Apple to Eliminate Home Button in 2017 iPhone

Jony Ive said he wanted it to look like a SINGLE piece of glass...
Well this looks like a single piece of glass :p

Anyways, would be a day 1 buy for me. Kind of bored with the iPhone 6 design and I love how the Edge looks. Would be a win in my book.

And we're stuck with this year's iPhone...
I'm stuck with the iPhone 6 because the 7 isn't out yet. ;)

I will wait for next year's phone though; I was always planning on keeping my 6 for 3 years regardless of what Apple released (although at this point I could argue for getting this year's phone and then the 1st revision of next year's because it will have so many changes).

Yes, I use words for what their meaning. Words, numbers, symbols, have definitions, otherwise communication is impossible. Left is up, Yellow is U-turn, Hammer is water. "Investment" is neither a synonym nor slang for buying a consumer good in any sense of the word's meaning. The way you are using it is gobbly gook so I'm amused that you are upset at me for wanting to use it correctly.
You must be a really fun guy.

No bezels... hmm. While they definitely need to slim down the top and bottom bezels, curious to see how this would turn out.

The radically redesigned iPhone coming in 2017 will not feature a Home button, Bloomberg today confirmed in a wider report focusing on new mobile payment features coming to Japan.According to past rumors, the 2017 iPhone, which may be called the iPhone 8, will feature a complete design overhaul with an edge-to-edge flexible OLED display that does away with the top and bottom bezels where features like the Touch ID fingerprint sensor and front-facing camera are housed.

[snip]

The iPhone display may also feature edges that are curved on both sides, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, and it is rumored to have a glass body, moving away from the aluminum that's been used for iPhones since the iPhone 5. Other features that may be built into the 2017 iPhone include wireless charging, an enhanced Taptic engine, and new biometric capabilities like iris scanning or facial recognition.

With an all-glass body, that is going to be one slippery bar of soap!

I had an S7 Edge and accidental touches on the edges droves me nuts. With that being said I can't wait to see Apple's version of the curved screen. No way they would release a phone that would have nearly as many accidental touches. I guarantee it will function better in terms of accidental touches than the S7 Edge.

I'm in a similar situation, though I used to upgrade every second year. I was considering keeping my 6 Plus another year, but now I have to worry about it becoming affected by "touch disease." So far, Apple hasn't acknowledged any problem and committed to repairing iPhones out of warranty.

I could also argue for getting the iPhone 7 and waiting until at least one revision of the iPhone 8, since it'll have even more new tech that may or may not work well in the first iterations.

And, if rumors that the iPhone 8 will be one of three models turn out to be true (let's say high end with OLED = iPhone 8 Pro, large screen with LCD = iPhone 8 Plus, smaller screen with LCD = iPhone 8), how will that affect things? Knowing Apple, the iPhone 8 Pro will be much more expensive than the current Plus versions. In some ways, the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 will be more like S versions of the iPhone 7.

Ive.. of course he wants a "single sheet of glass" phone. Lol.

Anyway, why haven't we changed this site to iPhoneRumors yet? It's not the editors' fault. I don't think there are any Mac Rumors left.................prove me wrong Apple!

There are Mac rumors, just no new Macs. :)

A completely buttonless phone would be interesting. Everything done by gestures, motion or screen. With OLED they could have "Glance"-like features when locked that include on-screen buttons, etc.

I hope they call it iPhone X
[doublepost=1472221533][/doublepost]It will look good without the button but physically it will be hard to know what part of the phone is up in the dark or in dim light. Right now, I just drag my thumb over the home button and I know the phone is upright. Otherwise you won't know until the phone's screen is on.

And how do you get back to the home screen while using an app? Screaming, "There's no place like home! There's no place like home!" and clicking your heels together, hoping Siri will get it? I do hope they get rid of every single bug they have now that freezes the touch screen, too. I'd hate for the only way to reboot your machine to be to take it for service.
