Possibly correct. In the past couple years, Apple and Microsoft had quietly sat down and cross-licensed a crapload of things.

THIS is the primary reason why Apple has not gone PATENT-NUCLEAR against Microsoft. Because MS was smart enough to have licensed some things from Apple in the first place, therefore shielding Microsoft from further patent suits by Apple. This is the Apple-Microsoft Frenemy relationship at its best. They despise each other, and yet sometimes they need each other to get a leg up against common rivals. The Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact of the tech era.

I was thinking of that EXACT Pact when thinking of this partnership, thanks for citing it.

Lol, where are all the "COPYERZZZZZZ" post?

Apple is clearly copying The Surface, but I'm sure the fanboyz will find a way to justify it.

But we all know when another phone with a finger scanner comes out everyone's going to be like "THESE PPL ALWAYS COPY APPLE!?!"

Hi Paul Thurrott, nice to you see you here. Looking forward to your constructive and unbiased posts.

So, you still think it's worse to like Apple than to hate other people. K.

Eh? I think people should stop being so utterly blinded and following a cult actually. Being a fan does not mean automatically accuse everyone else of copying, and that the company you like has invented everything no matter what has gone before.

So 3 years without a completely new product means gloom and doom for apple? You clearly don't remember 1985-1997

I do! But do you remember who rode in to save them? Not gonna happen this time. Only innovator on their exec team now is Ive. Hope he can swing it alone.

----------

I really don't think that Apple was ever about that.

What Apple is good at is looking at an existing product and making it more accessible to the average user.

I wouldn't disagree, but still, they are doing more large/small, color variation and now keyboards, then redefining categories.

There was technically nothing revolutionary between 2001 and 2007, and 2007-2010 either., besides the macbook air. With the iWatch and the television set in the pipeline, apple has the opportunity to reinvent two industries in the next couple years. Tim Cook has only been CEO for 2 years, so I think it's a little unfair to judge him at this point.

Whatever - I just want the coolest solution, I don't care if it says Apple or Samsung or Microsoft.

This could be cool.

After buying the coolest solution from everyone, I've found that aside from something being cool it should also work as intended and be well supported. This is why some people care who makes what.

Apple has always played the follower. In fact, Apple was at its best when it simply let others innovate and then it improved and perfect others' innovations.

You need to look up the definition of innovation.

Also, it is absolutely hilarious that someone posted a bunch of Smart Cover related patents from Apple dating back to 2011 that clearly depict a keyboard built in among other things, and those samsung or whatever fanboys are saying that Apple would be copying Microsoft. You all have this much idea of what you are talking about: 0. Those patents date before Microsoft released the surface.

Remember just because someone releases something first doesn't mean they thought of it first and thus anyone who releases something after it is copying. Think the smart watch here, not that samsung's galaxy gear was anywhere near the first released smart watch, but it certainly wasn't the first thought of either. Apple is working on theirs and they will release it when they feel it is ready, and it will blow that garbage galaxy gear out of the universe.

IMO, this demonstrates Apple's lack of ideas now. Bigger/faster iPhones, smaller iPads, different colors, and now keyboards.

No more "Wow! I never even thought of that before" ideas, which is kind of sad.

Yes, if Apple could only innovate half of the size of Schiller's posterior.

And likewise those same people that appear to think ONLY Apple is capable of making a keyboard/ cover they want or is cool

Besides the fact that they aren't "the same people" you were blabbering stuff about "apple invented covers!!1", not about "a cover someone finds cool", nice try.

Strawman in your eye's, fact in mine.

Fact? Are you drunk? Where exactly has someone said that Apple "invited the smart cover"? One link please, thanks.

So you're saying the Surface isn't a copy of the iPad?

There's nothing to justify. A keyboard on a cover isn't a new idea from Microsoft either: http://www.zagg.com/accessories/zaggkeys-ipad-profolio-keyboard-case/8084

And honestly, I don't care who came up with what first. I just care about getting the best product possible for my needs - hardware + software.

I've seen this concept before. Can't remember where...

Nope I'm quite sober thanks. And Apple hasn't invited anything? What are you on about? Mad person.
You must be angry typing with those typos hahahaha.

it's obvious to me that microsoft keyboard was just copying zagg, truly the first tablet keyboard manufacturer on the market

Because I need a regular fix of fanboyz silliness.

You're the fanboy coming in to see what different fanboys are saying about a rival company. That's just sad lol. People on here buy Apple products and thus are interested in the news. You buy different company's products and have nothing better to do then to get on a website for a company you hate hahah.

P.S. Look at the patents dating back to 2011 from Apple about this. They didn't and wouldn't be copying if they released something like this. You lose this time fanboy :)
