Good for Apple. Epic is full of ****. Let me put it this way... I own a barbershop which sells pomade. The customer buys the pomade from me for $18, but the distributor gets 50% of that, so I keep $9. That's pretty standard in retail. I think Apple taking 30% to distribute a product to millions of people is more than fair. People are giving Apple **** because they are a huge, profitable company. They got that way by creating great products and selling stuff that people want. Their developer agreement is pretty clear. If Epic doesn't play by the rules, which they entered into willingly, then Apple has ever right... and SHOULD tell them to take a hike. Epic screwed the pooch on this one.
lol and so is Apple. I can’t wait until the courts force some changes to the policies currently on iOS.

The problem with Epic, is they understood the rules and regulations, but they chose to ignore them. What’s worse, is they easily could’ve admitted their fault And/or tried to rectify the issue, but they didn’t, and the fact that they’ve been removed permanently, is an example that Apple isn’t playing around. “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.”

EPIC is a private company with investors. Apple is a publicly traded company with shareholders.

Investors..shareholders, it does not matter, who ever shouts the loudest at losing revenue will be the one that backs down first.

Stores always take a cut. You sell Fortnite at Walmart, they take a cut. You sell in-app purchases in the App Store, then Apple is totally reasonable to want a cut. If you think you can thrive without the marketplace/middle-man, then by all means sell direct to consumers...but don’t try to have your cake and eat it too, using someone else’s marketplace but bypassing them in sales.

You do realize that is exactly what Epic was trying to do? Fortnite is the app. Apple controls the distribution of it. In app purchases have NOTHING to do with Apple. Epic wants to charge for those, since Apple DOES NOTHING to get the money for those! How is that so hard to understand?

Since you're familiar with Walmart, does Walmart get a piece of every streaming service you purchase for the TV you bought from Walmart? Does HBO, Netflix, Hulu, etc., give Walmart 30% of what you pay streaming services because you got your TV from Walmart? Of course not, so why does Apple feel they should deserve such huge amounts of money for something they have no hand in (or at least they wouldn't if Epic could process their own payments).

I'm so tired of analogies that aren't even proper! Once the app has been downloaded to your device, Apple's job is done (or it should be, were it not for the fact that Apple insists on processing the payment for items in the app Apple doesn't own or control). They shouldn't get a dime for IAP's. Maybe there shouldn't be free apps if there are IAP?

And it's sad for the industry to sort of tacitely colluding on that 30% magic number, the highest they could find without developers outright revolting... until now. And think what you want of Epic, but their Epic Game Store was the first to disrupt that 30% magic number, down to 12% and with advantageous terms for games using the Unreal Engine. That was only possible because the PC is not a walled garden.
Whilst this makes Epic look like the good guy here let’s not forget they have purchased exclusivity rights on a very popular years old at this point game (Rocket League) stopping updates on Steam which has had the effect of locking out Mac/Linux players as they won’t be getting any updates in future. Yes Windows Steam users can move to Epic but many won’t want too. Also Valve (Steams owners) we’re trying to break the Windows monopoly on PC gaming by making compatibility layers for Linux and now Epic have come along with their exclusivity deals and have effectively killed the Linux gaming market as they only support windows with their App Store.

Also Epic’s store doesn’t support half the features that Steam does which is why a lot of PC gamers are annoyed at Epic’s tactics.

Let’s face it if Epic get their way which is their own App Store on iOS the user experience for iOS users will be wrecked as Epic will likely buy out developers for exclusives and you’ll eventually end up with a situation like on the PC where you need an Apple App Store, an Epic Store, a Ubisoft store, an EA store, a Facebook store etc etc.
Not to mention the security risks all these store will cause as let’s face it they won’t check the apps they sell half as well as Apple does.

Makes me laugh to see Apple say they had no choice.
Ummmm, yes Apple would had every choice.
EPIC makes some choices and YOU make some choices in response.
Apple don't make out some robot AI did this and you could not control it. YOU chose to remove Epic.
Now, you may say your own rules which you made up and you chose to follow meant you decided to take this action.
But please stop with the lies, and making remarks like you had no choice.

That's like me saying I give you $5 if you cut the grass on my front and back lawn, but you only did the front, so I had no choice but to not pay you.
I COULD have chosen to pay you but I decided I would not.

What all of you pro-Apple people aren’t getting is that this has a direct effect on IOS/IpadOS gaming period. Unreal engine is the only graphics engine approaching anything close to console quality. This cuts off all games based on that engine at the knees. No more updates as the developer of said engine has been booted.

Now all we have is the lame duck Arcade that has been hugely dissapointing.

Their Unreal developer account has not been suspended!

It’s not ended, yet.

EPIC will win, and Apple will have to pay damages later.
Ohh boy this will be expensive for Apple... 🤣
damages for EPIC
damages for antitrust in EU
damages for antitrust in US
plus a few other damages

you really think the EU and US is interested in punishing a company that brings them billions of revenue to their prospective markets?

Since Epic decided to go thermonuclear, this paves the way for other devs to poach their customers.

It isn’t a monopoly. Which is easily understood by the fact you can buy Fortnite on PS4, Android, Xbox, Nintendo, PC, Mac etc.

People are acting like an iOS device is something it’s not. An iPhone is a product made by Apple that can run whatever it wants. It’s up to the end user if they wanted to buy it.

People aren’t entitled to run whatever they want on an iPhone just like you can’t run whatever you want on a Playstaion.

If the user doesn’t like what Apple is offering they have plenty of choice for other ways to play this game.

Hardware creators of game and media devices have always tried to control what software can be played on their systems. I’m honestly struggling to understand how many people can’tgrasp this
You really must love prison. lol, it’s fine to like Apple but come on, iOS policies are terrible.

I added to that post Tencent has got a large stake in EPIC from 2012, but PUBG game that is now displayed is also got Tencent mentioned. EPIC doesn't really care they are in it for the long game, not short term hits or losses.

Trust me, Apple will have to back down in the long term.
They will win small battles along the way, but they WILL lose the war.
Do you think Apple will be allowed to grow and grow and grow forever and still act as they do today? No.
It may take months, it may take a year, it may take many years, but Apple will either have to decide to change it's current ways or it will be forced to by laws imposed upon it.
This will happen. The only questions are change by how much and when.

This I can guarantee you, and every sensible person must know this will be the outcome.

Billions with their tax avoidance? 🤣 That was a good one...

Sweeney is in an ultimately untouchable mode as epic ceo whatever the outcome and while he may never feel the full extent of the backlash for his actions epic are already experiencing borderline irreparable damage to their credibility and business models. Conjsidering he could have changed all this before today's ultimatum date but chose not to do so I have no words.

Tim believes he is xerxes and if so apple are the spear of leonidas that will show all that every self professed god king can be made to feel true humility in the face of their one true adversary. It would be interesting to know how tencent view all of this behind the scenes.

Al you need now it a ton of other companies growing some balls and following EPIC's example, and then watch Apple go into total panic mode and change their policy almost overnight.
That won't happen of course, but it could.
Simply change your app, and get ready for 1 month let's say of lost revenue.
No way on earth Apple would maintain it's position for a whole month if all the companies did this.
