An M3 iMac defined! 🖥️ 👀

View attachment 2242912

If Apple keeps the same iMac chassis there is no way to physically fi t a Pro or Max variant in there. The RAM packages are more numerous and take more space. TSMC N3 is going to do nothing to make them smaller. The basic fundamental package size it too big to be 'stuffed' into the 'chin' of the iMac 24".

The iMac is going to 'beat up' the Mac Studio ..... probably not going to happen.

The rumors have outlined a 'plain' M3 in a iMac showing up in testing logs. That is it.

Yeah but crappier, basic drivers in comparison to Mac or Windows.

But yeah Linux is amazing.
Having a bad day? The whole internet with his server farms works with linux. Not apple, not windows. My linux notebook is working fine for years now with no problems at all. Same as apple. Windows is a crap. I build PC's and installed at least 1000 times windows on PC's. Linux makes no trouble at all, if you know what you are doing.

Linux on servers are basically running on virtualised instances nowadays. You will not find too may driver issues.

On consumer desktop, I don't think you will find it as smooth sailing tho. Linux server environments tend to be simple and boring in comparison IMHO.

Yeah because PC to Mac switchers aren't a thing. Oh wait...
They are a marginal thing and there hasn’t been a significant change in Mac global market share since the M1 was released, so there is no indication M3 will change what M1 and M2 (and their pro/max/ultra versions) couldn’t.

I love that with each generation the previous Max leaps further towards the current vanilla chip, because Apple keep stuffing more cores into each generation. Though tbh even if a previous Max was no faster than a current vanilla chip, I think psychologically knowing I have a "Max" model would still please me.

💻 M3 Macbook Pro 13" defined.

We might see a 50% increase every generation (that already seems optimistic), and a generation every 15 months.

M1 Ultra, early ‘22: up to 128 GiB
M2 Ultra, mid ‘23: 192
M3 Ultra, late ‘24: 288
M4 Ultra, early ‘26: 432
M5 Ultra, mid ‘27: 648
M6 Ultra, late ‘28: 972

I think they just really like the simplicity and low latency of unified memory.
Shrinking the die won’t be so easy. In order to quadruple the RAM you need to get 1nm on the same die

For some odd reason Windows trackpads still suck after all these years. Maybe they're not running at the correct interrupt level or something, but they've never been as good as even the PB100.

The rate at which people switch from pc to apple has steadily declined. With pc manufactures making compelling alternatives at much more affordable pricing and replaceability. All without pricy warranties. Apple makes top tier products. But they are far from the only one doing that.

I’m not so sure about that assertion:

As for someone that doesn’t do graphic intense stuff I’d sure like a 40 core cpu and 16 core gpu instead 😁

I think there's plenty of CPU cores already. The only thing I can think of that could benefit from more CPU cores is video compression. GPU benefits more from the additional cores than the CPU. 12 CPU cores is probably already more than most people will need, but more GPU cores will help anyone working with 3D graphics - like when playing computer games.

Still holding out on switchting to Mac, my vast Steam library does not play well and with MAC and as long Apple treats this leisure I do enjoy as an afterthought, I'm not investing.

However I do see an uptick, with their foray and update in METAL and their selected partnerships, but those are just some few games and very selective. i.e. while Capcom brought REVIII to the MAC, the REm4ke did not make the cut, nor other entries.

So... I am at a wait and see approach.

Also Desktop PCs (or powerful) Laptops can be gained for a fraction of the Mac.

For servers, but for workstations no way Linux is better than Windows or Mac.

For servers makes sense because you don't install peripherals, like gaming mice, gaming keyboards, sound cards, but as soon as you need premium workstation software and hardware, good luck with Linux.
