I wonder if she'll last. Retail VP is the Defense Against the Dark Arts position at apple.

Hired someone from Yves Saint Laurent
Hired someone from Burberrys
Hired someone from Nike

Seems like computers is truly not the only thing Cook has in mind.

Wearables. For something like that to succeed, eg a smartwatch, some fashion nous is needed.

Excellent point. It's not like these people bring the newest uh motherboard expertise with them.

This could be a good move though, based on gut feeling.

It’s a shame that Steve Cano didn’t get the promotion, but as long as he’s there he’ll always be influential.
She seems like a much better fit than John bloody Browett.

Could Apple products be more elitist?
Could they be more expensive?

Interesting times ahead!

isn't this a downgrade for her? From CEO of burberry to a Vice President!

You need to take the size of the company into account and not just the title. It is quite common for medium size company CEO taking a Fortune 400 SVP position. The most common path is when the company is acquired.

Also, I'm sure it is a much better hiring package far above anything her old outfit could afford. I bet she talks at the Oct. 22nd event this month.

Burberry have named their long-time creative director, Christopher Bailey, as their new CEO. An interesting move which really reinforces that they are a design-led company, and would be like putting Jony Ive in charge of Apple.

Apparently, Bailey is good mates with Jony, too. Perhaps that's how it all came together?

That fashion show that Burberry shot using an iPhone 5S did have a meaning behind it. Now we see it.

A woman in tech, here we go. Anyone want to guess the ratio of comments on her looks:comments on her merits as an executive will be?

You're aware that Apple is sometimes the most valuable company in the world, the most recognizable brand in the world, and did I mention it's often the most valuable company in the world?

You should also mention that she comes from a fashion shop and now switches to a better paid position at another fashion shop...

That reminds me of the extremely stupid decision that Jobs once made when he hired that Pepsi manager because back then he believed that when you know how to sell soft drinks, you also know how to sell electronics. But to be fair, Apple since then has changed to a producer of fashion accessories, so that lady probably is a really good fit for the 'new' Apple that's no longer a computer company.

She looks like half Christine Taylor and half Jennifer Aniston.

And I'm sure she is worth more than Christine and Jennifer combined. Plus she doesn't have the overhead of a bodyguard or publicity agent nor paparazzi following her around.

If you didn't know who she was, you'd guess just another business woman that carries herself well with a body of a type 24-Hour Fitness uses as promo ad.

Yep, and Eddy Cue is in Ferrari's board of directors :)

This strategy seems really appealing to me, way to reposition themselves away from the masses (Samsung) ;)

You do realize as the Retail SVP she's not going to be laying out circuit boards and deciding which brand of SSD is best for the new Mac Pros, right?

"I am thrilled that Angela will be joining our team," said Cook. "She shares our values and our focus on innovation, and she places the same strong emphasis as we do on the customer experience. She has shown herself to be an extraordinary leader throughout her career and has a proven track record."

Cook couldn't say any of those things about Browett. Not with a straight face anyway.

Apple hasn't been a leading edge technology company since the Apple /// launch. The Mac was not just a market game changer, it transformed Apple into a fashion company with computers and technology as their canvas.

Steve Jobs regularly talked with fashion executives during his entire career. I'm surprised that no big wig from Levi-Strauss decided to do a reverse commute from the Peninsula into Cupertino instead of the City.

I'm not sure that will happen, she's staying on at Burberry until mid-2014.

If she doesn't talk, I'm sure she'll be in the wings around the event learning the ropes.

1) Will she last longer than John Browett?

2) If she wasn't wearing lipstick in that main photo, it would be hard to tell if she had any lips at all.

3) Why didn't Apple hire from within for this position? Surely, someone there is all ready more than capable for this particular job?
