, because it weighs so little, and if I could store pics it would help. I know, I can see it in the store if/when it finally gets there, but I'm naturally curious now.

It has a nice photo viewing app. Like the iPhone's but bigger, better and faster. Watch the video of the event when it's posted -- I think they demo'ed it.

guys/gals go over to apple and watch the video of people actually using it.. It gave me a completely different impression than just reading the keynote. Also i get what that big ass bezel is for.. Gives you a place for your fingers to go without activating the multi-touch sensors.. I think i'm sold on this thing w/o 3g. I'll just tether to my iPhone...

too expensive
less handy than a small notebook
expected alot more features

indeed, what a waste of time this was

Color me unimpressed. Most of my issues with this thing have already been said by others. The biggest thing for me is how you hold / use this thing.

Laying it flat on a table will be rather annoying. It's big enough where it looks like it could be clumsy to hold and use at the same time. Really, the only comfortable way you can use this thing is on your lap with your legs crossed. How long do you want to sit like that with this?

If I am on an airplane and want to watch a movie, I have to either hold it manually so I can actually see the screen, or having it lay down on the seat-tray which will make it further difficult to watch.

It's a giant iPhone folks. Nothing more, nothing less. The only good thing I see about this device is the price. I was expecting it to be a lot more. Then again, I was expecting the device itself to be a lot more.

Magical? Revolutionary? I don't think so.

It's clear that you can't carry it in your pocket, so if you have to lug something around, might as well take your lap top which has a keyboard, and other programs you're gonna use.

My MacBook Pro doesn't weigh 1.5 pounds and get 10 hours to a charge.

Not even the MacBook Air gets those specs.

So if all you need is a device to browse the web and check your email while travelling, maybe play some music and YouTube videos -- which is 99.999% of what I do with my Asus netbook -- then this device will fill that niche perfectly.

Good, but not spectacular

For the last years or so, I alway feel excited and happy after watching Apple reveal new product. They always have something exciting to show. However, I was somewhat disappointed with today's announcement.

From a pricing stand point, it feels alright. No contract base model is only slightly more expensive than how much Iphone would cost (without contract).

The Ipad design in my opinion, is not the prettiest, and the size is somewhat ... awkward. The application presentation was the worse part of today's presentation (except for iwork). I can't believe Apple actually presented the facebook app that is not optimized for the IPAD. I mean, why would I use the facebook app if I can just log on facebook on safari? Anyway, I am sure if the developers have more time, they'll come up with better polished programs.

I think its a rather ****** product.... lets see 64gigs, yep you can get get an iPod touch with that.

If it had a 5.0 MP camera/video, had at least 128GB SSD, a full OS (not that proprietary app store) that is its biggest fail, tv tuner, and a micro-USB in/out instead of the damn iPod cord SERIOUSLY!??!?!? y'all are still hung on that ****, apple??? If it had all that for the same pricing, I would consider buying one. Being proprietary is one of the biggest weaknesses for long term advancement. I want to be able to use programs apple may not approve of, ie a torrent app

edit: and yes, multitasking is missing wth

You remember that feeling the first time you were with a girl and she took her bra off and you didn't know it was a wonderbra?

That pretty much sums it up.

So when is the 4.0 announcement coming?

There is potential here....but for now, I will pass. Let's see what kind of apps come out for this thing. Also hoping for a camera in v.2.

epic iFAIL

Blame this one squarely on the fanboys. Everybody has been clamoring for a tablet for how long now.

Apple feels like they need to make a move to capitalize off of it.

And this is the result.

So...basically...my iPhone has a smaller screen and can do 99.9% of what this iFail can do.

They won't release iBooks on the iPhone as a selling point to the iFail.

iWork....who gives a flying goat turd? How many people are actually going to use this thing for iWork projects?

Sad...Huge letdown.

I am really glad to see that they got out of needing a contract for 3G on these things. 130$ extra though? Does the chip cost that much? Or does that money go to AT&T?

Looking at the 3G spec's i can say for certain that it will more than likely wont work with T-Moible's 3G network. That is was one of the deal breakers for me. Sorry Steve, but I think this one is going to be one of the devices that will be under your FAIL list.

Jeez people quit complaining, if you don't like it don't buy it. I'm going to get one, most likely 32gb with 3g, for my textbooks. I spent $550 on books this semester, so a one time $730 isn't bad if the price of books is around $20 or $30

This is not a device for me at the moment - i am too much of a power user, and i live in a small apartment. BUT, i do see a huge opportunity in this product.

My parents. They have a pretty big house, they don't wan't to go to the office of the house to get their house, and they dont want their computer to be in the living room, its just too big and ugly. Here the iPad fits perfectly, if my dad wants to watch tv but my mom doesn't, she can just take the iPad (which is small and pretty, something you don't have to put away) and surf, listen to music, read, find a recipe for some food, watch something else, whatever - its so easy.. They really need to get home-banking on this mofo. If i had a bigger house i would be on this PRONTO.
I also see it useful on trainrides and soforth as a netbook alternative, but in my opinion it's a livingroom/kitchen computer.

Except that they would probably be much better of using Lenovo pad that offers two processors (ARM and x86) and internet browser with Flash player

A brand new 100% touch interface OS experience ? - 1st of a new breed of productivity apps designed entirely for touch - and that's not innovation ? - if that's your take you simply don't understand how outdated the desktop mouse metaphor really is.

You have't even seen the file system yet - cos there will be one for iWork - and that doesn't need a mouse pointer.

Yes, this is early days but this is the future here today - dirt cheap.

and if this were a presentation about innovative app i'd be impressed, but this was suppose to be about the device and it is severely lacking in just about every way

and if you want to talk about new ways to look at file systems, this isn't it, same file system with a touch screen, it's been done before, just never on such a big screen, but still the same guts inside, so not revolutionary at all

Must say I find the OS to be very disappointing. While the built-in apps are okay the OS itself feels very dumbed-down, very simple. One small example is the dock - will you be able to have more than 4 icons? Folders? How about some menus like the SBS settings on jailbroken iPhones?

It does hurt. I was ready to buy an iPod Touch 4G if it was "good enough" and sporting a multitasking iPhone OS 4.0.

Yeah, so here's the real kick in the stones: do I tell my mom to go ahead and buy her iPhone and MacBook, only to have Apple announce hardware updates in 3 weeks?

:(
