Seriously though... I love Apple but their QA has been garbage lately. If this car is real, it will crash into a telephone pole each time it starts up.

I'm still skeptical of Apple making a car, but this at least sounds more realistic. And since Tesla seems intent on nuking its own fanbase, it's the perfect opportunity for Apple to hoover in on tech-obsessed liberals with too much money.

What a bargain , I'll have one for each foot /S

IRL Thank God for UBER

Got rid of my Mercedes s class a few years ago , what a pile of junk that was .... never again

Now every time I go out I just choose Executive or Luxury and get chauffeured around in a brand new one without all the hassle and expense and total brain damage of actually owning one , maybe an apple one in a few years time ?

As long as Eddie Cue's not driving I don't really care tbh

$100,000+ will put it out of reach for many people. Nice try Apple, but I believe this will be a miss! If Apple were in the $40,000 to $60,000 range they would likely sell a lot of these cars.
The first 2008 Tesla Roadster cost $1,000,000 and today they hold EV market share.

we are nowhere nearly ready to have autonomous driving without steering wheels. That is so ludicrous to think we can have that before all cars can radio each other like planes do.

Why do I have a feeling no one wants or cares about Apple Car? Am I wrong?
You are right.

This is something that 99.9% of the population simply cant afford.

It is the Studio Display... the Fully loaded Mac Pro... The Gold Apple Watch (remember that?)...

Like it or not they can release what they like and make it as 'amazing' as they like but for a car, when there are better alternatives for half the price many people simply wont be able to afford it.

Btw, Apple doesn't just need to design a car, is needs to build it, in quantities it can sell. Making that happen is the much bigger question, I doubt Apple will build it themselves, so they need someone else to do it. Foxconn is apparently starting but if they are ready in time is a different question, also can they build Apple's car? I think they also talked with other car makers about it. So maybe Apple wants to make a car but reality comes their way and says: nope.

I still can't figure out why Apple would want get into the car business it just doesn't make any sense to me. I thought it made sense if they were working on systems like CarPlay and autonomous driving but an actual car seems like such a big leap. Maybe the whole Apple Car thing is just Apple's way of trolling Elon so whenever Elon ticks off Tim they release Apple Car rumors to mess with Tesla.

You're wrong. I'm confident Apple could put the logo on toilet paper and a segment would refuse to use any other. They just managed to create a backlog for $20 handkerchiefs.

Apple Air? Water? Dirt? Rocks?

"I refuse to breathe inferior regular air. It's Apple air or (literal) bust for me" ;)

However, jokes aside: if the car is as envisioned in the first part of the article, that would be very interesting and Applesque- even at an insane Apple price. A "regular" car with a steering wheel, etc that offers some highway assist is just another car... unless, it comes with dynamic island, the "iconic" notch ("that's not a notch, it's more windshield to the left & right") or both. (I'm just not good at "jokes aside").;)
Porsche and Ferrari are not so far from this already.

Sadly cars are getting more like a subscription in near future.

People were told to buy electric cars and then government in few countries are forcing them to not use it due to possible power shortages. FFS… I literally cry working in automotive industry looking how passion is changing into money pig sometimes… not always but BMW lost its spirit, due to EU limits engineering is at its pick level to deliver limits in cost of durability of engines.

Even car batteries might be soon serialized to not allow easy replace :/

Many people can’t afford Audis, Mercedes, Porsche yet they’ve been making them for decades because people are buying them. Apple Car will be no different.

The criteria that people are judging the car on - that hasn’t been released, seen, and no one knows the first thing about - is as usual quite funny. This is Apple, let’s be real, at the very least they’ll get as far as Tesla has with their little ********.

But of course, let’s all be endlessly negative about it.

It only really makes sense to me as a project built entirely around Apple hardware's increasingly beefy machine learning capabilities combined with self-driving. "Apple wants to make an effectively new category of personal vehicle", that I can buy, so I really don't see why they'd continue with the half-measure of just designing "a car with Apple branding" like this report suggests. It just seems weird.
