I guess I need to buy 4k HDR TV before I get too excited about this. ;) Does 4k HDR even make a big difference compared to 1080p?
HDR makes a bigger difference than 4k, but I love my 4k HDR set and wouldn't go back to 1080.

I understand the concerns about data caps from another poster, but I have no cable TV, I stream everything, and have not passed 350GB in a month. I suppose, for those that stream 24/7, or have multiple people streaming frequently, it would be a problem.

4K? Seriously noticeably difference, particularly on larger panels (sorta why I don't really get the super HiDPI panels on some android phones).

HDR? Less so, depends a bit more on the content itself, the television, and the source, but it too can be very pronounced.

I would love it if the price comes down compared to the current models. I think the Apple TV is a good product but the price is a bit too high for what it offers compared to other products. But I won't be surprised at all if they keep their price points.

They'll probably keep the current model around for a cheaper price, but I doubt the 4K model will be any cheaper.

I'm not going to lie, I've never watched anything in 4K. I don't own a blueray player and don't subscribe to cable TV.

My Sony is about 4 years old but not a 4K just 1080p, is 4K that much better?

I mainly just stream YouTube or watch my iTunes content.

Too late, I already bought an Nvidia Shield TV a long time ago which I'm sure will still make the next Apple TV obsolete on the day it's released.

Would love to also see Apple debut something akin to the Amazon or Roku stick or Roku express. An ATV mini of sorts that remains 1080p and comes with the old bare bones remote.

A 4K UHD blu-ray is noticeably better than a 1080p one, but the difference is a LOT less drastic than going from standard to HD. I expect the difference will be similar with streaming. I don't think it's worth it unless you're replacing your TV anyway.

Uh... 4K is 4x the resolution of 1080p, not 2x.

Uh....no.

Think about it. 4k itself is a number that only refers to the number of vertical lines in the image. There are twice as many lines in a 4k image as there are in a 1080p image. It is confusing because 1080p refers to the number of horizontal lines. You have four times as many pixels because twice the resolution in each direction gets you four times the surface area.

Here you go

Here is more on why it is only 2x the resolution:
