Yes I saw your post, originally planned to change up my post stating that there will not be a design change, I assume that I forgot mid post. LOL

I really think the nano will be on Verizon. Apple will get out of the ATT contract by saying it isn't the same phone.
They implied with this that they wouldn't enter the segment with cheapo hardware like the current netbooks. Entering the segment with Apple hardware that has just become cheaper to produce is an entirely different matter.
Hate to say it, MacNut, but I think that's wishful thinking. When Verizon moves to 4G from CDMA, then we're more likely to see an iPhone offered through them.
And you can rest assured that Apple would love to get out of their exclusive contract with AT&T and broaden their reach in the US.
It'll happen. Just not for a few more years.
I don't know why cheaper phone hardware would stimulate anything in the USA. It is not the price of the phone, it is the stratospheric, astronomical monthly fee from AT&T that keeps people from buying. $70/month people, plus tax, lots of tax!
And I'm not talking about cutting the data fee. It's the minimum voice plan that is the problem. Give people a 50 minute plan, a 100 minute plan at a $19.95 rate, That would get things jumping!
Saying that all netbook are Cheapo is not true though. Look at Sony's Netbook. Even HP has a very nice netbook. I still think Apple is going where the money is right now, and its not there computers.
This is a tough one because Apple is making so much money from AT&T! They make a killing off the monthly fee's and no other provider was going to give Apple that.
I wouldn't complain if the iPhone was cheaper.
... Analysts are predicting the cut would be either $50 or $100. If true, the drop would significantly stimulate sales of Apple's iPhone by up to 100%...
who cares about the cost of the phone.
I have several friends with iPhones that never (and I mean never) use any of the data capabilities on the phone. They just use the device as a phone that has an iPod built in and get no real benefit from the unlimited data plan that they are paying heavily for.
for me more important than a cheap iPhone version is AT&T offering a no data plan for someone who wants an iPhone but do not want to pay $20 to $30 a month for the data.
So they want to use the iPhone and for data use wi-fi.
No, the iPod Touch does not work, because it has no phone.
So does this mean the new iPhone will ONLY come in one single, cheap, stripped-down version????????Or will they do the thing that was rumored all along, which is a high-end, feature-packed iPhone with bigger capacity, and a cheaper, smaller-capacity one with less features??????
Cuz I don't want a cheapie iPhone... I'll gladly pay an arm & leg for an awesome piece of Apple technology, not some Wal-Mart iPhone.
Apple doesn't get a cut of the monthly fee anymore. That is why 3G owners can get FAN discounts on their lines now.
Do you have a link to this? That would be very interesting to see Apples bound agreement to them getting a cut of revenues all the sudden end. My company has been getting FAN discounts since about 2 weeks after the iPhone was originally introduced.
The price drop will probably entice more buyers but the most cost prohibitive part of the iphone is the monthly plan. If they don't offer a cheaper plan to go with an entry level iphone I wonder how much of an impact it will make.
I highly doubt you will see a no data plan, but you might see an option to get an iPhone with a capped data plan, say something like 5MB per month for substantially less than the current plan costs.
As to comments about why would anyone want to save $50 a month and have less features, there are plenty of people willing to do this, just look at the price difference between iPods.
Personally I would expect to see a revised iPod running $199-$299 and possibly the current model or a revised version of it running at $99 along with the offer of lower cost plans for those who don't need unlimited data.
