Not sure this deserves a big announcement. Just highlights how bad it was that this hasn't always been available. And yes, I blame both sides.
Yeah really. Sure let's have mobile apps in iOS but not on their tv.

What did they think I was going to do?
I'm a prime subscriber, so I have access.
My Appletv plays every other streaming service I want.

It didn't make me go out and buy a fire tv, it just made me basically skip using amazons video service until this inevitability happens.

But how often do you really need those things in 2 days? Like, how often would 7-10 days be too long? Those are the only times the 2-day shipping component is actually a benefit.

More often than you'd think. We tend to wait until we're very low or almost out of something before we place an order so getting it in 2 days (including Sunday delivery) is sometimes a life saver. We both hate going shopping at the super stores around here (Target and Walmart) and the nearest Sams Club and Cost Co are about 25 minutes away so we find Amazon Prime and Prime Pantry to be a great alternative. We really only have to go to the grocery store for fresh and frozen items anymore. Anything else we can get delivered right to our doorstep.

If we were a little more organized and planned better 2 day shipping wouldn't matter but for $99 a year we think the convienience factor makes it worth it.

"One of the only" eh? I guess they don't want to count Vudu (aka Ultraviolet) in that claim. I don't use Ultraviolet, but a LOT of people have a lot of digital movies stored on Ultraviolet and no way to view them (easily) from either FireTV (there is an Android app that will work out there if side-loaded) or AppleTV (I've heard one is in development recently, though). Amazon Prime will certainly help Apple sell more units, though. I couldn't even really consider Apple TV between the lack of Amazon Prime and not liking the fact AppleTV costs nearly twice as much as my FireTV 4K and doesn't even support 4K resolution! You might as well just have bought the ATV Gen3 while it was on sale for $40 (or was it $60?)

Frankly, I also find it irritating that so many studios are inconsistent with support for iTunes lately. One movie from 20th Century Fox I bought had the option of redeeming a digital movie copy either with Google Play, Ultraviolet or iTunes while another movie from them I bought on Blu-Ray only offered Google Play and Ultraviolet (no iTunes). It seems simpler to just encode your own Blurays instead (you're then not at their mercy for if/when they decide to pull support for digital copies, etc.)

But Prime is losing a lot of content when they launch Channels... So....?

For those that have Prime for use cases other than video but who also have an Apple TV it's a major win, for others probably not so much but at the end of the day it's giving more users more content options so I don't see any downside for anyone here.

Yeah, just a video streaming service, is one thing, but if you're a fairly regular consumer of physical products from Amazon, the shipping offset (and convenience) is WELL worth it, when you factor in Video, other cloud services (music, etc.), special buyer perks. Heck, I've got two things inbound from Amazon right now, ordered them just a couple of hours ago, and they'll be here on Sunday, right on time, with no shipping costs.

That is the genius of the Amazon service. If you are buying it for video or music, then why wouldn't you take advantage of the free shipping? Especially when many products are cheaper on Amazon and can be to you in a day or two without shipping. And depending on location, you can get a lot of things tax free. To me it's a no brainer.

thinking might just cancel netflix as it feels like amazin prime video is far better for choice

Netflix has waaaaay better original content imo. If you're into marvel Netflix is a must. Not to mention Stranger things and the get down also.

House of Cards, Bojack Horseman and The Ranch, to name a few others. Amazon Prime almost never has anything I want to watch. Usually if I'm looking for a specific movie for instance and it's not on Netflix or Hulu, I'll think, maybe Prime's got it. Nope, almost never does.

I would keep Netflix. The one thing I normally see is that Amazon and Hulu often play the same stuff throughout the month. Excluding original content of course. But if a movie is playing on Amazon, there is a good chance that same movie is on Hulu also. So if anything for me, I may get rid of Hulu. Once Amazon comes to Appletv.

Preach.

We were out in SF doing some VR work, needed a couple of last moment pieces of equipment, ordered them via Prime Now with options for 1) Free 2 hour delivery or 2) $8 Immediate delivery. Paid the 8 bucks, they arrived in TWELVE MINUTES. Everyone in the studio was like : OMG MAGIC. :D

For me I'd keep Hulu over Amazon prime for new episodes of tv shows I may or may not want to watch.

