Apple to Host 'Back to the Mac' Media Event on October 20th

Fingers Crossed they'll sell within a week.. my macbook won't hold a charger. and everytime i move to far the magsafe pops out, and BAM shut down.

So i need a new computer.. like NOW.

Ah what timing. The 12" PowerBook G4 is seriously on its last leg. (Didn't help that it fell out of the bag onto the pavement either haha)

C'mon Apple, you know you have to use the name Cougar eventually...

x2! Looking to replace my 12" PowerBook with a new small MacBook or MacBook Air.

Appears to be a tiger?

um...how much more obvious does something have to be before you call it what it is?

commentator: "someone who appears to be Steve Jobs just took the stage at the keynote...let's wait and see if it is really him."

speaker: "Hi everyone, welcome to the magical keynote address, which is incredible and amazing."

commentator: "ok, that's him."

I also like the title. They've spent the last two years on nothing but iOS stuff... time for some Mac love.

actually a mountain lion is the same as leopard and puma.

the picture is definitly of a lion, not a mountain lion.

hopefully there will be an update with facetime for ichat.

I doubt MBA will be introduced there UNLESS it's something major, e.g. 11.6" model etc. Apple has done significant updates silently in the past, 27" iMacs for instance so they won't waste time on MBA if it's just a minor spec change.

It sounds very interesting and promising though, lets keep our thumbs up!

A glimpse of 10.7. Fun surprise! Res-independence at last?

At least "Lion" is slightly less ridiculous-sounding than Leopard.

Now... make the Air faster (it’s been too long) and add the buttonless glass trackpad!

...

Or we’re about to find out otherwise....

(And there have actually been lots of new Macs in the last two years, including major redesigns for the iMac, Mini and white MacBook. Plus released software changes like iTunes, Safari, and new trackpad features—not just maintenance patches.)

This is good timing, I am thinking about getting a MacBook Pro but was worried that if I get one now they will release something really great right after. So either they will announce it on the 20th, or if this is purely an OS X.7 event with no change to the MBPro line, then I can feel safe in making a purchase now.

I do know eventually there will be some wonderful new MBP that will make mine look silly, but at least it will be a little while.

Wow this is very exciting.
First toughts upon seeing the invitation:
1. the silver background is like the notebok line (pro & air)
2. Th turning logo implies i think of something really slim as well (air)
3. New OS named lion but then what? OS XI? I dont thing they can nput another cat after the king right?

No Mac for old men...

Pure awesome sauce!

And hopefully will shut up the whiners who have been contemplating the 'end of the mac' for the past couple of years.

Mac is every bit as important to Apple as their mobile products.

:DLOL!!! That rumor has been in circulation for more like' 2-decades. Yes, I'm old as dirt, as my first Mac dates back to 1984. Still, I'm not a die-hard fanboy as I'm buying the Windows-7 phone.
Regards,
Dan

This is Apple's TIME! With this update, they can finally rise up and show Google who owns the desktop space! We're going to see mobile integration, cloud computing, and the world of social networking with the desktop! Google is going to be quaking and cowering as Apple's meteoric rise crashes right through their territory and sends them scattering!

I'm in the same position. I've been ready to upgrade my early 2008-era MacBook to a MacBook Pro but was holding out for the "pending" update. I'm not expecting anything more than maybe a speedbump to the existing line, but that's fine for me.

Facetime for iChat will be there. I'm not an Apple dev, but I'm sure for 100% that it will be shown there. If not, I'll buy myself a hat and eat it before my iSight cam. I'll upload the movie so you can laugh at it.

But I'm sure it will be there. Just, what else?

Perhaps the "one more thing" will be that the iPhone will be coming to Verizon? That would be a huge event for Apple! The OSX clan gets a long awaited main event and the people waiting for a VZW iPhone will finally get their announcement at the end. I could totally see Apple sneaking a VZW iPhone into an OSX event to make everybody happy all the way around.
