I just use the iPhone app then Airplay to the Apple TV. A dedicated app just makes this process easier.
Plus, its already worth it you buy allot of stuff off Amazon. The video is just icing on the cake for me.
Funny you guys used the same expression. With as much as I buy from Amazon, prime is totally worth it to me, even without the app. This will be icing on the cake for me.
However, Walmart is stepping up it's game with free shipping and no prime membership.
For sure that will happen, but the only thing I'm worried about is how long I'll have to wait for it. Hopefully not too long now it's out of 'hobby' territory.
Estimates pin about 15%-20% of U.S. homes to have 4k sets right now. Is that mainstream?
I really don't see the point in streaming 4K yet. The HD 1080p streams we have currently still aren't as good as 1080p coming off a blue ray disc. We need to achieve parity there before 4K streaming matters. The amount of content you can access in 4k is minimal... and frankly its not like the quality is going from SD to HD was... we are getting to the point where the human eye can hardly register the difference.
this is a win for Amazon not for Apple. Amazon Prime video is on pretty much all platforms and device. Its amazon's ads and videos that will be playing.
Amazon Prime Video is one of the only major streaming video services that is currently absent from the Apple TV
What are the estimates of % of people buying new TV sets? I would guess more than 80% would buy a 4K set. That's what everybody looks at.Estimates pin about 15%-20% of U.S. homes to have 4k sets right now. Is that mainstream?

Not to mention the dearth of actual 4K content. Even the Super Bowl wasn't available anywhere in 4K. It nice to demand the release of a 4K Apple TV and all, but there needs to be a lot more actual content first.
I expect Apple to LEAD the market, not respond to it. It's embarrassing that they didn't include it on the Apple TV 4. There was no compelling reason not to. Lead the way and let the content follow.Estimates pin about 15%-20% of U.S. homes to have 4k sets right now. Is that mainstream?

I used to have Prime and I used to think with how much I buy it was totally worth it. Until I realized that 99% of the things I ordered I didn't need within 2 days, that I could easily wait a week or more for most things, and that I could let items sit in my cart until I have enough to get over the free shipping threshold.
For the 2 or so times per year I need fast shipping, I'll pay for fast shipping. The rest of the time, 7-10 days or whatever Amazon's free service gets you is sufficient.
Also, I know Amazon hates this, but drop-shippers on ebay make it just as well. Many popular items on Amazon can be bought on ebay for like $0.50 more than on Amazon, with free 2-day shipping. How? Someone with a Prime account just lists it on ebay, and then when you buy it from them, they immediately buy it on Amazon and set your address as the shipping address. I've purchased several items this way, purchased from a seller on ebay, but arriving in an Amazon box with an Amazon gift receipt.
It's weird that they had it on iOS but not ATV. I used to stream from an iPad or MacBook over AirPlay, which worked perfectly well.I completely agree, Amazon has an iPhone and iPad Prime Video app, so essentially agreeing to similar app store guidelines as the ATV, the ball was in the Amazon's court all along.
And Amazon also added an Amazon shopping app to ATV and still held back from releasing a Prime Video app, that is idiotic from where I stand.
