Last few years, Apple has really done a fantastic job of screwing up the whole Mac line up. There is literally not a single Mac that I want to buy to replace my current machines (2012 mac mini and 2013 MBA).

Let's run through the current line up one by one.

Mac mini - aging and needs an update on CPU, GPU etc...
Mac Pro - apology accepted but hurry up with the new one
iMac - still nice if you are in the market of all-in-one
MacBook - under powered and 1 USB-C port limits appeal to niche buyer
MacBook Air - aging badly; a tragedy that Apple refuses to make a retina MBA because it would be a best seller
MacBook Pro - ESC version is a great machine but too expensive still. Touch Bar should be an option. Dropping magsafe, USB-A and SD card is stupid and user hostile hence all the outcry from usual Pro buyers.

Apple summoned up some "courage" to redo the Mac Pro. They should do the same for the rest of the Mac line up.

So Apple can sell iphones and tablets that don't change drastically over time, just the internals, but it feels a need to get rid of computers that it doesn't bother updating in years? They would not be doing this sort of thing if they made most of their profits off computers. Its a real shame what we have to put up with so Apple can have good news for their shareholders.

I hope the macbook will get two more ports, a lightening and another USB-C which are much needed.

Tim lies when he says that they pity products beside each other. If the Macbook air got an updated screen, it would KILL the macbook out of the water. NO one wants one USB-C. One would would be nice, but what is really awesome and missed is the magsafe2.

Tim will disappoint. He products aren't well thought out, lack inter-connectability, and his love for dongles is horrendous. Let's see the garage Tim puts out! I have lost all faith in Apple.

This rumor does give a bit of hope on Apple. Hopefully Apple will fix the macbook pro, and if the Macbook Air gets some love, that would be amazing. I bet that all Tim will do is add a touch bar to the macbook pro.

I'm with those of you that are calling for a serious mobile GPU and an option for more RAM. KabyLake is way overdue...

I hate to say it, but why focus on Macs when they get more revenue from iOS devices? My cynical side waits for the day when Apple ports Xcode to iOS or Windows & drops its Mac line.

I'd love one but I would have to remortgage the house :p

Macsales sells 4TB SSDs for the Mac Pro: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/SSDA13MP4.0K/

Apple will announce the Macbook C as they go up against the Chromebooks and cheaper Window Market. 12 Inches. no touchbar. Plastic Shell. Slightly slower than Macbook and Pros. Priced at $499

The Macbook Pro sans Touch Bar *is* for all intents and purposes, the new Macbook Air. This should be the model students look to if they want a solid, cheap education machine. But, its very confusing, because shouldn't the Macbook have been the model that came up to replace the Macbook Air, not the Pro?

I think it's highly possible the 13" MBP sans touchbar could be re-modelled and rebranded as the New Macbook Air. Apple know Air is (today) synonymous with value and performance, its a strange move to have this model badged as a Pro as they recently have done.

The Macbook serves as the ultimate in thin and light, and thats all really. But thats more of a business-persons use-case on tray tables and in board meetings. The Macbook Air, for its part, is still a workhorse, and the non-tb 13" MBP serves this purpose also.

I think its fair to say that since the introduction of the Macbook, the entire MB line-up has been confused. It really needs to settle and find its footing again. Hope this happens at WWDC.

And FWIW, i think the Macbook will get the Touch Bar at WWDC.

I agree that the base MBP should have been the MBA replacement, but for students it's a bit pricy.....$1,500 vs $1,000.....50% more costly. Also, there are some pretty amazing deals on MBAs at the big box stores, so students can often purchase a MBA for under $800 and get a solid reliable computer that will easily last 4 years of college/HS.

As I said earlier, if Apple upgraded the MBA's processor and trackpad (Force Touch), it would continue to be a very popular and well selling laptop for a few more years. The MBA has plenty of power, and many folks prefer the consumer friendly features of this now classic machine: keyboard travel, ports, SD slot, battery life, mag safe charger, and the beloved illuminated Apple logo.

And once again... only internal updates...

Apple Innovation is dead.

Are these the great updates that are in the pipeline??

I still think they should release the 2015 form factor with Kaby lake, 32gb, MagSafe, a big honkin battery and a top end mobile gpu. Call it the MacBook power user edition .

I'm for that, but with the 2012 form factor. I want a machine that I can replace the battery, disk, memory, the stupid cable between the disk & motherboard, and whatever else they put in there that wears out, gets behind in performance, or has a design or manufacturing defect.

