AppleCare+ is your friend.

Or the way cheaper upgrade of your insurance that every insurance company offers. Most providers do have better and cheaper insurances than AC+, especially for the X.

Apple keeps pushing me away. 1K+ phones and expensive repairs is ridiculous.

Why would a more expensive phone be cheaper to repair?

It actually cost less to replace the windscreen of my car.

What does that have to do with an OLED screen? One is just a large sheet of glass shaped in a form, the other is an electronic device that gives light, touch and image. It also cost less to replace the cupholder in my car...

Anyone who doesn’t buy it is either mental or just waiting for something bad to happen

Or just has better and cheaper phone insurance on their insurance plan and/or provider. You're actually crazy if you take AC+ when the alternatives are better and cheaper.

Frankly I don't blame them. All I ever see these days in Apple stores are countless people getting smashed up iPhones repaired and replaced. If people are gonna keep doing it, might as well make it worth Apple's time to do it rather than doing it at 'charitable' prices.

So basically my £50 excess on insurance is better value. I’d have to break a lot of stuff for my insurance premiums to go up by the same amount as Apple care costs for all our Apple devices

LOL. Phone insurance is a complete rip off. That’s widely known. To each his own.

You might as well say that the cost of an iPhone X is either $1199 or $1349. With an all-glass phone and those repair prices, AppleCare is basically mandatory.
Exactly. Apple Care+ is your best friend. Remember if you crack the back glass it’s a full phone replacement (549)

If you buy the iPhone X without any type of insurance (Applecare or otherwise) I'd rather have you just give me your money, because you clearly have no problem just ****ing yourself over lol

The way I look at it is this:
I bought two, one for my wife and one myself. That’s $400 for AC+
What’s the liklihood that we both break a screen or destroy a phone? Not.
So I’ll take my chances.
And with the Verizon annual upgrade plan. I’ll probably not keep this phone more than a year but even that’s not nothing because it’s cost $130 in taxes and upgrade fees alone.

Romeo and Juliet must be costly and labor intensive to repair. If you smash your screen on this phone you’re also likely to be smashing those new delicate sensors.

More I think about it the cost of mobile phones is crazy. Apple are my first choice in electronics but it’s getting to the point I just don’t see their value. Not as dependent on the eco system anymore. However I still won’t jump ship to crappy windows or Android. It’s more the movies/music and smart home where I’ve diversified.

United Kingdom: £286 for screen repairs, £556 for other damage

So now Apple have moved away from dollar to pound which was bad enough, they are now suggesting that the exchange rate is so poor (inc VAT) that the cost is more for us UK folks than in dollars....ludicrous!

iPhone is far more than 'just a phone'. The cost for such premium tech should be obvious. Flagship Android devices are priced similarly.

I just wish AC+ could cover more than one device (Like an X and my iPad) instead of being per-device. And yes, I understand exactly why they don't do this.

I never use a case, and I only rarely buy insurance, but it’s a must this time.

I’m going with AT&T mobile protection, since it covers loss and theft as well. $8.99/month is reasonable.

People continue to pay ever higher amounts to have this “brand” and Apple knows it so they are just maximizing their profit. From a business standpoint that’s smart.

Apple is offering a fairly wide range of price points for the iPhone...X, 8, 7, SE.
