You dont get assisted GPS without cell phone service... period.
Having played with a Nook, I can say it is DOA. Painfully slow. Beautiful device but practically unusable.
But #2, this is NOT another portable computer . It's really a dedicated gadget/device in its own category -- but basically a portable media viewer/reader. So complaints like "It won't let us freely download applications for it from the web!" don't hold a lot of water, IMHO. Since I only have expectations for it to do certain, specific tasks - why am I concerned if it can do that or not?
The main thing that annoys me is that real lack of user input for things like diagrams. Currently I take notes in Physics class on my MacBook...which is fine until diagrams come along. I was really hoping the iPad would aid me in this...guess not.
You forgot something...
macbook:
6pounds
ipad:
3 pounds
This does make a difference in handling and transporting it, I think.
This is one of the things that I have been waiting for from Apple. As I watched a live reporter talk about it I was almost crying for joy! This will be the bigger brother for my iPod Touch (That I am typing on now). I can't wait for March 28th (when it comes out) Got to get one!![]()
Ipad has it. When for the iphone?

One single slim device for carrying around textbooks at school and writing papers and listening to music and cheaper than a Macbook? Forget about it. It's a slam dunk for students.
Umm...you would need a microphone first. I didn't see one on the spec list.

and how many people even have a kindle? lol
This thing is not killing an ebook reader. There is a reason those ebook readers are eInk, because staring at an active screen for hours reading a book DOES NOT WORK.I'm glad someone else sees that too. This device is a ebook reader killer.
A Kindle DX is $500 (for now) this does 100x more. You have to have a bigger screen to enjoy books honestly.
It might not be a netbook KILLER, but its competes with it...and in MOST situations if you're buying a netbook its not for REAL work. I dont think iPad is meant to be for that either.
Lastly, I know this isnt a big thing, but it is a 9.7" GORGEOUS digital picture frame. A good one these days goes for a couple hundred bucks....
So to combine all that and price at at $499/629 starting i think is great.
They didn't forget it, they intentionally held it back so that the iPad had just enough to make it a must-have despite its shortcomings. When everyone's bought this one they add camera, 128 GB etc, just to make you buy a new one.I guess I was expecting more.
How could they forget the camera?
Exactly - SPOT ON!!
This is strictly for pleasure and sofa diddling - a family iplatform. Totally maintenance free - no need for endless updating, having to maintain a PC or a Mac, no need for the complexity of running a computer, messing about with AV software etc etc -it's more like a touchscreen Wii than a computer.
It'll hit Windows harder than it will Mac which is why I think there is such animosity in this thread.
Evidently a lot of people seem to think that Apple were going to release a $499 device that rendered their Macbook's or iPhones irrelevant.
Folks, iWork aside, this is NOT for running your Final Cut Pro on! ( though I am GAGGING for the release of a complimentary Apple made control surface!)
There are some very surprising new things in the sdk. I'm just sayin'
No revolutionary feature in the device. Probably will end up along the HiFi.
Also no other announcements for iPhone, iPhone OS 4.0, MacBook and MacBook Pro updates. Possibly Apple's darkest day?![]()
