China is so far out to lunch here. Has anyone looked at a map to see what China claims as their own? It would be like The Netherlands drawing a line from France to the UK past Germany and to Denmark and claiming all water in this area belongs to them.

True. If China had any legal or historical claims they wouldn't need to be engaging in this ridiculous island-building. The UN ruling proved that. But they're wasting their money because no one is going to recognise them anyway.

China may be trying the tactic of starting a negotiation process with the maximum possible claim in the hope that during subsequent negotiations it still gets much more than it deserves, especially by bullying its neighbours heavily.

But I can't see this working out in their favour. All it will end up doing is waste billions while pissing off its neighbours and turning the West off China when really it needs the reverse.

Personal views are just views.... Apple is not gonna loose out on the biggest market they have not over anything. Weather it be a few disputes or protests.... It's not in Apple's manner to comment and ruffle their hands in the media...

To me it looks they've been planning this for some time. The August 2006 declaration effectively clobbers the one they made in 1996 agreeing to the 200 mile nautical zone as well as having to play nice with anybody.

The UK response is instructive as it declares all such claims illegal.

Also the Chinese claim directly conflicts with a 200 mile exclusive zone around each of the neighbouring countries. It is claiming use to the exclusion of other sovereign countries, to put this in proper perspective.

Not sure what venue one would resolve this with, except military action to destroy the Chinese camps on disputed islands and perhaps the islands themselves.

At this point, it is simple:

To NOT vote for Hillary is to LET Trump win.

If that happens, God help all non upper-middle-class white people in the country, for starters.

I'm pretty far from being a liberal, but Trump is a man that so far seems like an unreasonable jackass. The President of the United States MUST be able to compromise.

Trump, as a succesful entepreneur and CEO, is used to being an out-of-touch DICTATOR.

The two jobs are INCOMPATIBLE.

But right now, given his current popularity, this is looking like we're going to get another lesson in the Electoral College...

Him in charge, cowboying it against China, for example, is NOT GOING TO WORK.

That said, WWIII is around the corner if China keeps pushing it. I don't see it far-feched for them to try to expand southward first, either. Given their attitude of late, the end is near.
