You mean:

(Mac guy): "Blah, blah, Windows has to release security patches necessary for safer using..."

And then Apple has to patch a major security flaw a month after SL comes out?

They're highly misleading ads.
The point of this series of ads seems to have to do with the fact that Apple produces computers that lead the industry in customer satisfaction. And if you have to move from XP anyway, why not go ahead and switch to that #1 computer platform? Winning ads.

Another commercial that preaches to the choir. They were funny at first, but it's gotten old.

I wonder when Apple will do a commercial about Snow Leopard's features ?

Because it's now flipped.

Vista was a disaster (with a capital D) and 7 is the OS that should have proceeded XP.

SL on the other hand is just "blah" and not much worth talking about. How many (Mac) users here have said there's nothing major worthy of making the the upgrade?

Now THAT SAID, I read a funny article yesterday about a guy who worked at PC World and gave Vista a glowing 1st review and now in hindsight, highly regrets praising it. Hopefully he'll think twice when hitting "publish" on his 7 review.

Microsoft needs to take off the kid gloves and punch back at what you REALLY pay for when you buy a Mac:

It's all about elitism. You PAY for the Apple brand name, like you do for a Sony product like a TV. Call it what it is-- the Apple Tax.

The reason we use Apple computers in my workplace has nothing to do with elitsm.

I'm getting a little tired of this ad campaign, but I have to say it's still pretty effective and these new ads are pretty good. The one recounting the history of "It's not going to have all the problems of [previous Windows OS]" is great, that's exactly what everyone always says whenever a new one comes out. Then we find out it's just the same repackaged crap.

I'd guess sometime between never and "not going to happen". I thought these commercials were lame but I'm also one of those crazy people that uses Windows 7 along side my Macs.

Although one new SL feature they could talk about is that you can format your drive by simply logging in. ;)

I beg to differ. Pushing the #1 in customer satisfaction note is a really good selling point to those who don't have (or are considering) getting a Mac. And believe me, I know a lot of people who are thinking about it.

I love Anne's line from "Teeter Tottering":
"Look, I can stick with what I know. But what I know is pain and frustration."

I think a lot of PC users can relate to that line right there. It's time to try something better, even if it takes a new computer to do it.

Really like these for a change but I wish Apple would come on stronger. I just don't think they punched it hard enough by claiming, "highest in customer satisfaction" or "if I have to move all my stuff anyway, I'm moving to a Mac." I really want them to talk about why SL is better than Win7 and why a company that makes the OS and the hardware has a better model that just a software company alone. OR, just acknowledge that Win7 is a nice step forward and now you can run Redmond's best even better on an Apple.

Please price out a comparable machine and then get back to us.

Wonderful. These ads work like a charm.

Keep 'em coming, Apple.

Apple is really the only one in the industry who knows how to attack effectively. And they're exploiting that talent for all it's worth. As they should.

The problem with these commercials--and I have not even seen them yet--is that they talk about Windows 7 coming out. I haven't seen one coherent ad from Microsoft stating this fact. Yesterday when I went to the Windows 7 web-site they had tweets on the page from people saying negative things about Windows 7 and the main featured quote on the page was a review saying Windows 7 was not horrible to use like other versions of windows, and the graphic looked like an ad for sim city. I see they finally updated that site today. The site was jumbled and confusing. Today I went to try to buy the student version of Windows 7 for my mac. The site sends you to win741.com run by a company called digital river. They let you download Windows 7 after entering your school e-mail address. The site--on the public day of release--still says you can pre-order Windows 7 and it's expected to be available October 21 (it said that today Oct 22). Microsoft is not even communicating the fact that this OS is available and they don't seem too interested in making it easy to buy. Not only that, before you buy you are asked whether you want Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit. There's a link you click if you don't know which one you want. It takes you to a page that talks about 32 bit vs 64 bit versions of Windows Vista! It amazes me that a company as huge as Microsoft can't sell its flagship product in an online store it runs that is semi-coherent.

My point is that Apple is giving a clearer message than Microsoft that Windows 7 exists and is now available.

My ad would be: I couldn't get Windows 7 even if I wanted to! So I'll pick a Mac!

Now I'll go watch the ads and judge them on their merits.

I let out a hearty groan when I see these ads now. Seriously find a new campaign already. (And apparently they have dropped talking about the greatness of OSX altogether?)

The average consumer doesn't care about it. Do you think Grand Central Dispatch and OpenCL are cool? I think they're awesome pieces of technology, but the average person will quickly lose attention as soon as the names are said.

It isn't that the average person is stupid, just that they really don't care about these little bits and pieces. What they care about is that their computer does what they want it to do, and that it does it quickly. That's it. Apple isn't attempting to write a thesis about why they're superior, they're playing on the fact that computers at present are still a bit inaccessible and problematic for many people. In truth Apple also has its share of problems, but they make up less of the market and thus can afford to poke fun like this, without trying to make any technical arguments.

It seems to be working for them. These ads bring a smile to my face and elicit laughter out of my fiancee (who is not a techie). If you don't like them at all, you're likely either taking things too seriously or you're really far out of Apple's target audience for the ads.

ill love to see how this will go with the endgadet people :D

As I said earlier. I'm a apple user 99% of the time

that said on the news they showed the new msft store, packed, over 700 people but these ads aren't going to convince the millions of IT firms upgrading and windows 7 is getting great reviews.

Ymmv

Apple's commercial strategy is simply to get a potential customer to enter an Apple store. After a customer enters a store, Apple will actually convince the customer of the benefits of a Mac.

From my experience, a lot of Windows users do enter Apple stores purely because of seeing the ads. So the model does seem to be working.

Wow, these are so accurate. Because as we all know, nobody ever gets frustrated with Mac OS and the Windows 7 upgrade forces you to completely start over with computing, not to mention that it's absolutely required if you want to keep using a Windows-based computer. Great work done here, methinks.
