That would be a fail, as is not releasing it on the date you were planning to.
Well given that Apple has not yet announced a date when it would have been released, you can't really say it's a date they were "planning"to. Therefore...not a fail. Apple not releasing something on a day you think it will be released based on past years...isn't a fail.

You know what the word "delay" means, yes? It doesn't tend to get used in conversations regarding things being on time. Nice try tho.

How strange. It isn't even such a big update. Honestly, someone could have secretly installed iPadOS 16 on my iPad and I would not have noticed.
Yeah it’s so bad on the iPad it doesn’t feel any different than iOS 15 what was the team working on for the year

Tried Stage Manager on my M1 iPad Pro 11", didn't like it, turned it off.

I just want to use windows on my iPad the same way I always used windows on macOS and Windows:

- Let's supose I have Safari already opened, then I click on Mail to open it. The way I expect it to work is Mail to be opened alongside Safari. But this is not what happens with Stage Manager: it opens Mail on another app group, then I need to drag Mail to the Safari group, kind of merging the two app groups. That's a huge waste of time

- macOS and Windows remember the size and the position of each app/program, so every time I open the same app I know it will be opened with that same size and at that same place. But Stage Manager doesn't remember windows' sizes and positions, in fact it resizes and repositions each app depending on how much windows are opened at the same time. That really sucks

Really, this is just a gimmick with small practical usage, at least for me.

I don't want to resize and reposition an app every time I open it.

With what you say you want, you seem better off having a MacBook for your usage then. iPadOS =/= MacOS. You seem like someone that's probably complained that Apple just need to put MacOS on an iPad.

Stage Manager can remember position/size of using multiple windowed apps in a group, as I have Safari and Mail as one group on the right hand side, to pop open when I need to. That group stays there and I can bounce back to it when needed.

Stage manager is a different way of working with apps.

The animated page turning feature is still here…in iPadOS 15.6 at least. Does it vanish in iPadOS 16?
Yes it does, unfortunately. Which means I will be staying on 15.6, until my last iPad bites the dust then I'll look for an alternative. I know an alternative will not have animations (outside Kindle, which has a bad Ui in m.h.o) but I will NOT be giving Apple any more money. If iPad turns into a generic boring tablet I would find a much cheaper one.

I do know what it means, so you can drop the sarcasm. The word "delay" is coming from a non-official source (and one who seems to be wrong often, I might add). If someone from Apple said "we're delaying it"...you'd have a point.

Nice try though.

Yea, that's the reason for it, working from home..... never mind that every year people always complain about stability/bugs/issues with iOS and iPadOS releases, and if anything, iPadOS 16 is probably the most stable beta run I've seen in all my years beta testing iOS & iPadOS.

So easy to be a keyboard warrior, making snarky comments though.....
People are going to complain no matter what. The fact remains that iPadOS was a very minor update, delaying it doesn't do well for demonstrating the quality of their engineers, but yeah, working from home had 0 to do with it..... It's alright, you don't have to defend everything apple does, they are a huge company, they will be okay without you defending them.

Since macOS is usually later, does this mean Nov/Dec for Ventura?

It is - it'd be nicer if they moved to a longer cadence, but we know that'll never happen.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Apple has arguably already changed how they release yearly updates holding features back and adding them over the year in point releases, this will likely be the case again with iOS 16. There doesn’t have to be a brand new version every year at all.

Does anyone know if Stage Manager is available for non M1 iPads? I haven't seen any posts or comments about it..
They had it working on recent non-M1 iPad Pros with ample storage, but Apple said it wasn't responsive/fluid enough per online comments so they don't support it. Even the M1 based Air with base 64GB storage can't run stage manger, it needs at least 128 GB storage since it being used to also multiple apps to run at the same time.

The problem is the newest iPad mini just came out not even a year ago and doesn't have an M1. It's a bit too early for Apple to be dropping features.
It sure is but Apple wants to increase its sales margin for the iPads. They are low.

Mr. Tim Cook really found a way to force people to order a new iPad in 2022 and beyond. Pure Business mindset!

This is why I still wish Apple would decouple apps from the OS. This is going to leave people confused if they enable iCloud Shared Photo Library on their phone and then can't see quite a few of their photos on the iPad.

How about limiting the apps to 2 instead of running 4 or 6 apps then? Is that also not possible either?

A bummer. Could not they just delay Stage Manager for a later iPadOS release, as it was done before with the Universal Control? My iPad Air 4 is not getting Stage Manager anyhow, but I could at least make use of Files improvements. And that Weather app, woohoo!

I'm pretty ok with the mini not getting it. Who would want to use windowing on an iPad mini. I'm betting they never allow it on that form factor.

The beta has been very stable for me. However, while I'm glad they are bringing better external display support for the iPad, the stage manager setup is a bit odd, and honestly overworked if you ask me. I wish they just offered a more normal windowed experience, but maybe that's not possible without a massive rework of iPadOS.
Hopefully this extra time will at least give them time to improve Stage Manager.
