Disagree. I upgraded from an SE to the XR. Other than a bit too bulky, I'm extremely happy with that decision. I still have the SE and it performs admirably, but the Lightning port was annoying me. Actually had two SE's, and both exhibited the same problem... it would maintain a data connection, but not a power connection. Not sure if that's a problem with the Lightning port specific to the SE or the Lightning port in general. Anyway, I rarely plug my XR in... it just sits next to me on the wireless charger. Face ID is great, the gestures are amazing! Loving the experience. I had also noticed that several app developers were ignoring the smaller 4" form factor and apps require scrolling to view the entire screen. Annoying!

So while it may be "just another iPhone", I've personally experienced a serious upgrade. More than just a toy, thank you. :p

The symptom you described with your SE is usually the result of a lint buildup in the lightening port. You can remove the lint with a bent paperclip and the phone should resume charging normally. That said, it sounds like you're happy with the Xr, so fixing your SE may not be needed.

Or you could just stick the middle finger up at what Wall Street demands couldn't you?
They pretty much did when they (correctly) stopped reporting unit sales. I wish Apple would do more of that. Google is so secretive, it's hard to even analyze the company.

Apple's business is misunderstood by Wallstreet because they have focused on the wrong things for years. Looking at the numbers, Apple is an insane business but they are treated like an average hardware company.

Freaking Clorox trades at 25X earnings, yet Apple trades at 12X. It's Apple's responsibility to change that narrative, so taking away unit sales will be a long term step to shift investor attention.

Sorry Apple that's NOT going to happen.
I don't want a bigger phone. I may upgrade from a '7' to an '8' in a few months but that's it. I won't go larger. I simply don't need a Phablet sized device. The 7 and 8 fit nicely in the phone pocket of my Motorcycle Jacket. Anything larger and it won't go.
I can't be the only one who does not want Phablets?
You aren't the "only" one, but the market has largely spoken that they DO want larger screen phones. Otherwise, Apple would have a 4 inch phone. They have all the research and data to tell them what they should produce.

People want to compare to the apple of old, but remember, the apple of old always advertised the subsidized price with a carrier. Things have changed considerably since then and I honestly feel like this is a much smarter approach to marketing to go with the changes. As a business, why wouldn't you want to send the price of the new phone taking into account their trade in? I'm actually more disappointed they didn't do this with all the other phones in the previous years. People seem so critical of Apple lately. While some things are deserving, other things seem like a stretch (like this).

But... It's also:

* Missing the high-density LCD display of the iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPhone 8 Plus

* Missing the 3D Touch of the iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPhone 8 Plus

* Missing the telephoto lens of the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus

If you're coming from an iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 5S, or earlier, then the iPhone XR is an upgrade in EVERY way!

For any other device, you will be losing something in the "upgrade". This is called COMPROMISE.

No mention of wireless charging..unless is the Xs series only

The XR has wireless charging built in too... I have the XR and, on the whole, happy with it.

The smartphone market is maturing and most features found in higher end models are now starting to be found in mid range and even budget models... Apple need to realise they can’t keep charging ridiculous amounts and hope people upgrade!

That price is supposed to be the price of the XR to begin with now they want to take your older iPhone. Whatever this could a trick hoping Apple could get you into the XS but this is too late for most people Apple has left a bad taste to their mouth. This is more than just lowering the price besides they only lowered the price of XR but not the XS make even worse.

And for all you people that are just being snarky, welcome to business.

When Wallstreet demands $90B+ in sales in 90 days, you have to start pushing harder. This doesn't mean Apple is failing, the XR is a flop, or any other doom and gloom story.

This means Apple is trying to cram MORE sales into the same amount of time and that requires new tactics.

I am beginning to wonder how much Apple pays you? I don’t disagree with you on a lot of things but you seem way too emotionally invested.

Anyway as far as Apple emailing people and begging I don’t like it. It lacks class and in my opinion tarnishes their image.

On the other hand if they are willing to stop pretending to be a luxury company I could live with it.

Seems they are trying to find their identity.

Fixed it for you. With a more objective outlook.

Personally I haven't upgraded from my 7plus because I dislike faceID, I have enjoyed touchID and didn't really want to switch. At this point if I upgrade it will probably just be to an 8plus since it still has touchID
Just stay behind.

And that business is ads? Apple now data mines you to figure out you have an older iPhones and spams you with ads now.

Maybe if they gave fair value to the traded in iPhones. They only want to give $350 Canadian for my iPhone 8 256gb, that I paid $1100+ for just a little over a year ago.

That's a really crappy value no wonder people aren't trading phones in.

My work phone is a 6s. I got this email this morning in my work email.

Such a shame they omitted 3D Touch. Once you are accustomed to it, you can’t go without.

I would buy the Xr today if it had it. Oh well.
Yes you can. I did after few months of trying it out.
3D touch sucks... for me.

Because 90% of the posts here think an email marketing campaign points to this larger issue of failure. It gets nauseating to read snark after snark.

Even your analysis of Apple "begging" is nonsense. This is a standard email marketing campaign. Disney just sent me one this morning. Are they "begging" because they offered me a discount on a resort stay?

Hence, "welcome to business." It ain't easy.

Agree, except for the SE bit. You’re losing portability and TouchID.

I look forward to the call. I can ask him when Apple's going to show us what "can't innovate anymore my ass" meant. This year will mark 6 years since he said it an not an update in sight.

I would be willing to bet that Phil would sit there cool as ice, dad jeans on and offer you the opportunity to trade in your current Mac for 15% off one of the new (with year old processors) models.
