Another ~6 weeks? Plenty of time to tweak the icons and remove the last gasps of skeumorphism.

Let's hope that the iOS 7 iPad "delay" gives a little extra time to squeeze in multiple users accounts.

I would also like the option of quickly bringing up one of my technical iBooks when working on my laptop, without having to go find my iPad.

Your comment "You really read books on your laptop? You can do this already with the Kindle App" doesn't really add anything to what the OP or I would like, nor is it true as we can't do what we want via the Kindle app.

Just chill - no need to jump down our throats and imply that what we want is strange and that we should jump through technical hoops to achieve it.

Chill? I just pointed out that you can read books with the kindle app, and its pretty much like iBooks (on OSX). They even share most of the books and have the same price, so you could just buy your next book via amazon and enjoy it on your MacBook. That's all what I was saying, don't read more into it.

Thank you, enjoy your weekend.

iOS 7 and OS 10.9 are not vaporware and they are not late. Both were introduced at a developers conference and developer builds have been seeded regularly ever since. Apple has to announce/preview software so that developers have time to ready their software.

Most customers just use their Apple computers / devices and don't get hung up on the specific release dates of software. We MacRumors members are a special group.

If iPhones come in September and Mavericks come end of October, does that mean iPads are coming at the beginning of October? They would probably want to release them before the earnings call and beginning of October would be only a few weeks from iPhones and iOS 7 which could be why iOS 7 for iPad will apparently be delayed slightly.

the iPhone 5C takes the iPod touch's spot too.

Unlikely. Unless the unsubsidized price is in the same range as the iPod. Keep in mind that not everyone wants or can keep paying the prices companies charge on data plans. This especially holds in the US cellphone market. This is the reason (along with the extra 100+ dollars hardware difference apple charges) the iPod is still around. Until Apple wants to cut down that price difference and put a low end iPhone on the same price point as the iPod, the iPod will remain.

What's Left to Do?

I hear DP7 is pretty "Rock Solid" (remember System 7?) So what is left to fix? What could take two months?

Apple is becoming very good at vaporware - The new Mac Pro, OS X 10.9, iOS 7 for iPad... all coming after very long delays.

OK, maybe I'm not being very fair, but nonetheless it seems like there has been a very long gap between significant Apple product/software releases.

I don't think you know what vaporware really means. Talking about delays implies that a release date existed and it was postponed. This is not the case.

There are no delays, there is no vaporware.

How long can Apple keep up with these updates (almost every year) to OSX... very aggressive.

i say wait till the event next tuesday and if nothing is announced about os x maverick release date then october it is otherwise till then this is just speculation.

Yes, I know what vaporware is. Don't be so sensitive. Like I said, I'm not being very fair to Apple. I know OS X 10.9 is still in beta and no firm release date was promised. Nor for iOS 7. Nor for the new Mac Pro. But like I said, there's been a long gap since the last release of significance, Apple's competitors have been releasing quality products left and right, and rumors of new Apple delays don't help. That's all. And right now, we're all sitting around waiting with baited breath for these new products. Ones that Apple has splashed all over it's own website. Ones that Apple is running commercials for in movie theaters (Mac Pro) and ones that Apple investors are hoping can bring Apple's stock price from the high $400's/low $500's back to the $700-$800 is was last year at this time.

I'm just hoping that Apple doesn't get bogged down by lack of focus and that they get things out in a timely fashion. If you look at my sig and past posts, you'll see I've massively supported Apple for the last 30 years.

I just don't want to see my favorite computer company lose its mojo or experience such significant delays that it impacts their reputation.

Ok.....

so we are changing from "Fall" to " End of October" mode...? Nice to know. Will see if happens in that date.....:D

:):apple:

In all honesty I would prefer having iOS 7 first THEN OS X 10.9

I'm excited about iOS 7 too, but I still spend most of my time on my Mac. Until tablets and phones get to the point where I can work as efficiently and quickly on them, I'll benefit most from OS X upgrades.

Let's hope that the iOS 7 iPad "delay" gives a little extra time to squeeze in multiple users accounts.

If they did this, it might be enough for us to finally get an iPad. Been on the fence for a while now, but I can't justify it for work — it just doesn't do enough with productivity apps currently. For play it's not practical for my wife and I to share an iPad unless there are separate user accounts. But I'm skeptical / sceptical they would do this since I think Apple's goal is for everyone to have their own device. Hope they prove me wrong, though.

Windows 8.1 is lated for mid October so this makes some sense on that front too. Want to keep Mac folk as shiny and new as their Windows brethren.

Waiting with bated breath for new hardware, especially pricing on the trashcan^wMac Pro.

wow, Late October?

Steve Jobs must be so Proud up in the iCloud...

I guess it's not Apple Computers Inc anymore... it's iPods and everything iOS related including iTunes company now.

It's been Apple Inc for some time. Steve announced the change himself.

Late October is not a delay. It's just analysts being the first four letters in their job title. ;)

what are they gonna be doing to mavericks for the next two months? just bug fixes? gamecenter and reminders UI have gone unchanged. wish they would update those in the timeframe we got left.

Judging by the status of Mavericks DP7, this is a very realistic timeframe. Mavericks is stable but there are still bugs to be ironed out and some things need to get optimized.
Mavericks makes my retina Macbook Pro new. Especially browsing with Safari is a whole new experience, very smooth.
Playing videos in full screen causes no issues whatsoever and power management is great, much better compared to Mountain Lion.
iBooks is also great

Well I guess this means that the new generation of Macbook Pros with Haswell chips will be delayed too. I sense that the consensus is that Apple is waiting for Mavericks before the next gen of MBP's are sold.

Dang.. I was really hoping to get one in September.
