Long since past are those days I'm afraid.
Now its more 'buy the latest iToy so you can stay fashionable'. I'll pass on that noise.

Disagree. I upgraded from an SE to the XR. Other than a bit too bulky, I'm extremely happy with that decision. I still have the SE and it performs admirably, but the Lightning port was annoying me. Actually had two SE's, and both exhibited the same problem... it would maintain a data connection, but not a power connection. Not sure if that's a problem with the Lightning port specific to the SE or the Lightning port in general. Anyway, I rarely plug my XR in... it just sits next to me on the wireless charger. Face ID is great, the gestures are amazing! Loving the experience. I had also noticed that several app developers were ignoring the smaller 4" form factor and apps require scrolling to view the entire screen. Annoying!

So while it may be "just another iPhone", I've personally experienced a serious upgrade. More than just a toy, thank you. :p

Wow, they must really be struggling to get these XR sold! Remember when there was massive queues outside Apple stores with people who couldn't wait to get the next iPhone?

Every day in my workplace I have people looking to have their older mac or iPhone repaired and I hear the same thing over and over. "The latest iPhone/MacBook/iMac is just too expensive and I can't justify the cost".

Wake up Apple.

And for all you people that are just being snarky, welcome to business.

When Wallstreet demands $90B+ in sales in 90 days, you have to start pushing harder. This doesn't mean Apple is failing, the XR is a flop, or any other doom and gloom story.

This means Apple is trying to cram MORE sales into the same amount of time and that requires new tactics.

Or you could just stick the middle finger up at what Wall Street demands couldn't you?

I just replaced my 6's battery, so I'm good.

Also, no home button = no thanks.

I thought I'd miss the Home button, and only do when the phone is laying on a flat surface next to me. But for the remainder of the time, Face ID is superior... almost magical. You'll see what I mean once you try it a few times. It truly makes the security layer invisible in the overall experience.

No mention of wireless charging..unless is the Xs series only

The XR does have wireless charging. All iPhones have supported wireless charging from the 8 series on.

That said, I wouldn't consider wireless charging to be a reason to upgrade, personally. I tested it in an Apple Store with the Belkin pucks on the XS and XR tables and the phone seems to have to be positioned just so on the puck in order for the phone to begin charging. I would say 1 out of 3 times I picked a phone up and placed it back down on the puck, it did not begin to charge. If and when AirPower sees the light of day, hopefully positioning of the phone will be less of an issue since AirPower has a larger surface area than the Belkin puck.

The only reason wall street "demands" those level of sales is because Apple was previously able to meet, or even exceed, their forecasts.

I really wanted Xs but too much money. The Xr would be good but too big for me. Why weren't the Xs and XR the same size. Typical Apple alway a caveat, one thing that puts doubt in my mind. My iPhone 6 has a new a battery and I will just wait for now.

Apple has always been a fashion brand first. A real computer user who does real work needs a real PC, not a Fisher Price PowerBook/MacBook/iMac/MacPro.

Something seems fishy/off about this campaign.

Apple is quite literally right now advertising on their homepage a trade in deal that's better than this email deal.

unless I'm missing something else.

However, checked if the deal is here in Canada and HAHAHA, Apple you're kidding me with these Canadian prices... even after trade in discounts.

That USD price is tempting to give the Xr a try. The Canadian equivelant is a joke. 449 to CAD should be 595 based on today's exchange rate. Apple is literally pocketing an extra $50 CAD in profit out of the Canadian market.

"Desperate"

They're still selling more iPhone XRs than any other non-Apple model of phone.
It seems like they need some more marketing to sell even more, I mean I thought they sold enough already. Probably the best selling iPhone from 10 years ago.

But it is also bigger, heavier and notchier than my 7, which works just fine.

This particular e-mail was targeted to owners of the 6, but I don't disagree compared to the 7. The Xr is better in some ways, but worse in others. And the Xs line is far more expensive than what I paid for my 7 Plus. For people with 7 and newer, there accordingly is no clear, reasonably-priced upgrade path. I think that's the big problem Apple faces right now and I hope they see it.

Apple: Price is what is preventing me from upgrading two iPhones. And this upgrade scheme won't work on me!

Apple is advertising? Whatever happened to Thinking Different? Didn't people just get a Mac back in the days of Steve Jobs without advertising?

And they will continue to, but it might require pushing harder as there are only 90 days in a quarter.

I'd argue in their recent quarter, they didn't push hard enough. I'm glad to see them fighting back by pushing harder.

You can't just sit back and say, "WELP."

The XR screen is not an improvement over the 6 Plus screen for sharpness and usable real estate. Fonts also look smaller so it's more difficult to read text.

The XR does have a better color gamut and contrast ratio, but in my book, sharpness is king, and overall the XR screen is a downgrade from the 6 plus.
