If this comes to pass at the prices mentioned then it might as well be DOA. It would be priced outside the reach of all but a few. In any case a great many (most?) luxury vehicles are leased and even then the pricing would be very high at this level.

Can they provide anything beyond what the usual suspects provide at even a lower price point than this rumor?

Wait for version 3 of the car (“vehicle”, because Apple will “revolutionize the transportation”, so it will NOT be a simple car) for it to be decently good. iCar, here I won’t go!. 100k… a little wow… a little expensive for most pockets.

You can't charge $100,000 for an EV without full self-driving. I'm as big a Tesla-hater as they come, but no other company has anything close to Tesla's FSD beta. Yes, it still makes mistakes. It might always make mistakes. But it can do things right now that no other car can. And you can get a Model Y with FSD for less than $100,000.

If someone handcuffed me, put me in a Model Y with FSD, and had it take me to my nearest movie theater, I'm reasonably sure I would arrive in one piece.

Now, if Apple could create a reliable and safe self-driving car and rent it out like Elon's notional robotaxi, that might work. But if Tesla can't get FSD working so it's reliable and safe after nearly a decade, I don't know that Apple can do it by 2026. I'm not convinced that FSD is even possible with current or near-term technology.

Financially speaking, Apple will be required to sell this at premium price for a few years until they have the equity to design and create a lower cost vehicle. Even though Apple has more equity than most companies, the Apple car makes Apple a "start-up company" similar to Lucid, Tesla, Rivian. All three manufactures started with their premium cars and over time released their cheaper models.

Forget it! $100k in 2026 means it’s an overpriced vapourware! EVs prices are already trending down towards a commodity. Of the 3 major global markets, China’s EV prices have already gone below ICEV prices while Europe is trending for the crossover in the coming year or two. By the time Apple is ready, good luck unless it’s aimed as a premium elite product. Sorry, by then, Apple Car won’t even be competitive in the mass market.

Comes with one year warranty and can be extended for another year with Apple Care+

Just imagine how scary the ride gonna be when self-drive mode will be assisted by Siri with help of Apple Maps!

With Lidar, it's very possibly Apple can achieve by 2026. At this time Tesla is the only auto manufacture doing autonomy via 100% camera.

My Model X does run FSD well [but I've also been testing for 2-years so I know its limitations]

Apple Care+ is the only factor that they can surprise the world. Unlike every Apple product, Cars last significantly longer if built correctly. A well-designed car can last 30+ years.

"Apple continues to look for a partner for the manufacturing of its car...."

Apple needs to contact this guy in Vietnam. Wood is Green and recyclable. I bet he could upscale his work.

I think an EV from Apple will be small and meant to charge at home for daily commutes, and this will be priced lower than everyone expects.

That canoo interior looks incredibly uncomfortable. Why are seats so shallow? Who is supposed to sit on those tiny, upright, non-reclining side seats? Why does this look like a very small and unpleasant bus?

You have to factor in the size of the accompanying Apple polishing cloth.

Apple will never release a car. Supporting a car is not something they will do. Sales and service will be a nightmare not to mention parts and since its Apple, you know third party parts wont exist because it will be as locked down as a John Deere tractor.
Don't forget they probably would include subscription-based stuff just to have "faster acceleration" like what Mercedes is doing and prices to repair the car would probably cost as much as a decent used vehicle.

On a slightly unrelated note, if Apple had really sponsored Lightning McQueen would he soon have to change his name to USB-C McQueen
