Personally I find the iPhone at $199.00 to be a fine price. My biggest grip is AT&T. I cancelled my iPhone and paid the early term fee because of my 90% call drop rate while driving. Introduce the iPhone on Verizon next year and Apple will be the king of mobile phones.

I think it would be wiser for Apple not only to announce but to release. If people were to see what Apple is going to release, but not have the ability to get it the day-of, they have to wait a month and the alternative of getting the Pre in that time is a little bit more enticing.

Assuming their ready to release, I totally agree. But if they need say another 2 to 4 weeks, and they announce the date next week, a lot of people will wait to see what the early adopters of the Pre have to say. If the Pre gets good reviews, maybe people will go buy it, but if not, they could wait a few weeks and get the iPhone. The last thing people want is a repeat of last years rollout. Apple should take the time to get it right this time.

It's an academic discussion anyway cause there are very few Pre's available in the beginning. You might not be able to buy one even if you wanted to. I'm guessing the iPhone will be widely available before the Pre is.

just yesterday i tried to talk to an AT&T store employee about the 'new iphone' that's coming next week and he tried his best to act like he didn't know what i was talking about. yeah right!

Contrary to your belief, they havent given any indication, even to upper management in AT&T including the CEO's that there is even gonna be another iPhone. Everything is rumored so far. Nothing has been definitive or fact. So before you believe that AT&T stores are holding out information just know that they are holding it out from the stores also. The stores are basically told to not to discuss it so that may have paid into his reluctance to even discuss it. Believe me, they have no clue what's going on. They are waiting to hear just like we are.

I believe you're exactly right. Same story at Apple's retail stores. They never know anything in advance, either.

I believe some mobile phone warehouse place (forget the name, but you all know who I mean im sure:p) have place holders in for a few new iphone models - now, wether these are real or they ahve ay word or not is another story, however I don't think theyd have place holders for a new phoen with no word from someone significiant. Also, Fido (rogers little brother in canada) issued an end of life on teh 16gb iphone, cirrent version. Not sayign they are dropping the iphone, or 16gb at all, just that the _current_ model is at EOL.. so here's hoping new phones, well know next week I guess:) I could care less about 32gb, TBH, i need the better battery life because i'm traveling a lot for work on long flights :(

Still not buying it... Wouldn't even buy it if it were free... Now if it were for T-mobile, that's a different story.

Although this would be great for my Apple stocks, I fear that you are exaggerating it a wee tiny bit.

In addition, I'm still seeing a lot of people hating Apple because it's becoming popular. It's crazy but I have talked to people who own Nokia's calling iPhone owners conformists…

There is a lot of non-rational hate for Apple that doesn't only apply ti the iPhone or iPods. I guess this is also due to many fundamentalist Apple Fanboys that are around that keep flaming MS for al that it's worth..

So, even IF a cheap iPhone WOULD be introduced (which I have to see to believe), I think many people will stick to their Nokia's, Samsungs and HTC's just because they are not willing to join the Apple customer group.. Sad, but true..

I personally think non-conformists are sad people. You do not define yourself by purposely not belonging to a certain group.

I use to have a PC till I got the new iMac 2 weeks ago, all I can say is that the Hype for Mac products is true, Mac kicks ass and that's it, if someone doesn't want to get a Mac product just becaue is "popular" in this case is there lost!

All I can say to myself is why did I wait so lonnng to get a Mac, in a good way the wait was good because now I have a 8g memory for my iMac:D

They make good reliable computers with no bs, no pop up messages that comes up every 5 minutes like PC. Plus excellent customer service.

Apple just earned a new Mac junkie LOL

Old news

"Apple to Introduce Cheaper iPhone at WWDC?". Come one! How many times have we seen that headline in the last month?

Why is MacRumors reporting this as if it's some major revelation?

A $99 4GB iPhone has been strongly rumored for well over a week now. And price cuts to the iPhone have also been rumored and for a lot longer.

This is not new news and tells us nothing we didn't already know -or could predict ourselves. These analyst companies take everyone else's rumors and present them as their own and then we fawn all over their amazing insight and wisdom.

There's bajillions of websites who've taken up the $99 4GB iPhone story in the last week, and just as many who've for ages been proposing Apple would cut the price of or subsidize iPhones, so I don't see why MacRumors should report Financial Times' version of either.

Please, MR, if you 're going to report rehashes of old rumors, at least indicate that in your articles. eg "Like many other observers, Financial Times is also reporting Apple will introduce..."

I want a cheaper iphone in the sense that I don't want to pay $70 a month. I don't care about initial price, I just want lower monthly plans.

Yeah- but how many of these miserable bastards do you think there are? Wait- you're right. I just counted three in my family... :)

Apple leads the world in conferences with overblown expectations and disappointing results.

Well, who do you think sets overblown expectations???

NoI don't think Apple those:apple, or else we would know what's coming out and therefore they would have no need for World Conferences.

People set expectations on what they would like to see, and everyone runs with it.

My point, don't set expectations, and let Monday come in peace.

Are you kidding, Apple lives for stuff like this. They're overly secretive about product roadmaps, they drop tantalizing tidbits geared to get the blogosphere a-twitter, they put up enticing banners alluding to wonderful things coming. It's all to get the media and PR wheels turning and fire up the faithful.

make an iphone nano, sell it unlocked at retail, take over the world.
Seriously. The main reason I don't have an iPhone is because I don't want to be a customer of AT&T. I need a new iPod, though. And I'd like to have a new phone with more flexibility in the applications dept. Make it a 4 GB, or even a 2GB, smaller screen is okay, too. Because I'd actually like something smaller than an iPhone but the same (candybar) form factor. Sell it unlocked.

There is a lot of non-rational hate for Apple that doesn't only apply to the iPhone or iPods.

It's the same for nearly any company that is number one in their class. Years ago there was a clear dominate rental car company. The second largest company garnered a lot of business by positioning themselves as "number two". People have an affinity for the underdog, so to be number one and be loved, a company has to play a very careful PR game.

I suppose there are several courses a company can take, but the one I am most aware of is to position themselves as the desired choice. IBM did it in the 50s to 70s with the Selectric Typewriter. They were able to garner a good share of the early PC market due to the image in the public's mind surrounding the typewriter. I think, in some ways Apple has been able to do a similar thing.

IBM lost the PC market when they began to follow behind the competitors in advanced CPUs, built-in memory, and I/O ports.

So far, Apple has led their target markets, and so long as they can do that, they will perservere.

One of the reasons for Microsoft's success is that to switch to a different OS means abandoning all their old software. So changing to a Mac (or other OS) means both a hardware and software outlay.

You can see where that doesn't mean as much when a college student goes out to buy a computer, they select a Mac one-third of the time.

Now, it has become Apple's advantage for people buying hand-held games and music players, and cell phones. Those that purchase Apple products become more and more invested in apps and music from iTunes and will be increasingly harder to temp away by other devices.

Congrats! I've been a happy Mac user since May 1984. I started when OS v1.1g came out. The experience of using a Mac will only get better with each new use you find for your Mac. (early models make fine bird houses and mailboxes). :)

Now, sit down and be careful to not spill your Koolade. ;)

I'd be okay with this:D do I see it happening:rolleyes:....NOPE

T-Mobile Sucks:mad:

While I can understand differences in how well the carrier is in your area (e.g. T-Mobile is fantastic where I live), T-Mobile has one thing going for it and that's probably the best cellular customer support (if not the best in general). The plans are also significantly cheaper than the AT&T's gouging plan - you would think that Apu Nahasapeemapetilon ran AT&T.
