I would have thought that Apple would have just bought a sleep app a while ago and re-branded it. They have a lot of catching up to do with Sleepwatch and Pillow.

My Fitbit I got for Christmas already has a sleep tracking feature I was a LOT CHEAPER and works fantastic.

My S4 lasts 2 full days, but sleep tracking would take a toll on it. Maybe they could add a special mode for sleep to turn off unnecessary tasks running on the watch.
Yeah it would make sense like that. but I find the battery life greatly varies per person.

I don't wear a watch when I sleep. But if a person is having sleep issues he/she could wear the watch in bed to monitor sleep.

Not to mentioned the beacon of light blasted through the room every time you roll over or move your arm.
That would be ignorance. Do you not turn on theater mode in a movie theater and instead not wear your watch so it doesn't turn into a "beacon of light?" Why wouldn't you do likewise when going to sleep?

I have no plans of replacing my expensive handmade mechanical watch with a smart watch, but I am interested in a quality sleep monitoring wearable. If the next Apple Watch came with a baked in sleep monitoring feature I would certainaly consider it as something I could wear at night and maybe weekends. When Apple implement something its usually implemented very well.

I'm not interested in wearing a watch to bed. I sleep in me undies and that's it. I don't even like sleeping with socks on.

My under-$30 fitness tracker has this sleep function. I can tell if I have deep sleep or light sleep and when and how much. Also, it tells me when I was awake - perhaps due to dogs barking. It would be nice to have the capability to send the info to an app on my computer so I could keep a record over time. Battery life is a week or longer.

I bet your sleep would be horrible when you try to place your head on the watch.. my watch stays on the desk at nights, not under my head.

Really what is the point?
I really would not want to wear my watch while I slept any way.
And unless they are planning on either improving the battery life or shortening the charge time considerably.
The watch would be dead by mid morning.

That's not true. I wear my watch all the time, and I just charge in the 20-30 minutes I do my morning routine. It's enough to keep it going all day and night.

The company has been using the sleep-tracking feature for several months with testers at secret sites around its Cupertino, California, headquarters

Where can I sign up for this job? :p

For most people, you can charge it up while you are showering, etc., and your set to go with a full charge the whole day and more.

"This is our most incredible Apple Watch yet. The Apple Watch 6 not only tells time but it can also track your sleep. And it's launching at just $1499. An amazing value!"

Come on. You've got to have better. Dig deep and let that Apple hate inspire you.

I have the Series 2 and my wife has the Series 3. I was hoping that the 2019 Apple Watch would have sleep tracking. At the moment both our Series 2 and Series 3 last almost two full days. If I exercise for more than 2 hours that day running or swimming, that cuts down, but once I get into the shower the watch is nearly fully charged after 15 minutes so I don't understand what the issue is with battery life. I sleep with my Apple watch on every night and ave no issues.

There is a design limitation here. When are you going to charge it? You would need IMO a decently ranged wireless charging solution while you slept, or while you worked at your desk. Because otherwise you are going to get missing data and the charging pattern is going to be interrupted.

Right now the charging pattern is easy, when you go to bed you charge your watch and your phone. Same time, simple. But for the 10 minutes you have a shower? Randomly during the day?

Its inelegant.

Do you have an Apple watch? In real world use, your watch isn't usually going to be at zero when you wake up. So, in the time that people actually take to get ready to leave their house (not ten minutes), most Apple watches are going to be pretty much fully charged enough to get through another day in normal use.

I wear my original apple watch overnight for sleep tracking. In do not disrurb mode, it does not disturb.

I got the series 4, but since my old watch is worth $25 in trade in, i kept it. So now I charge one while wearing the other.

I wear it to track sleep. Its interesting but not like you can really do much about your deep sleep. Can you?
[doublepost=1551203259][/doublepost]People might have clouded views of watch battery life because series 0 was so power hungry. I have a 4 and slerping with it on with sleep tracking on uses almost no battery.

I still prefer to let it charge and use the old watch overnight. Which does drain 30-40% overnight tracking sleep.
