Kinda wish they'd get more people on the development teams just so that Mac OS X isn't always placed on the back burner when it comes to iOS. I know iOS & Mac OS X share a lot of code, but there are so many things that can only be done on Mac OS X.

Until Apple adds the important producer apps on the iPad (Xcode, iBooks Author, etc.) and a few other things (multiuser support), I'm tired of iOS getting all the glory. I know iOS devices sell better, but maybe that's because Apple somewhat neglects everything else.

Simply because most people have their phone in their hand significantly more than their laptop but I do agree. It's frustrating.

It all fits together with the late October retina MacBook Pro Haswell update. Not that these are waiting for Mavericks but it will work out well. Nice coincidence.

UI change?

So, I wonder if this allows for additional time to change the UI and adapt it to iOS7 and iCloud? Just saying…

And where might they find the qualified people for these development teams? They already purchase small companies just to get their tallent.

I've been holding off from purchasing my first mac for months now. I guess that means I won't be expecting anything from next week's event.

Although I really wish they're going to surprise us with a 'One More Thing' and BOOOM, New Macs & Mavericks baby! :D

That would really make everyone's day even brighter! Now that's for sure!

Amen. Leopard and Snow Leopard were delayed due to engineering focus on iOS. Steve Jobs kept a small, tightly knit engineering base for OS X and iOS in order to monitor and control development. With Apple's success and growth, it's time to abandon that old "style" and bring in the right support for a company of this size.

Are there any reasons not to believe this upgrade will be £13.99 ($19.99) as was the case with Mountain Lion?

September is 'considered' fall to most people, but it's technically still summer until the 22nd.

Well September is both technically. I never assume when Apple announces a fall release it will happen in September. Nor from a lot of other companies.

Apple is becoming very good at vaporware - The new Mac Pro, OS X 10.9, iOS 7 for iPad... all coming after very long delays.

OK, maybe I'm not being very fair, but nonetheless it seems like there has been a very long gap between significant Apple product/software releases.

Erm, what 10.9 delay?

Nice, I can't wait. I'm looking forward to iBooks on my MBP

You really read books on your laptop? You can do this already with the Kindle App (it's very similar to iBooks on OSX), but IMHO it sucks to read longer documents (-> books) on a laptop or even desktop screen.

I'm pretty sure iOS 7 is already done or will be done by today and being packaged in phones waiting to release on the 20th. Not sure if everything is done overseas or if the software injections are done here.

Agreed. the screen is too big!

wow, Late October?

Steve Jobs must be so Proud up in the iCloud...

I guess it's not Apple Computers Inc anymore... it's iPods and everything iOS related including iTunes company now.

"Expect an army of new products": iPhone 5S takes the 5's spot from last year, the iPhone 5C takes the iPod touch's spot too.Last year wasn't considered an army. But this one is, because the iPad is coming out too therefore they have to work hard on iOS 7 for iPad thus leaving Mavericks for Ocotober in order to polish iOS 7 on iPad.:)
