I'm sooo excited for next month! to finally witness the unveiling of Apple's Fourth Revolutionary Product!!:D:D:D

...let's see:

-- 1978 Apple ][ (the original "personal" computer)
-- 1984 Mac
-- 2001 iPod *
-- 2007 iPhone
-- 2009 inTouch

* Not to mention the iPod HiFi and the iPod Leather Case

i want to use it w/ illustrator / photoshop...
Me, too. And I already own a Cintiq!

But this would be waaay more portable, for when I hit the road with the laptop.
I'm calling BS on this one. How would anyone from Gizmodo, a site known to spread rumors, be able to see the topsecret tablet?
If you read the first sentence article, it doesn't say anyone from Gizmodo has. It says "a source," as in not Gizmodo.

Ha for $999 we would be lucky to have:

Osx Snow Leopard
Intel Atom cpu
1 Gb of ram

I doubt the OS is gonna be iPhone like or "OSX" like. I'm guessing it's basically going to be a better version of the Dashboard from 10.4 or 10.5. This would be better than the Iphone OS because then you could multitask better and the Widget infrastructure is already a proven workspace. I'm not saying they are just going to slap the OSX Dashboard into the device, they'll jazz it up and make it more work oriented. Just my two cents.

I hope Apple releases something beyond a giant iPod Touch, you can actually type up documents and use Microsoft office or iWork on a hackintosh netbook. However I have my doubts that this tablet is going to be more than a media pad and companion to a full fledged computer. Giving consumers the ability to use Snow Leopard/iWork/iLife on this thing at a price < $1000 would eat into 13" MBP/MB Air sales. I hope Apple proves me wrong and they actually build something that is not a overpriced iPod Touch.

I agree completely. An oversized/overpriced iPod would be a huge disappointment.

I just had an amazing idea of a way to use this guy. If it could really act as a second screen, or secondary interface for existing macs, I hope its wirelessly.

Connect the iProd to mb wirelessly, have MB connected to HDTV wired. Bingo, awesome connectivity.

We will have to wait and see though...

I'll bet that the tablet can be used in multiples as an entry and display devices with other tablets and Macs. Some examples:

--2x2 to NxN video wall of displays (security, presentations, etc)
--multiple, custom MultiTouch kbs (AV Studio, etc)
--custom Big-Ass Table

Apple already supplies the basic software to control a VideoWall, free, with Leopard as Quartz Composer Visualizer.

I don´t buy a "bigger" iPhone, i want a full OS which i can work with. No better iPhone OS. I keep my money for an better MAC.

These rumours are starting to sound more and more ridiculous. Good to see Apple's counter spionage forces functioning fully.

My thought also. I'm reminded of all the pre-iPhone rumors, when several different, and incorrect, form factors were being rumored.

Told ya! The killer app for this thing is going to be Apple Remote Desktop! Imagine a portable second screen for your main Mac that you can bring to the patio and touch control Front Row with. Or at the office bring your second screen to the big meeting.

Or you could just have a laptop and take the whole thing with you.

And it begins...

Rumours starting out of nowhere over just how many awesome features it will apparently have.. everyone all YAAAAY NEW APPLE STUFFS ^_^

Next is the "WHAT THE HELL? IT'LL NEVER SELL. I HATE YOU APPLE. WAY TO SUCK" phase when more details come to light.

And finally you'll all love it and buy it anyway

It won't be a giant iPhone right down to the Home button. That's a stupid idea. It will either have full OSX or a OSX+Cocoa Touch hybrid. Yes, ARM and iPhone app support is certainly plausible, but it's not going to be a one-app-at-a-time giant-phone-without-phone-capabilities black-curvy-backed silver-bordered plastic thingy. It will have a sleek unibody design and some kind of mechanism that allows you to protect the screen without it becoming a laptop. I can see it borrowing more from the MacBook Air's book than the iPhone's.

If I'm wrong, and it's chunky, plastic and has a home button, then Steve Jobs' absence has impacted the company and, like last time, he'll come back just in time to announce the latest product's key feature: A HANDLE!!! GEE WILLIKERS!

:cool::apple:

Edit:
I guess I didn't read far enough past page one... there are some decent comments around... I just got put off by the immediate zerg rush of OMG APPLE TAKE MY MONEY :p Sorry guys

+1

Plus it better have a real processor in it! None of this ARM crap.

Who cares if it has a pair of ARM or even the much hyped dual-core ARM if it runs a version of OS X! That is what the tablet will need to be a success - at least according to me. Next, Apple will introduce the iTurd - a genuine piece of SJ's bowel movement for $1899 with no future upgrades planned - it will sell like, well, hotcakes!

D

As described this doesn't sound compelling at all. Limited functionality at a high price.

I don't get the act as a 10 inch track pad? It just doesn't seem right. For use with an iMac we would have to lay the pad down flat on your desk or whatever to utilize it. Crazy idea! And a very expensive track pad at that--)))

I wish a special event would get scheduled soon so we can see the real deal and know all of it's real features!
;)