Most of the movies I'd want to watch are usually both on Amazon and Netflix.

Just because people are buying 4k TV's doesn't mean there is content for them. It is data intensive to stream which blows out peoples data caps.... The amount of content you can access in 4k is minimal... and frankly its not like the quality is going from SD to HD was... we are getting to the point where the human eye can hardly register the difference.

Do people REALLY need to see the contours, peaks, and valleys.... of the PIMPLES you can already see clearly in 1080? I don't think so.

Eventually it will be be more "normal" but that time is not today.

I've heard this BS argument on here for well over two years. It's total BS. Almost every set being sold now is 4K. Saying 4K content isn't needed is like telling someone in 1978 that VHS is pointless. The movies are too expensive and it's questionable whether you can record something off HBO and so what's the point? Cable? Aren't 13 potential channels good enough for everyone? Who's going to watch all those channels? Why do we need HD? My 21" console is sharp enough 30 feet away! Who needs it? A picture is a picture.

So why does the iPhone record video in 4K? It's not needed. Who needs to see contours of pimples? A better question is why does Apple record 4K on a tiny little phone, but you can't watch that content on a 70" 4K screen at home with Apple's $150-200 AppleTV when Amazon's $79-99 FireTV CAN play that content? THAT is a real argument instead of NONSENSE and BS. Hey, if you like your VHS deck, you can keep it. I had a laserdisc player when DVD did not exist. It was 425 lines of resolution instead of 240. People thought I was nuts. I wanted a better picture. I bought $2000 ribbon speakers because fart cans and TV speakers aren't even close to good enough. I had 5.1 sound when Dolby Digital and DTS decoders were brand new and only laserdiscs had DD/DTS sound.

Some people want the BEST. I thought those people were Apple users, but all I see are EXCUSES from Apple users why Apple can't manage to make the best Macs, the best Phones or the best TV playback device, even though they cost more than those that CAN do it!

As for Best Buy, I was surprised at how many Ultra Blu-Rays are available there already and they are still pretty darn new. Netflix 4K and Amazon 4K content has been around for some time now. Some people don't have data caps. I have 110Mbps download speeds. 4K is not a problem at that speed. I can do more than one room at the same time no problem and that's not even close to my cable provider's maximum available speed (which is currently 500Mbps). I can practically stream it myself out to others if Skype supported it (11Mpbs upload speed). It's time to get with the PRESENT. The FUTURE is 8K+ (they say about 16-24k is needed to fool the eye into thinking it's seeing out a window so we're not even CLOSE to "reality" yet).

This is a good step as it lessens the chance of double payments. I know I am paying for things twice on Apple and Amazon. Since iTunes locked me out on authorizations a few months back it's been all Amazon.

Don't care. Bought three Roku streaming sticks for the same price as one Apple TV. With Apple's latest trend of increasing pricing, I'm soon to only have my MacBook left....

He said "buying", not "already owning".

Between the office and home, I have 6 TVs, all of which are 1080p. But if I were to buy a TV tomorrow, it would 100% be 4K.
4K gives you 4K and nothing more but it also adds a lot of new issues. My parents own a 4K TV but not a single thing that can play 4K. They have a terrible internet connection that prevents streaming and own no players or offline media.

The big stumbling blocks for 4K are not the screen itself nor people there to buy them. All issues are related to content and delivery. As we all know a crap 4K stream looks worse than a 1080p bluray with good quality 4K capable of beating 1080p exceeding most streaming bandwidth and requiring enough diskspace to fill harddrives in a blink of an eye. 4K will come but there is no rush for it and most won't be seeing anything in quality 4K for many years.

Yeah, but I'm sure apple wanted their cut prime membership fee for folks who sign up through the video app which is absolutely a no go. Apple doesn't deserve that ongoing money.
I agree, but that's why you do what everyone else does... tell people to signup online. Literally that simple.
