AWESOME SAUCE!!! I had a feeling they were coming out with a new one when they dropped the price on the current one. Apple just doesn't drop prices out of the kindness of their heart. I've been wanting an AppleTV to go with my new Plasma. Looking forward to this!!:)

I hope this is true and ATV will finally get a serious and major update.
My only wish is a way to ATV to become independent from the Mac. I hate the fact my Mac needs to be on and running iTunes anytime I want to see/listen to something.
I also think this if is true, will finally put a lid on the Apple Television display set pipe dream.

The App Store would be the killer app for Apple TV if this is true. I just recently bought one and while it's nice, I kept thinking about how much better it would be with an App Store and apps from third party developers.

about time for an update....Sweet, i'll buy one and give my old one (3rd Gen.) away :)

the buyer's guide says buy now, just updated, what! (price drop only) wrong

I believe Apple is "behind" in this regard. Not only based on competitors - but because I was told by several developers in the industry that Apple had been intending to open up channels/apps in 2014.

could be interesting. i use my apple tv only for netflix, and the only reason i use it over my ps4 for netflix is that is consumes less power. other than that, its worse in every aspect. skipping forward/backwards in a movie? have fun waiting 5 seconds before playback continues, as opposed to near-instant on the ps4. hopefully it will be better in a new version.

I believe the ability to jailbreak? I don't have the AT3 and haven't kept up on "hacking" it

Interesting, I'll have to look into that. I have had no interest in jailbreaking mine so I might as well try and sell it then get a ATV 3 and have some cash left over.

I gonna be saving my Best Buy Reward certificates till June then. One old AppleTV going to bedroom other to the camper. Not gonna stress over the controller as long as it continues to work with my Harmony as good as this one does.

forget the watch, this is exactly what I was waiting for and something people will actually use. AAPL is going to make a lot of $ with this.

Oh don't worry... people will buy, and use, the Apple Watch.

And AAPL will make billions of $

Apple has sold 25 million AppleTV in 8 years... but the Apple watch will reach that milestone MUCH sooner.

And the Apple Watch has a much higher ASP. That will boost AAPL too.

This is true. I've noticed that among all the devices I've used Netflix on (PS3, iPad, iPhone), the Apple TV has the worst interface.

Prior to getting a Roku, I jailbroke for one reason only. Plex. Not a fan of iTunes.

I may say the more times I try to use Siri the more it pisses me off for not understanding any of the business names I want it to get me directions to

You should know the answer to that....of course not.

It'll support iTunes and AirPlay and that's about it. It'll only support other Apple products.

DLNA isn't what some people think it is. It's never been very successful. In fact, more components use Apple Airplay.

My UI improvement request is far more modest - I just hope that TV shows can be listed with subfolders for each season - that would be GREAT.

And something similar for movies in a series - example - a Harry Potter folder in movies, with each "episode" in the series inside that folder...

These would go a LONG way to "unclutter" the interface, at least for me...

My $0.02

We've heard this song from Apple before. Believe it when you see it.

We haven't. We have heard rumours. We haven't heard anything from Apple. You should really be clear in your mind about the difference between "random website claims that Apple plans ... " and "Apple plans ..."

Faster, smaller (maybe a stick?) and new interface design. As long as that TV package thing they offer is simply another option and not mandatory - I really don't want a cable box - which is what it sounds like it's becoming. I cut the cord on that crap years ago. I'm never going back to watching commercials. The real icing on the cake would be a full blown PLEX app. Give me that and I'd buy the next AppleTV the second it shows up in the Apple Store. :)

Searching would be nice too, right? instead of using a keyboard or app. It would be nice to not have to scroll a-z or whatnot if you have a significant library.

Again, sensational ******** rhetoric

For apple to say TV is "stuck in the 70's" is sensational rhetoric.

Back in the 70's you might have a remote, but then you had 10 channels and to know what was on TV you needed a printed TV Guide either in the newspaper or was delivered to your house monthly.

It is ridiculous for Apple to suggest that this is the current state of TV. While I think that most cable TV boxes have antiquated user interfaces, they are years behind what on-demand set top boxes offer, not decades.

Also Apple clearly needs to play catchup in the set-top box market as Apple TV has largely stagnated since its first release. It is more like Apple is stuck in 2007 while their competitors have had features like voice search and a significant improvement over access to content including "apps" and "stores" long before Apple has done so.

I just want Apple to stop all this ******** rhetoric and hyperbole with everything they do. I am ALL FOR a new Apple TV, I have been waiting a long time for Apple to do something better after seeing what Google and Amazon and others have done. But Apple has to seriously swallow some humble pie because they have CLEARLY not been the drivers to improve the TV experience until they come out with something that is clearly a game changer.

Apple has to stop showing up late and bragging about what they bring to the party.
