Well, personally, there's that whole having to hide indoors for nine months so far avoid to a deadly pandemic that's raging out of control and has killed 365,000 Americans alone due to his complete and utter failure to do a single thing about it, up to and including intentionally allowing it to spread under the belief that it would kill more people who politically oppose him than support him. You see no, there is no double-standard here. First, there is no equivocation between fighting for Black people not to be killed by police and attempting to disrupt the government for a President that has lied to them for his own political gain. Now don‘t get me wrong, I understand these individuals have been brainwashed and BELIEVE what they have been told - but there is no righteous cause in their actions.

Second, while people may have been applauding their behaviors (as people are applauding this behavior), leaders across the board, including the President-Elect, comdened the violence and asked for peaceful protest. To expect every individual to condemn is not realistic and you know that.

Third, intervention stopped when the police showed that they were incapable of allowing peaceful protests. Leaders across the county were placed in a horrible position. To remove those elements that were causing destruction and harm while allowing the peaceful protesting to occur. They failed. Utterly. Let’s learn from that. There will always be individuals that cause destruction if we intend to continue to allow peaceful assembly as our Constitution guarantees - we must ensure that law enforcement is trained in effective response even if that protest is against their interests (such as the protests over the summer).

Lastly, there is a real double standard that became obvious on Wednesday.

While I appreciate the fact that you had a thoughtful response without blatant hatred, you’re opening another can of worms entirely. When that rioting started, EVERYONE was in agreement that the officer was in the wrong. That rioting was NOT necessary.

Brainwashed? Nah. Despite the media’s efforts to keep it under wraps, there were definitely inconsistencies with this election that warranted investigating. We have a right to fair elections. I don’t agree with what was done, just like I don’t agree with what was done all summer, but I understand their frustrations.

And you are saying within your post to expect every person to condemn is not realistic, yet criticizing folks for that very same thing.

I think sometimes people don’t even realize how they overlook wrongs as long as they’re in agreement or can empathize with the wrongdoers. You’re seeing the double standard from Wednesday. I’ve been seeing it for years.

If reasoned debate (without insults and logical fallacy) amongst people who care about our Republic can't happen in this forum, how can each of you expect, if not demand such from those whom you have put into leadership at each level of our government? What happened at the Capital building, as to the actions of some of the protestors that broke the law in numerous ways, was wrong. Those guilty of such should be held accountable.

Free speech has been taken away from most social media platforms already, in case you’ve been missing it. Private companies like Apple and Google don't have to abide by the free speech guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution guarantees only that the government shall not restrict free speech. Even then not all speech is protected -- speech inciting violence, threats, and insurrection can be prosecuted. Facebook, Google, Twitter, Apple, etc. are not obligated in any way to provide a free speech platform or to abide by the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution. The 1st Amendment only prevents the government from making a law to abridge freedom of speech. So if tech companies want to regulate what speech is allowed on their platform (fair or not), that's their business and ironically, if the government told them otherwise, that might well be a violation fo the 1st Amendment.
