I've often thought it would be handy to have a central UI for managing all the shows I watch across different apps. Similar to the way Siri works now, with universal search, but a single app that could provide the same results, with a universal watchlist.

Oh, this is something like: "Other people also bought" from amazon! That is so magical! So amazing! So new! So exciting. More!

Honestly, any new icon is more fascinating.

I think it will include a watchlist. The universal search shows Apple TV can already go directly to an episode located within an app. The watchlist would just need to bookmark that direct link the universal search already provides.

This is exactly what is needed on all set top streamers. I have discovered and followed shows because of Netflix's discovery UI. Shows I never knew existed when they were on their regular network schedule. The article is correct in that new shows or less popular shows are put next to popular once to drive discovery. That will not work in the streaming world where we watch entire seasons on our own schedules. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon currently do this.

There is not a single smart TV on this planet that is able to do everything the Apple TV can. I bought a top of the line smart TV last year and by now it isn´t updated anymore and services are shutting down as the support dies. My smart TV has grown dumber by the month and it wasn´t that smart to begin with.

That's technically true since smart TVs don't support Airplay and the Apple Store. But most would argue that some can do quite a bit more. There are Roku Smart TVs that can do 4k, HDR, Amazon Prime video, and hundreds of other content apps that Apple TV doesn't support. Safe to say that Roku will continue to update too.

I really had high hopes for my Apple TV 4, but I use it so rarely now I actually leave it unplugged. I used to use it for Airplay, but the Play on Roku feature is much better for my purposes. An app that's basically an ad platform isn't going to bring me back anytime soon.

I generally agree that smart tv interfaces are inferior, but I do use the LG app for things like Dolby Vision 4K HDR that are pretty elusive on streaming boxes right now.

How does it know which one of my family members is using the Apple TV at that moment in time?

All it needs to do is give you a list based on what each member select in the individual apps. Then you chose what is relevant to you.

I have 3rd gen apple tv and im looking to replace it. Should i buy the existing 4th gen apple tv or is a 5th gen going to be launched in the next few months?

I really hope this app comes not preinstalled...

It shouldn't be an app but just a feature.
Two main parts.
1. Flag titles (music, movies, tv shows) you want to see notifications about. When its in itunes, when its on any app you subscribe to etc. when you turn on your Apple TV Monday night it reminds you that there's a new Westworld etc cause you 'favorited' that title and you have HBO Now.

2.Opt in suggesting new titles based on what you watch and listen to. They have all sorts of algorithms from genius to itunes match, even some from when they bought beats and lala. If they cleaned the heck up with their meta data they could work all that together into a nice tool.

No one knows. If there is an update then it might be 4K. The current Apple TV is great and will perform well for a long time. Specs are not really an issue beyond the omission of 4k

Apple, nobody cares about this. EVERYONE, however, cares about a new Mac Pro.
We also care that the new MBP has the ports we need: (HDMI, SD card reader, headphone jack).
If you focus on what customers WANT, you'll be more profitable. It's that simple.

Everyone cares about a new Mac Pro? Everyone?

Everyone cares for a new Mac Pro? Get a hold of yourself... The Mac Pro is a professional-only product, your estimates are far off. But yeah, a Mac event should rather focus on Mac mini and Mac Pro instead of apps to the Apple TV..

Great! An app to confirm to us in the UK that there is nothing much by the way of content here on the Apple TV....

.... unless of course they make this app US only as usual, taking the Apple default position of peetending the rest of the world does not exist!!

You're right, we do seem to get bummed on available content. However, is this Apple's fault or should we be looking at ITV, C4, 5, Amazon, Virgin and Sky (well, actually, we do have NowTV) and saying "guys it's been a year what the F have you been doing? You already have iOS apps, 60% of the work is pretty much done, what's the beef?"

There is only so much Apple can do.

I guess I'm wrong. But I'm legitimately surprised. When the Mac Pro is new, it's always the best Mac there is. No doubt. ESPECIALLY back when it was still a tower. I've always hated the iMac, but the Mac Pro has always been the perfect system... until Tim Cook's Apple started neglecting it.

I dumped cable because I was sick of ads telling me what to watch, now I can have an app that's an add that is telling me what to watch?

Stop with this rubbish and show me a new 17" MBP already!!

It would be nice to have an app to aggregate links to all my favorite shows across the various services. As an added bonus, it would be nice if it had notifications of new episodes and such.

How about some single sign on already? And where is the new live aerial screen savers that we're mentioned at WWDC?
