Wow, when did Apple become so far behind the curve that they tried to compete literally years *behind* what even Samsung is doing?

Jesus...next they'll release a VCR and then a punch card reader

Bring Steve back from the dead!!!

First of all: As conservative as Apple is do you really think that will jump from 4" to 6" in one move. I doubt it.

Secondly: Out of general curiosity, how many of you would want a 6" phone? That just seems way tooooooo big to me, but I respect other peoples' opinions.

Lots of people myself included haven't even considered an iPhone because it's too small. My fingers aren't small enough.

So what phone were you using before Android phones started becoming mini tablets?

Bigger screen iPhone(4.5" ideally) would be okay if Apple can do something about the top and bottom bezels. They look ugly.

Samsung has been able to increase their screen sizes with each iteration while minimizing the bezels around the screen. That's why their phones look good. Kudos to Samsung for that. And that ONLY.

Big Is Easy

I think Steve Jobs would throw this against the wall like the pizza. Apple may now be moving to following the herd rather than creating a new herd. It's neither elegant nor a game changer. meh.

6-inch screen allows 3x screen target vs. the original iPhone, or 1707x960 (326 PPI).

While I personally find 6" to be too large (the screen's width would be nearly identical to iPhone 5 screen's length, or 5" by 3.3" vs. 3.5" by 2"), there are no shortage of folks that want "one mobile device to rule them all" phablet.

Someone had to say some Steve Jobs crap, congratulations.

A bigger iPhone IS necessary. They can keep the 4" one as a 'Mini' so people have a choice. Yes choice(!), a luxury with apple products.

all those who hate phablets(especially note)
all those who think the apple never copies samsung
all those who think the 4inch screen size is the sweet spot

are now writing good things for apple in this thread.

An iPhone at least the size of my Note 2, and I'll consider it.

Swipe typing is also a must.

I think it would be a mistake if the larger-screen iPhones are the only high-end devices (the way Samsung treats their lineup).

Android manufacturers don't "treat their lineup" like this, they have no other choice. Adroid is just way to power-hungry and unefficient to build a small device with high-end specs and acceptable battery life.

Well, its about time! Get with the program, Apple! People are considering 4" phones has "minis" now!

I want to work for WSJ! "In tomorrow's news, we heard from a little bird that Apple could be working on...."

4.8" + is too big.

4" is just a tad too small.

Split the difference and go 4.4" and keep the vertical height.

Get over it... Why in the world would someone want a phone that is the size of a tablet... So dumb...!

I hope they move past the testing phase with a bigger screen. I'm 6' 2" with larger than average hands so an iPhone's screen is small for me. My eyesight isn't that great either so a larger screen = all the better for me. A new larger iPhone will keep me from migrating over to Android.

If they decide to bump the resolution to 720p, keeping the pixel density similar to the current iPhone would require a size of about 4.5". 4.8" would be about 20ppi lower. At 1080p, they'd need a 6.7" phone.

Given those two calculations, either Apple:
1) Is not planning to switch to a standard HD resolution
2) Does not care about keeping the PPI similar (hence the size of elements on the screen will probably change)

Poor eye sight.
Large hands.
More screen real estate.
Expanded size for better battery and / or additional hardware.
Thinner profile.

Add a pico projector, digitizer, dual cameras for some sort of movement tracking feature..
