Hi, forgive this obvious query, but do people believe we will be able to access Amazon Prime Video on an ATV3 ? Thanks

wouldn't that just be amazing. ATV with 4K HDR10/DV support.

streaming HDR is significantly better though. That and 4K go hand in hand, so that is why a 4K streaming device is so important IMO.

...which probably comes with h.265 too. The popular spin is that h.265 basically makes a quality 4K stream fit into about the same file size as h.264 1080p files. Whether true or false, h.265 is generally assumed to arrive with a 4K box and that + HDR would be a whopper event for :apple:TV5. Even the crowd who is so anti-4K (which I doubt will persist one minute after Apple rolls out a 4K:apple:TV) can get a lot more out of h.265 because h.265 doesn't only work with 4K... meaning 1080p, 720p and even SD files could be shrunk down in size without losing quality... or left at about the same size and actually adding quality.

Apple likes to sell hardware. So no. I suspect by this point, :apple:TV3 is probably dead to Apple. You might see minor updates to keep underlying common code uniform but I would assume all new apps will be reserved exclusively for the 4 or maybe (hopefully) 5.

And some desirable feature on the iPhone 8 won't work on the iPhone 7.

And some desirable feature on the next Mac won't work on the current one.

And some desirable feature on the next iPad won't work on the current one.

It is the Apple way.

Cool. This might make Prime worth it finally.

For some. For many others Prime has always been worth it and this just enhances its value.

My wife orders just about everything we need around the house other than food from Amazon so the Prime subscription pays for itself with the the 2 day shipping component. All of the extras they throw in are nice but we rarely use them. Lack of an Apple TV app has been a big reason why we rarely use Amazon Video so, for us and those like us, this is very welcome news.

Cool, but I'm more interested in the big British TV companies putting their apps on there (i.e. ITV* and Channel 4).

*unless there's another way to get Family Guy and American Dad for free in the U.K.

I'm waiting for a 4k ATV. Netflix and Amazon Prime both stream 4k UHD. It's time.

HDR, HDR, HDR. on ATV. On Macs...
Will Apple ever support HDR monitors, editing or even UHD HDR BluRay?

How about a 4k Apple TV? Don't tell me it's not mainstream enough, because I would just defer you to BestBuy.com. The everyman is buying a 4k TV in 2017.

the everyman is buying it because tv manufactures are pushing it. It's a market created totally by them. And most of those "4k" tvs are that in name only. Its a market that is woefully short on content.

Amazon prob figures that fire sticks have topped out & everyone who wants one has it &

Not sure about this, I can stream content over cellular, just can't download stuff over 100mb, incl apps, that's the restriction that needs lifted.

You can't stream any iTunes video content from the TV app over cellular.

Like many others, I'm also waiting on a 4K HDR Apple TV. Just got a new TV a couple months ago and I'm still using my ATV3 on it. I'd love to see a WWDC release, but I'd settle for a Fall release.

If the TV app hooks into amazon video content I might actually start watching anything on prime video.

This is awesome news! Now I can ditch that worthless Firestick and have Netflix, Hulu, DirecTV NOW and all in one place. And on a platform that actually works (well)!

If only the TV app can pull search or suggestion results from ALL of those apps.

I saw a big 4K tv being sold at Walmart for like $500. It's officially mainstream now. Bring on the 4K Apple TV

Hmmm good question. I'm thinking no. Only because if they come out with a new Apple TV, they will make the older ones obsolete. Just a guess though.

But how often do you really need those things in 2 days? Like, how often would 7-10 days be too long? Those are the only times the 2-day shipping component is actually a benefit.

It's great news the Amazon Video app is coming - here in the UK, shows including American Gods, Mr Robot and Preacher are Amazon exclusives in addition to its own content, which includes the superb Bosch.
Along with Netflix, Amazon is also one of the few sources to stream 4K HDR content that can really show off the latest TVs.

BUT...
What I'm really interested in is whether the deal might also bring Apple Music to Amazon's Echo speakers, which currently offer Spotify, Amazon Music and TuneIn.
My household uses Apple handsets/tablets and Amazon Echos - so am in the annoying position of subscribing both to Apple Music and Spotify at the moment and would be good to do away with the latter.
Apple, of course, already makes its service available to Sonos speakers, so there is precedent. But it might give people one less reason to buy it's forthcoming Echo rival.

You can argue the necessity for 2-day shipping all day long. For some people, $99 is a drop in the bucket and is well worth it. For others, waiting 5+ days for every shipment is fine. I probably receive 100 Amazon packages a year (2 per week on average) and I like that I can easily reorder vitamins (or whatever) when I realize that I'm down to a two-day supply and need them fast. I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon that I would have to run all over town to get. It arrives at my doorstep in 2 days, and to me, $99 is a steal.

Either way, this discussion has nothing to do with Amazon Prime Video on the Apple TV.