My problem is that I can't afford a retina display, my vision is poor enough that I can't appreciate it, and I make extensive use of external displays anyway. And battery charge isn't so useful to me because I usually need a lot more screen real estate to work, and once you've plugged in the 24-inch monitor you might as well plug the computer in next to it, and once the battery gets too old to hold a charge and you can't replace it that's just pathetic. And the extreme thinness makes the machine more fragile and forces them to make radical design choices that break. I already have an electronic device that has a long battery life and is thin enough to cut cheese-- that's my iPad. And I need a lot more storage than I can afford in an SSD drive-- so much for Apple's vaunted design esthetic-- and thinness-- when I've got an external hard drive and usb hub duct taped to the lid of the laptop and plugged into a dongle on the side. It really pisses me off that Apple will sell a laptop with totally inadequate disk space, memory & cpu in order to claim that they have an "affordable" laptop, but refuse to sell a model that compromises on screen sharpness, thickness, battery life, disk type and repairability, which are the things that I need.

I think that they should call their current offering the "MacBook Ditz" Pretty on the outside, stupid on the inside. (Actually, that brings up a whole different meaning to "pro" doesn't it...)

I understand and share most of the general sentiment of your post but just to clarify, professional cameras use CF and Cfast cards. Some have dual slots and can take SD cards but the standard in top tier / pro gear is still CF.

Touché but ALL the Sony cameras (A99, A7) use SD, the 5DIV uses both I believe and not sure where Nikon is (never used Nikon)...I think they're integrating XQD? GH4/5 uses SD--call these prosumer. Point is I could see CF being too large for the form factor they're aiming for, but SD is tiny as is XQD.
[doublepost=1495034408][/doublepost]
Pro camera's have moved on from SD. Nikon is now XQD and Canon is CFast. For prior generations most pro's used Compact Flash (CF) as SD was way to slow and too easily lost. I believe Medium Format have all been CF for at least a decade.

I should have said PRO-sumer...though Canon, at least the 5D uses both.
[doublepost=1495034550][/doublepost]
Ah, I did not know that the Canon 1DX, we have 6 of them, can use these flimsy SD cards...
I stand corrected but the 5D uses Cfast AND SD...all other relevant PRO-sumer cameras, use SD...whether UHSI or II. Those reading these forums and using 1DXs or Medium Format are a small minority compared to the 5/6D, A99, A7xx, G4/5 users out there.

As a Macbook fan, I would hope to see a few changes/new features rather than just very slight change which hardly differentiates it from the previous model. Having said that, new Apple computers can be expensive so don't think I would invest straight away. I've had a reconditioned Macbook for the last 5 years and it's been excellent, so whenever I'm in need of a new computer I will definitely look at Apple products.

Not on a Mac, please no!

if Apple provided users the option to use a touchscreen, or not. Why would that be a bad thing?

you don't have to buy the touchscreen option, and say they only provide a touchscreen option, if you chose to not use it, what would be the problem

I find this type of comment and thought process to be bizarre. And it's being repeated by Apple's execs as well.

"we don't like touch screens so they're bad and we won't provide users who want them one"

what happened to this thing called "user choice". there's clearly demand for touchscreens as there are a lot of PC's that are shipping with them, and doing quite well.

Adding a feature like touchscreen to a laptop doesn't suddenly mean you have to only use the touchscreen. the touchscreen doesn't replace your trackpad or keyboard. it doesn't suddenly render them obsolete.

you still get trackpad, keyboard, hi DPI IPS display, but in addition touch.

thats MORE features. yet some of you guys complain that adding features is actually a bad thing.

I hope I hope I hope Apple gets it right this time. 32gb memory, magsafe power, and if they can bring back the great key-feel of the 2011 mbp that'd be awesome. I'd love a good nvidia video chipset with some cuda cores too. The last thing I care about is weight and thickness. Give me a computer I can actually use that'll last 5+ years.

The Macbook Air is dead. Its not coming back, there is no reason with the 12" Macbook and the 13" Macbook Pro both being smaller than it.
And yet Apple doesn't seem to be going with any kind of logic anymore. So I would agree with you but Apple isnt really making much sense lately so I'm not going to predict much of anything right now

Tim Cook is systematically destroying Apple.

Really are people still going on about this. Sorry but i don't agree, Apple has grown since the death of a steve Jobs, they have now topped $800 billion, the iPhone is as popular as ever and Mac sales have grown.
