Why bifurcate the MacBook Pro line for the first time (M1 followed by M1 Pro/Max a year later doesn't count as it was a new era)? Just because the M5 is ready and the M5 Pro/Max are not? This will create an Osborne Effect among those in the market for a Pro/Max chip. However, those who mostly need single core performance will have an easier decision and save money assuming the M5 delivers significant single core gains. My big question — will the M5 MacBook Pro get the C1X modem? This would generate a lot of publicity and sales.

My wife wants a new iPad so I might get a new iPad Pro M5, but maybe I just get her another iPad Air and keep my expensive iPad Pro.

Nothing else excites me. My MacBook Pro M1 is still doing the job well, so why waste money I'm not sure I'm going to have in six months.

People still complain about this? It’s irrelevant.

Apple extended the screen at the top so the menu/status icons/notch are in the extended portion and the screen below is the same size as previous MacBooks. So you actually gain a small amount of screen real estate.
I would agree with the notch had they put Face ID in it.
Otherwise I see it a bit pointless and I rather they put in a rectangular screen so the panel is cheaper. I ended up choosing a non-notched resolution on my MBP for the aesthetics (I use light mode during the day so the notch was very visible) and more space for menu bar icons.

With notch, no buy 😑
I share your hatred of the notch, but Apple does offer a resolution option in Display settings that is literally 'display minus the notch-bar area,' returning it to 'standard' behavior (a small 'forehead' area above the now-notchless Menubar). That's what I use and everything is fine (more room for MenuBar items as well).

Hoping for a Mac Studio with M5 Ultra in 2026, unless Apple sticks Ultra users with another obsolete chip.

35% improve on the GPU = 35% faster CGI workflows and 70% faster AI workflows
I am sticking with my fp8 prediction for 2-3x faster for AI considering as I also stumbled over this. just waiting for the right time, sure the M5…
That Apple dev comment is barely 1 month old he knows what is coming 😆
