I'm excited and pissed at the same time...I'm not sure If it's going to just be a huge software upgrade... Or also a huge hardware refresh... I just got the 2010 mbp when it came out :/

This is clearly about the 10.7 Lion beta and of course some minor MacBook refreshes.

Didn't Apple already announce at a previous event that their holiday lineup was complete?

I'd expect this to deal with Mac OS X and some of those "new, revolutionary" features they were hiring for.

I'm sure there will be info about OS X 10.7. Hopefully a new MBA as well, maybe a slight CPU bump for MBPs. Also iLife + iWork.

Or then it's something completely different and amazing

Beat me to the punch with Liger but don't forget its equally impressive counterpart, the Tigon.

I think Panther is left and Cheetah.
Puma, Lynx
Panther would be my guess for next after Lion.

Steve jobs during the keynote:
It's a major step forward from Snow Leopard. This Mac screams. It's fast, really fast. And it's powerful. It's very, very powerful. Like a lion. Therefore, it's logically enough that we name our new operating system Mac OS X Lion.

And just like the lion is king of the jungle, so too, is Mac OS X Lion the king of all the operating systems.

(People loudly applaud.)

Makes sense to me. Powerful and king of the X, whatever it is.

Yes, that's how I see it.

You're all welcome. I waited so freaking long to update to snow leopard because the first year it came out I thought it wasn't worth the minor upgrade. Then I waited this year thinking I might buy a whole new mac. I just bit the bullet and upgraded to Snow Leopard 2 weeks ago needing it to get into iPhone development properly (can't develop for iOS4 without it) and getting antsy over no new OS X update announcement.

Oh well, it was only $30, hopefully 10.7 is just as cheap.

But a lion is king of the beasts. Nothing can top it. After 10.7 comes 11?

My thoughts exactly. We get another 2 years starting now os OSX and bam 11 comes out. Probably a fusion hybrid of OSX and iOS incorporating the first touch features on desktops.
