Okay, maybe this is because I don't actually own an iPad and have only used those belonging to friends, but I really don't see a problem with the screen.

I don't see any pixels, and I find the screen great for surfing and all that. I just don't see how doubling the pixels would benefit me in any real way.

This is just me, and it's clear that not everyone (most) don't agree with me but that's been my experience. I'm more excited about processor/ram/built in usb/sd card reader upgrades than the screen.

Well thats sorted the arguments on MacRumors out for the next year :D

and everyone said not to bother with 1st gen

So far, the feature list for the new iPad is:

- 2 cameras, at least one of which is 1megapixel...score!

Happy with my 1st gen iPad - fast, light and without pointless video conferencing!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; de-de) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Sad but might be true! Although don't hope so! :(

I agree. But when it comes to product upgrades, I always expect the least so I'll end up being pleased with what's announced. Hell I was exited with the 3GS upgrading from my 3G.

Lovely. Now all the procrastinators have another reason to hold off for another year, since the next generation will be better.

Plural of this: "these"

Seriously, a relative of mine (who cannot stand Apple because of the way everything is locked down, secretive, and limited with the company) made a good point. Apple hypes up their products when in fact they are playing catch-up with current technology. I mean, look at the rumored camera on the iPad2. Yes, it should have a camera this time around. It should have had a camera LAST YEAR. But now we are getting reports of just a 1MB camera. Seriously, there are good things about Apple, but with them holding back on certain technology pieces just so they can do it NEXT YEAR is getting a little bit freaking old. Another example is the iPod Touch, in which they just had a camera put in the last model when we expected it back in 2009.

Or it could be that they didn't have the feature ready in time to release it on that revision.

No need for the eye roll. Unless you can afford to buy every single release of a product, it makes sense to time your purchase so that you get the features you most care about.

At least this gives us current iPad owners a little less buyer's remorse in a few months when iPad 2 comes out. Double resolution and I'd be upgrading this year... no resolution change means I can probably wait until next year. I hope... then again, I'm an "Apple fanboy," (according to my friends) so you never know! :)

Step 1: Release Beta ipad sell millions and profit
Step 2: Release ipad 2 with slight revisions sell millions to beta testers and profit
Step 3: Release ipad 3 with slight revisions sell millions to who bought the ipad 2 and the first ipad and make millions more
Step 4:.....

All the more reason to take my talents to XOOOOOOM!

Now do i give my Ipad to my wife or sell it to cover the cost of Xooooom.

Decisions, Decisions...:D

Gruber merely states that there will be no pixel doubling in the next iPad; however it could just be much higher.

Most developers now probably have more resolution-independent code (to support the 3GS, the iPhone 4, and the iPad) so an iPad with increased resolution - but not pixel doubled - might not 'break' as many apps.

You're not alone.

Fun Fact: The iPad's pixels per inch is higher than a 2009 iMac's screen.

So, you know, sometimes there's a disconnect between "what's good" and "what's the newest thing available." Sometimes they're not the same thing.

Yes, I'd like a higher-rez iPad screen. I really really would. But sometimes 'good enough' is good enough. Certainly when you're trying to hit a $499 price point on a device that everyone thought was gonna cost $999 last year. Remember that? Remember how shocked we were by the price? That comes with compromises.

Will wait and see what happens if no retina or a better resolution then will look at the other 3D screens with Android 3.0 coming out.

No iPad 2 for me

Didn't get iPad 1 and won't be getting iPad 2. It's iPad 3 for me. And the retina display is worth the wait.

No we hype up Apple products. Apple tend to be very secretive about what will be, and when they do we all drool at it. Apple will blow all the garbage in the market as they have always have. Sure it may not be a quadcore Arm A12 or what ever the Trolls are drooling for, but I am sure it will not be what the rumors are saying in the end. I for one think the iPad 1 rocks and will be getting the iPad 2 when it comes out because like their iphone 4 works great for me and my needs and looks like something I would want to have. Now go buy some plastic xoom and have fun.

If you want products that just jam in specs and features without making them ALL WORK TOGETHER to make the WHOLE product good, then don't buy Apple. Apple is not about cramming in the latest hardware and see if they can whip up some junk to make it appear to work. They take time to make sure the software is there to give you something clean and something that works well.

I mean really.... my GF's cell phone (which was once a claimed iPhone killer) is junk. Poorly executed. No updates. Horrible touch screen... but the spec list is sooooo cool. Also, look at the Playbook... probably one of the best competitors to the iPad coming, yet they are struggling to get the battery life up above 6 hours. Something has to support all the gadgets.

Again... as I always say... these are all just rumors. real info coming soon. I think iPad 2 will meet expectations or exceed them. Apple always seems to put a couple of "WOW" things in we didn't expect. Sometime some let downs, but still, overall the best product out there. Like the iPad 1.0. Not spec rich, but still the best on the market today and set the standard that everyone else in the market is trying to beat.

The Trolls forget so fast, limited long term memory. :p

Higher Res Needed

If Apple wants us to read newspapers and magazines on the iPad they're really going to have to up the screen resolution. Also, unless they significantly upgrade the displays I'm not going to be buying an iPad...I'll just stick with my Macbook Air.
