Am I the only one who still owns this? :p

Am I the only one who doesn't see the necessity? I think there are enough third party options already. That's what I found so ridiculous about the Surface ad - with an iPad I have a lot more keyboards to choose from.

I hope the other topics covered by the keynote are not so unspectacular that this is what they hinted at in their invitations...

Eh? I think people should stop being so utterly blinded and following a cult actually. Being a fan does not mean automatically accuse everyone else of copying, and that the company you like has invented everything no matter what has gone before.
Your entire post is a straw man. Unless you can actually read minds. If so, please explain. Hate, lies, etc. Have you got ANYthing else to say?

Never owned that one, but always thought it was a pretty awesome stand. It also doubles as a charger, correct?

Yes, it had a 30-pin dock at the back, as well as a line-in audio
port.

TRAVESTY. apple literallyp went back in time and copied microsoft!

but i wouldn't be surprised if they pushed for a touchcover since they're pushing so hard for hte iworks office suite

I remember when Steve Jobs was up on stage and he said 'for people who don't want to use the virtual keyboard, we have an alternative' and people cheered! :D

The huge market for keyboard cases and covers is a big sign for Apple to do an integrated solution. I think it's going to happen tomorrow.

Lol, where are all the "COPYERZZZZZZ" post?

Apple is clearly copying The Surface, but I'm sure the fanboyz will find a way to justify it.

But we all know when another phone with a finger scanner comes out everyone's going to be like "THESE PPL ALWAYS COPY APPLE!?!"

Do your maths before you post nonsense.

i actually find microsoft's solution to suck a lot. i'd much prefer the current crop of Google tablet solutions where it's a thicker keyboard (may include another battery)

of course, the one great thing ipad has over msft is touch-optimized work suites.

Here's the problem with third party accessories: almost all of them are garbage except for simple cases. For example the third party gaming controllers that will start being released are mostly going to be complete garbage. If Apple made one it would be beautiful, and effective, and developers would actually be on board and maybe even higher profile developers would start putting actual good games on the App Store. The way I see it, they're just third party and I doubt it will entice the kind of development and games I'm hoping for.

Isn't the lightning connector in the wrong place for this to work?

Not sure Bluetooth is the way to go.

Bluetooth Low Energy could potentially give a keyboard months of battery life.

I'd say there is even an extremely small chance that they could implement a wireless induction charge while connected to the iPad. I'd think we would have heard about this if it were happening right now though.

And for this reason I am skeptical that these will be released now. It pretty much has to be bluetooth LE, they aren't going to use the device's lightning port for connectivity or charge, and they are highly unlikely to require separate charging of the keyboard. As a result, if this is real, I think this will come out sometime in the future.

Why are you still typing typos? And nope still fact and not strawman. All true what I say, don't like it? Not my problem but yours :D

Typos? I think not.

Please, tell the rest of us what else you read in my mind. Since I posted zero of the "facts" you claim I have.

"But if Apple did this I'd bet it would be better than Microsoft's implementation."

So typical - pooh-poohed when Microsoft puts it out BUT deemed brilliant when Apple takes it market.

The fanboyz rhetoric is tiresome, ain't it.

No more tiresome than the haterz rhetoric. If you are so determined that Apple will copy Microsoft, fine, but don't tell anyone else how to feel about it. If you don't like people who like Apple products then why are you here?

Just pathetic.

Ding! I suspect this is the right solution. If I want a keyboard, I want a sturdy one with proper key travel, etc. I haven't seen one that folds or any kind of cover that fits the bill. Fix the current Apple BT keyboard to triple or quadruple the battery life, and make it fit into your backpack a little easier, and I'd so much more rather have that than a smart cover with keyboard inside. I need a keyboard less than 5% of the time, why would I want to have to hold one all the time?

But the "z" is not supposed to be the same as an "s". The "z" is a hard sound, wile the "s" is much softer, try saying the words out loud to hear the difference.

* Fanboys
* Fanboyz

They are supposed to sound different, just like when you say words you pronounce them differently to add nuance and secondary meaning.
I know it seems like language is racing away at the moment, and perhaps you feel like you are struggling to keep up, but this is just because the Internet has made it so easy for people to communicate, that we are writing so much more than we were 10 or 20 years ago.

Sure, people used to send letters to each other, but consider how many words you type per day, and compare that to the old days when you had to drag an ink-filled tube across some flattened tree-pulp!

What happens when the human race writes more? The languages evolve faster, and this is seen most readily in newly formed abbreviations and added layers of nuance.

The grammar is also evolving, but the changes are often harder to spot and commonly mistaken for errors.
There is a simple test you can perform to spot this, and stop yourself appearing like an old fuddy-duddy, just ask yourself 'do I understand what the author meant', if you do then great, if not then it may well be an error after all.

I disagree. This is a cop-out. Making up your own spelling and grammar just makes you look ignorant.

it doesn't "double" for anything, it's a keyboard dock, so it has a 30-pin connector which allows you to plug in for data/sync/charge. Apple only made it for the 1st gen iPad, they changed the form factor w/ipad 2 and never released another dock for any iPad, mainly because people barely bought the first dock, didn't sell well, and many third party options became available.

what the ef are you talking about? this was back with the 1st gen. iPad in 2010, how could apple copy microsoft when microsoft didn't even have a tablet?

Microsoft's keyboard and kickstand with surface is a marketing tactic to sell it, isn't received well, as it's not a great keyboard. But, this is not what sells tablets, they can't figure out that a tablet is not a replacement for the laptop computer, but fits in it's own category, needs to work well as a touch-screen device you can hold in your hand, not something to be propped up with a keyboard...how many iPad owners use it propped up with a keyboard most of the time?

Apple has new covers for the new iPads, I'm sure, but, maybe just bright colors. If anything else is included, maybe a notification center, maybe it will have a see-through panel to see notifications, or maybe spare battery. (back to page 1: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18179219/)

Makes sense if this was an OSX tablet. But an iOS? Meh. Not much productivity to justify an external keyboard.

So, looking up 'strawman fallacy' on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man , it appears to me that you were incorrect when you used that term to describe the original comment.

Specifically, to be an example of the strawman fallacy, the author would need to have subverted an earlier proposition, and put forward his own similar proposition ( intending you to believe it the same as the original ) and then proved or refuted some statement about that proposition.

Check out that article, and I think you'll agree that there more to 'attacking the straw man' than just the use of stereotypes and exaggeration ( which is how I'd describe the original comment ).

I think you could have been more understanding, it is clear to me that the original author was expressing his opinion in a fun and enthusiastic manner, he didn't appear to be accusing any one single person of having those traits he despises, but merely annoyed at a attitude that he sees expressed in those mannerisms he describes.

MS was pooh-poohed because theirs was an obvious copy of the smart cover. it looked just like it... and worse, their device sucked and hasnt been selling very well. Apple's device doesnt suck and sells very well -- so the anticipation for it working better are rightly earned.

see how that works?

er, you do realize the Surface's cover as a near clone of apple's smart cover, right? you cant copy yourself, duh.
