there is one... check the specs page on the bottom...
It's an adapter like the camera kits of old. You can't use SD to boost your storage.

Yeah, so here's the real kick in the stones: do I tell my mom to go ahead and buy her iPhone and MacBook, only to have Apple announce hardware updates in 3 weeks?

:(
Good luck. My MacBook was too expensive for my old boss too. I'm a bit happier that I don't have to live without my Mac notebook.

Huge disappointment.

Didnt expect that from apple, it is just a big screen iphone/ipod touch.

Nobody cares enough about this article to rate it either way. lol

Ah, some fanboys here say Microsoft is too quick to release something half-baked. :D

PRO
Pricing not bad at all
No data plans/contracts needed!!!

MAJOR CON (for me)
No flash/Hulu watching in bed
No multi-tasking
No downloading of full papers

*All the cons are based on what I've seen.

As for full newspaper downloading, here's the issue: I live in NYC and I want to carry this on the subway to read the paper. The Kindle delivers the whole paper to your device. The iPad seems to be web based. No wifi in subway = no reading the paper on the train.
Good point... anything streaming will be a disaster for subway use

Does anyone else find the keyboard dock just ....sad? That is so pathetic, and misses the cool factor by a mile.

I would have been blown away if they had showed it in a charging dock with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse sitting next to it. If that were the case it could replace most of what I do with my laptop 80% of the time.

That and a usb cable to sync ( a cable?? really? ) were the two major let downs to me.

Per the Apple site for the iPad, you can sync via Bluetooth - so you should be able to use a BT keyboard. However, with the multitouch input, a mouse wouldn't be useful, IMO.

I see a lot of criticism, but I'm not sure why. I don't have an iPhone, iPod Touch, Kindle or any other type of netbook or table device. I one of those few people who've been waiting for something different and this "might" be it.

I'll hold off on criticism or praise until I can actually test the device out in a store.

A lot of the critiscism is from people who haven't seen the accessory list or read up on the device... they're yelling loud about things that are there, like not being able to upload photo to it directly. Hey, there are adapters.

ideas....thats about as much i like about it, the ideas behind it.

the thick border/bezel is just irritating.
if it had the thin bezel say the 15 or 17 had itd be perfect visually.
the size is a little disappointing, with that much space in there id imagine a slite increase of some kind.

i mean the idea is very nice....a touch screen portable device, looking at my macbookpros display, if could just detach it and make it a all ine one portable device with touch screen capabilities and a decent OS platform for files & data thatd be spectacular.

so for an idea, its a good idea...but 799$ for a really cool web browser and email client eh....

so at&t exclusivity still? meh....

iPad Camera Connection Kit
http://images.apple.com/ipad/specs/images/usb_connectors_20100127.jpg
The Camera Connection Kit gives you two ways to import photos and videos from a digital camera. The Camera Connector lets you import your photos and videos to iPad using the camera’s USB cable. Or you can use the SD Card Reader to import photos and videos directly from the camera’s SD card.

Who wants to be the first modder to use that dock to usb adapter for wired tethering? lol

Skype on iPad?

So the iPad has got 3G and it can run Apps from the existing App Store...

Just wondering... if AT&T allows voice over IP (eventually), is there any chance, in theory, that one can install Apps such as Skype on the iPad and use it as a phone??

Yes I know there won't be camera, it's kinda big and it will rely heavily on the 3G/Wifi network, but in theory that should be possible right?

I expect something closer to a laptop, than a phone, honestly.

Multitasking, Non-Closed OS, new interface (not just iphone OS X).
Flash support (Hulu, Native Youtube).
Windows Support (Windows Media, Silverlight, etc).

In short:
I want a device that can surf the web. The full web.

I want to be able to SAVE word documents, pdfs, etc.

I want to run multiple apps at once. Facebook open on the side (20% of screen) with Mail using the rest (80%).

The Hardware is fine. But the rest of this device is phoned in. It's just a big iphone. Who is going to buy this?

Very well put. Essentially, you want a tablet COMPUTER. Not a stripped down version of one or a e-reader that has apps. Me too.

I cannot believe some of the whining, like Apple told YOU what you were getting and didn't deliver. How can anyone get upset over a rumor that didn't come true... anyone complaining this isn't the "tablet" they expected, pull your damn tampon out and stop your bitching...
I don't think that's it, to be honest. It was that there isn't a tablet out there that delivers what a lot of people want, and there is faith/hope that Apple - due to their history - is able to resolve problems that no other company can. The fact that the iPad is more of a toy than a computer is justifiably depressing.

The main thing that annoys me is that real lack of user input for things like diagrams. Currently I take notes in Physics class on my MacBook...which is fine until diagrams come along. I was really hoping the iPad would aid me in this...guess not.

Companies like Sony, Samsung and even Cowon kick out hundreds of products a year and a huge company like Apple produces 2/3 products max and they are still crap.

What the hell do there employees actually do all day?

I see a lot of criticism, but I'm not sure why. I don't have an iPhone, iPod Touch, Kindle or any other type of netbook or table device. I one of those few people who've been waiting for something different and this "might" be it.

I'll hold off on criticism or praise until I can actually test the device out in a store.

Slow cooker is different, would you buy it?

So lets all just admit we were expecting a little more thanks to the rumors, but lets be realistic Video Conferencing on 3G :( not realistic.

But it would be nice to have the option to do it over wifi. It is very easy to limit that application to wifi only. And you know a portable photobooth app would get all kinds of people in trouble (even if it is fun).

So exactly what was it that the Apple R&D presented to Steve Jobs to convert him from anti-tablet to pro-tablet? I can't see anything we've seen today converting him. Maybe they developed a hypnotIse app?

I'm the average Jane. Not a lot of money, loves gadgets, and isn't a gaming nerd. This was disappointing.

I have an ipod touch. This is a glorified ipod touch. You can't use it as a computer, on its own, because you still need to sync it. Sure, you can take it on trips and such, but I can do that with my touch, and its hella easier to cart around.

$500 base for a larger ipod touch? If i didn't have one already...mayyyyybe I'd be interested, but personally, I'm saving for an iphone, and a home based mac.

A bit disappointed there wasn't a "one more thing" today announcing the iphone for Verizon. :(

Jeez people quit complaining, if you don't like it don't buy it. I'm going to get one, most likely 32gb with 3g, for my textbooks. I spent $550 on books this semester, so a one time $730 isn't bad if the price of books is around $20 or $30

Don't mean to burst your bubble but the extreme cost of a textbook has little to do with printing it on paper and binding it. I would be very very surprised if if this put a dent in textbook prices at all so in the end all you'll save is your back, suppose that's worth $500.

I really like that concept! Sad thing is the huge plastic strip on the back of the 3G version. If they would have placed it on the bottom - but no it needed to hang above the apple :-(

I wonder if you could get a 3G connection with an iPhone via thethering. Anyone knows more about that already?
