I definitely see this happening. I think it's one less piece of hardware to eliminate and hopefully integrate some form of feature in which will be innovative. Eventually, any physical buttons will be all together deleted for waterproofing and more efficiency.

I guess the question now is whether we get the same screen sizes in a smaller physical body (no bezels), or a larger screen size with the same physical body size. I vote for smaller body. Been rocking the SE now for 2 month and absolutely love the size. I've managed to get used to a 4 inch screen. Granted I do carry two phones and have a 5.2 inch BB for other work, but surprisingly the SE does handle my daily needs.

There's just something to be said about a smaller more compact phone that is powerful, yet manageable in one hand.

I don't think you understand--you're not going to be able to use the top part of the screen for anything, because that's where the earpiece and camera are at, so you're not going to be seeing much of a difference, correct?

I'm about to keep my 6 plus 3 years on a rumor. It's also still a very good phone.

I've had a pretty solid feeling for a while now I was going to hang on to my 6 Plus for a 3rd year, this pretty much confirms it. And to the fanboys who get butt hurt at anyone who doesn't always buy the latest and greatest Apple devices... Yes, a new design is important to me.

I still have the 6 Plus and I'm keeping it. Since AT&T took away the 2 year subsidies I'm stuck. I'm going to save up for the 2017 phone. It should be awesome. This years model looks crummy.

Maybe touch ID goes on the side. You would only be getting a bit of the thumb in the sensor, but maybe that is still enough for a secure and duplicable password. You'd have to put that button on both sides of the phone. But hey, how often do you change the volume on your phone? And if you say a lot (which I do when listening to music), you will have two other ways to volume control: your apple watch and your bluetooth headset.

Theoretically, that would be great, but the cameras and microphones will never allow that to happen.

Well, it is not going to happen in the 10th Anniversary iPhone (yet).
Agreed that the cameras would be problematic, but it's not insurmountable.

The FaceTime (front facing) camera can just be duplicated on both ends.
The rear facing camera could be placed in the center of the phone which makes it symmetrical, though from a hardware / PCB layout point of view it is not ideal.

Why don't we already have no physical anything iPhone already.

Look, I get why you want to eliminate a home button. Why you'd want screen under that area is debatable.

As for your point, I'd counter with this... why are there still buttons on a keyboard? Shouldn't we already be using a flat slate that we just touch?

The answer of course is that physical movement is a tactile feedback. If they were really going "buttonless", why is the volume rocker still there? It literally does not make sense if all you want is software control. The reason they still exist is that people, real actual people, use the physical clicking of the volume buttons to provide (manually) haptic feedback on the amplitude of the soon-outdated headphone jack (which is crap as well).

So be careful what you wish for.

It's sad that the iPhone 7 is not even out yet and expectations are so low that we're looking forward to the iPhone 8. By the time it comes out Samsung may already have most if not all of those features in their phone.

"The radically redesigned iPhone coming in 2017". If the changes here are true, then I'd wait until 2018 to invest in this model.

More proof that Apple will have an iPhone similar to:
151026-iphone-7-concept-marek-weidlich-1200x675.jpg

Now proof that they have touch-id IN display like in the new MacBook

I seriously doubt they will have the hole for the earpiece in the middle of the screen.

Bring on that iPhone. I'm only 26 and somehow it'll make me feel young again (read: college years). Those "old" days when Apple would innovate.

The last year I remember an iPhone being awesome compared to everything else was the iPhone 4, which was the last year I was in college.

The last year Steve was running the store.

And Pay 399 upfront for 2 year contract.
And $40 a month.

That's "cheap" in Austria the new prices are like either pay 700 € upfront, or pay 25 € (phone) + 25 € (contract) for 2 years which is 50 bucks x 24 = 1.200 € for a freaking phone in terms of the note it would be around 1.400 € over 2 years lol.

Ibook love you signature, fully signed

Poor investment. It will go down in value from the moment you open the box. It's true -- consumer goods are goods, not investments. There is no return on capital with goods. You use them then, if not completely consumed, dispose of them at a price less than original cost -- sell, give away, throw away. Just saying.

Now with the 2018 model offer more bang or the buck, maybe. Will it offer more value, perhaps. But it's not something one invests in. It's a pure expenditure.

iPhone 10 rumours: WSJ reports that it won't have a screen

They are holding it wrong.

back in 2002 when sony erricsson launched P800, the flip phone with touch screen and a stylus, i had a vision someday touch screen would not need to have a stylus to work with, and the phone will be metal back and all glass front with no buttons. i had the vision, people didn't believe me, but it will finally happen in 2017. sweet

It's Apple. Just nod your head and go along with it.

Thats what we did with the new Macbooks.
Did you buy a MacBook? Did you want to buy a MacBook? If not, it probably wasn't made with your use case in mind. Plenty of people love their MacBooks. Don't knock it just because it's a product you don't happen to want.
