Seriously who cares about next years iPhone. Im more interested in the iPhone 7. When the iPhone 7 comes out and all the discussion has completed, lets go nuts with next years iPhone. Pretty sad on Apples part when next years iPhone is getting more praise then this years.

You probably need a visual confirmation that the iPhone 7 is a minor update and then you'll probably lose your interest. Unless your 6 or 6 Plus is experiencing the gray bar of death or something.

Jesus christ. I don't think I've ever seen a whinier group of people on the bezel nutsack that I have here.

The iPhone 6S Plus and even Note 7 were a lot better to hold and use, but the Edge - you couldn't pick the thing up without it launching something, Bezel-less designs just don't work in the real world.

The 256GB storage upgrade should be pretty significant for a lot of people.

I'm not so sure if there are "a lot" of people who need 256GB, especially if that capacity will require $1,000 out of your pocket.

128GB sold pretty well, so there's no reason 256GB won't sell. Streaming just doesn't replace good old fashion local storage.

The issue will be do I want to spend the same amount of money for a smartphone as I would for a good laptop. I think the $1,000 amount represents a physiological barrier to many, unless Apple lowers the price so 256GB will only cost what 128GB costs today.

I hate to say it, but outside of work - I use my phone far more than my Macbook. So $1000 is not too far out there for some people.

Edged glass (but not how Samsung does it) and touch ID integration, no home button. Using that tactile feedback or 3d touch or force touch, whatever we want to call it .. that would be quite nice. You hold the phone and it's unlocked. But yeah, I am curious if that's what we will get, and if so, how we are going to resolve seeing home screen notifications (which are terrible in iOS10 btw in my experience, hello Windows Vista feeling) when we simply take the phone out of the pocket.

Next years iPhone doesn't need to be anymore thinner than it already is. It needs to have better battery life, a home button, 256GB storage option. Curved glass? I think thats a gimmick and not really useful.

The next iPhone should be made to be a little bit more durable as well. But if its going back to a iPhone 4/4S Glass front and back I don't see that possible. If the edges are going to be rounded, or curved I can see people chipping the edges or even cracking the phone with just simple use of the device, if its carried naked. A good case is a must have anyways..

Good luck.

I'm all for a bigger screen display if it means cutting out the bezels, and being able to hold the phone ergonomically. The increase in screen size in iPhone 6 and 6S was okay, but the bezels meant a phone that's just not ergonomic. So unwieldy to use and hold, and the button placement sucks.

On a separate note, I'm all about 10 year anniversaries being special and whatnot, but if that's the only reason they waited a year, that's just... ridiculous.

All of you people complaining about the bezels... Do you exclusively use your phone with two hands or something?? Because I almost exclusively use mine with one hand, since it's just more comfortable and convenient. Yet the base of my thumb/palm is constantly hitting stuff on the bottom of the screen when I don't want to. For example, using the Facebook app, if I'm interesting with something and have to stretch a bit to reach it, I'll accidentally press the tabs on the bottom of the screen. It is incredibly annoying, and I feel like that would be even worse on an "edge" phone with no bezels.

It seriously sounds like such a terrible idea. I don't understand why people obsess over it so much.

Umm no... if they were adding a second lighting port then maybe. With just a single port please show us how you will be able to charge and listen at the same time??

Who actually charges and listens to their iPhone at the same time?? I've always been so confused by this comment. If my phone is plugged in then it's just sitting there on the counter or desk charging (usually overnight) and when I'm listening to music it's in my pocket and I'm walking around or biking or doing something else that would prevent me from charging it anyways. If I'm sitting somewhere listening to music I'm not using my phone for that. Maybe I use my phone drastically different than a lot of people, but I've actually never charged it and used the headphone jack at the same time nor have I ever needed to. I think some people are making a WAY bigger deal about the headphone jack going away than it deserves...

I think they're slowly moving to that waterproof phone. Taking away all of those crevices slowly but surely.

Actually, your existing headphones are low tech. Analog ports are going bye-bye. This is basically the last hold out.
Just a hint to you. The types of ports you are sending the analog or digital sounds through is not what determines the sound quality.

If you take the DAC in your iPhone out of the phone and puts it into the controller on the cable to your headphones. Do you think the sound quality will be better just because you are sending the digital sound through the Lightning port and then to the DAC that has to convert that digital sound to analog sound anyways over sending the digital sound directly to the DAC that is inside the iPhone and then sends the analog sound from the DAC out via the 3.5mm minijack?

No, there wont be any differences.

It's the DAC and the speakers in the headphones that determines the sound quality and nothing else.

Not only that, but you can already use headphones with it's own DACs via the Lightning port and MicroUSB ports today.

But the question is. Why are pretty much no one using that today if it supposed to be so good?

Because no one gives a rat ass about it, because it doesn't makes any differences at all for peoples who only listens to MP3s or AAC files.

This is hard facts.

EDIT: And just to add. I think physical volume buttons are a good thing to keep for a long long time as i can differentiate between the volume up and volume down buttons. It will just be easier to find the right buttons to press when i want to change songs (by holding volume up or volume down to change songs) or want to increase or lower the volume while i'm playing music with the phone in my pocket.

Well you would hope that with edge to edge screen, it will have the same "palm rejection" tech that the iPad Pro uses, except a bit subtler for "finger rejections" on the edges.

All because of the "hassle" of just snapping one of these tiny things on all of your old headphones? Seems like something we'll completely forget is there by February.

Yes. Why would I pay Apple for the dongle, if I don't have to?

Removing headphone is nothing but squeezing every bit of profit while iPhone still floating.

Everything about the 2017 iPhone screams skipping 2016 is an excellent decision. Now give me greatly reduced bezels with that home button removal and you almost have a 100% sale out of me (three or four phones for the family).

They'll probably get rid of the mute switch as well, they already did with the iPad...

And, of course, don't forget about the headphone jack.
I'd be happy with this. I don't use it hardly enough to make me miss t but I know the blowback (on MR) would be similar to the 3.5mm port.
