wow, Late October?

Steve Jobs must be so Proud up in the iCloud...

I guess it's not Apple Computers Inc anymore... it's iPods and everything iOS related including iTunes company now.

Because Apple releases on time (this fall) like they said?

IMO, it is very unlikely that Apple will keep iPads back with iOS6 for "several months" after the release of iOS 7.

Too bad :(

I was hoping for it soon, could really use the multi display support.

You realize that Steve Jobs pushed for/created/slaved over creating the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and iTunes, right?..Those weren't created after he died..

They shouldn't unveil any new iPad without iOS7 optimized for it.
The last thing you want is iOS6 on your iPad and iOS7 on your iPhone.

It's bearable I suppose, but it'll just look like their experiencing the world of Android fragmentation.

They're not going to..They're going to release the iPad later this year, with the iPad version of iOS 7 ready to go.

I doubt that will happen but I would be annoying without a doubt. Im more so excited for a new rMBP and Mavericks than a 5s and iOS7.

Kinda wish they'd get more people on the development teams just so that Mac OS X isn't always placed on the back burner when it comes to iOS. I know iOS & Mac OS X share a lot of code, but there are so many things that can only be done on Mac OS X.

Until Apple adds the important producer apps on the iPad (Xcode, iBooks Author, etc.) and a few other things (multiuser support), I'm tired of iOS getting all the glory. I know iOS devices sell better, but maybe that's because Apple somewhat neglects everything else.

I feel ya... in this "must have it now" economy, any wait feels like a long wait.

However, too many chefs in the kitchen could make things worse. More programmers = more potential bugs, more meetings, etc. So there is a trade off. I for one do not think OSX is on the back burner at all. Apple made a decision to do a major release every year with minor updates throughout the year for the current version. That is certainly quite a change from the software industry in general from just 4 or 5 years ago.

As far as more producer apps for things like the iPhone, iPad, etc. I don't know... tablets and other "screen only" devices were built as media consumption devices. You really need a laptop, or a computer to do some quality production. This is why I'd much rather get my kid a laptop vs. an iPad when she is old enough to have one.

Amen. Leopard and Snow Leopard were delayed due to engineering focus on iOS. Steve Jobs kept a small, tightly knit engineering base for OS X and iOS in order to monitor and control development. With Apple's success and growth, it's time to abandon that old "style" and bring in the right support for a company of this size.

Why? Does a bigger team develop faster and overcome challenges more quickly? So the answer to every challenge is to throw more people at it. Wow, life really is easy.

Also, the delay you refer to is rumor, not stated fact. A product without a stated release date cannot be delayed. There is no launch date announced, then how can it be missed? We've been told fall, this gives a pretty big window.

If iOS 7 for iPad comes out in October that's not several months. But maybe Apple has been spending the past few weeks finalizing the iPad version so its ready to go at the same time. Because 6 and 7 are so visually different I can see Apple wanting them to drop at the same time for all iOS devices.

You really read books on your laptop? You can do this already with the Kindle App (it's very similar to iBooks on OSX), but IMHO it sucks to read longer documents (-> books) on a laptop or even desktop screen.

Nope but I reference books in my work, and it will be invaluable to refer to them on the screen, coy and paste and notate. It's funny how closed minded people are to the needs of others, and the failure to envisage different usage scenarios.

Unveil and ship are two different things. Personally I think Apple will announce the new iPads next week & start taking pre-orders. However, they will ship in early Oct after the first couple of iPhone launch waves & before the Mac event in Mid-Oct.

Uh, just take a deep breath and relax... no need to be insulting. If you really use iBooks work, good for you , it will be a nice addition.

Yes, I imagine he would be very proud. If Apple was primarily about desktop computing right now, I'd be very surprised if the company still existed. The company he rescued is about to score a home run and continues to innovate, evolve and set it's own pace of development in a world of knee jerk copycat products and 'jump the gun' products (samsung gear with a 14" phone anyone?!)

Apple is a technology company. That's why Apple is relevant in 2013. So a desktop OS comes a few weeks later than a mobile OS and this makes you double guess what a dead man would think?

How about a little perspective?

Nothing in my post was insulting or levelled at anyone at a personal level. I'm entirely calm.

Hopefully this also means new Mac Pro which will also mean (FINALLY) new Thunderbolt Display. Been waiting on a Thunderbolt Display update for over a year. I'll be buying two when they finally release an updated version.

I've always found the Kindle app somewhat lacking when trying to read my iBooks...

Late October is a nice. Nothing is really going on during that time so it will be nice to play around on Mavrix.

Good, maybe...

Good, as long as they use the time to make it more consistent and stable. It is not quite ready for prime time. I like the latest subtle changes, but the animations have to be more consistent. And... For heaven's sake, fix Aperture ONCE AND FOR ALL. Give me Aperture 4.0 or something. But A2 is the worst piece of junk Apple actually sells. Sorry to be so harsh...

Jobs started the trend towards favouring iOS.

You were probably being sarcastic though.

Well, then reread my post, I didn't say anything about iBooks on kindle. But you can read iBooks on kindle or vice versa; you just have to get rid of the DRM crap.

iBooks is nice, but with kindle you can read books with different devices, just prophylactic.

I didn't say anything about iBooks on kindle.

I would also like the option of quickly bringing up one of my technical iBooks when working on my laptop, without having to go find my iPad.

Your comment "You really read books on your laptop? You can do this already with the Kindle App" doesn't really add anything to what the OP or I would like, nor is it true as we can't do what we want via the Kindle app.

Just chill - no need to jump down our throats and imply that what we want is strange and that we should jump through technical hoops to achieve it.
