Some of you need to get out of your bubbles ... it's as if you think (aside from the two coasts) nothing else happens in this country from a tech and innovation perspective. Chicago gets a bad rap in the media due to gang violence, which is a little comical given 90%+ of it is isolated to a few bad hoods on the south and west sides (miles away from the city center). There's nothing "odd" or "curious" about this event being hosted in Chicago ... a global, world class city that just so happens to be one of the fastest growing tech incubators in the nation.

Yes Chicago gets a bad rap! And event being held at my High School!

I don’t think so. This is in line with what people have been speculating all along, the launch of a new budget iPad. They’re not going to be marketing iPad Pros at the education sector.
I think Apple would disagree with you, based off the iPad Pro ad with the little girl we all know and love :p Also for high schoolers and or even certain college students the iPad Pro has become a truly great laptop replacement.

You misunderstand me. I’m talking about selling in bulk to schools. As a public school teacher for over 10 years now, I can tell you that companies don’t market premium products at schools because they know we can’t afford them!

RE: "iOS 11.3 availability with ..."

10-bit color "capture" !

Specifically, BGR10A2Unorm via AVCaptureVideoDataOutput.

If so, then making 10-bit color photos AND 1080p HD HDR videos becomes a possibility !

There are other factors involved, but Apple has been putting some of the other pieces in-place (e.g., PQ and HLG), while other key elements can be crafted by third-party Devs (e.g., custom ICtCp enhancements).

I believe Apple simply needs to "throw a switch" on Apple mobile devices with an A10 or newer processor, to support 10-bit color capture on such devices.

Ben Geskin has just tweeted “Macbook Air (13”) coming” with a reply to a tweet about the invites going out. Interesting.

Well I was right about the date but the venue and education focus has me stumped about whether we'll still get anything outside of that like expensive AirPower mats and an iPhone SE 2. Guess it depends on whether or not the whole thing is focused on education or if they split it into two parts or something. Maybe they could start out with the usual fanfare and then dive into education. Working in higher ed where our funds are being cut every single year now, I'd love to see some lower Mac prices for students, faculty and staff. Education is the biggest thing that will make America great again and Apple has the ability to help improve that.

I was going to say you were correct on the date you predicted last week. However, I think there might be an iPad update, but the SE seems unfitting for a Keynote like this. I think others are to way focused thinking this will be a major hardware Keynote and I don’t believe it will be, as Apple will keep the focus more to the education sector, maybe with some hardware.

I think a low cost iPad and maybe the rumoured cheaper MacBook Air, it fits better as the Air is popular with, students. I don’t think we will see the iPad Pro’s or MacBook Pro’s at this event. As I’ve said in a previous post, a leaker Ben Geskin not long tweeted “MacBook Air (13’) coming”

I agree about the iPad and MacBook Air. Both of those products make complete sense for an event like this. An updated SE would not. (Which may not refresh at all). If anything, Apple could silently update other products for availability like Watch bands, Airpower and wireless battery charging case for the Airpods on their website.

Lovely. Another opportunity for Cook to foist off iPads on people rather than what they actually want....

For an additional $100, you now can get the Apple Pen! Draws lines that can't be erased without the $149 Apple Whiteout Marker!

Schools are already getting iPad at $299, not $329. And that is excluding all the other offer that sweetens the deal.

Macbook Air for Schools are $849.

It wasn't too long ago Apple's educational discount were only 10% off. Now it is closer to 20%.

So I dont think Apple will offer more then 20% discount for Educations. But may be the event will announce new reduced pricing for Macbook Air, starting at $899 instead. And Educations will get it at $749? And iPad reduced to $299 with Educational pricing at $249.

I honestly dont think, even with these new pricing, will be good enough for Schools currently using or thinking of switching to Chromebook. So I think something along with Apple Music, iCloud Features and Books, iTunes U will be used to sweeten the deal.

Or May be Apple will give Education iPad buyer a free Smart Keyboard.

Competing with Chromebook is hard, I hope they have even more surprises.

I don’t think you can speak for what everyone wants. A lower priced iPad with decent specs is actually the only Apple product I can see myself buying in 2018.
You're right. The numbers speak for themself. Chromebooks are eating iPads in education left and right and rather than admit that what education wants aren't expensive iPads Cook and co are going to double-down on their mistake.
