Ugly beast, but I will probably get something similar and have it plugged in all the time.

So much for a sleek looking product.

I'm skeptical. Maybe on an iMac, but not a MacBook Pro. I think it's possible they'll include an adaptor though. Not with a USB-C MBA, but with a 15" MacBook Pro.
So many people dissagree with something I strongly think will happen. I say we start a "mac-pool". I'm gonna be RICH!

Awesome. I'm not much of a OSX fan (I prefer windows personally), but if I like what I see, then I'll get a mac again.

God damn Apple and those lovely trackpads.

I appreciate everyone's excitement but until invites go out, I'll just hold my excitement. I'm exhausted with all these rumors but no confirmation but hey, I guess this is just that...a rumor.

I'm more exhausted with the lack of actual leaks! That's definitely something unusual (not a first, but close)

FINALLY! I have my early 2015 13" rMBP and need an upgrade!

Please give us that Matte Black colour!

You're kidding o_O

Rmember when you thought the same thing about your current MBP?

An now it will sadly be set aside into the shadows, collecting dust and wondering if anyone will ever love it again.

:(

Yes, I want one too.

And it's only going to have USB-C ports and nothing else. Not even a Magsafe 2 charger. I'm not sure I will upgrade to a new Mac in the coming years.
But the nice thing about using a USB C charger is that there are now many accessories that will work with it, including many external battery packs.

Anker has some very large ones that work with USB C that could potentially provide 1-2 full charges from empty. With so many phones going to USB C charging ports, it would make it easy to interchange as well.

Well if the new MacBook Pro is impressive enough I'll sell my current MBP for a new one. I'm kinda worried about the keyboard though.

If Jobs were still alive, you wouldn't have to worry about it. Will this be KeyboardGate?
Just hold the keyboard the right way and you'll be OK.

Please, Apple, powerful video chips in the MBPs.....

From what I've heard, the video chips will be so powerful, you'll still be able to see the screen with your eyes closed.

Like what!? :O Honestly, I thought SD cards were still in the game.
Good question, really most DSLRs (which is what most professionals use for both photo and video these days) use SDXC, which have a theoretical limit of 2TB and ultra fast read and write speeds, so I don't see those going anywhere soon.

Mine was doing the same thing; it's a known problem in the video section of the logic board. Take it in to an Apple store and they'll replace the logic board FREE. Runs like new now. Put in an SSD and I'm good for a few more years.

It's possible you have some other problem, but it's really worth your time to take it in.

I did wonder if it was GPU related, I might take it in at some point though the nearest Apple Store is a fair journey. In all honesty I'm due for an upgrade anyway, I'd really like a lighter and smaller laptop for lectures and I'd need to replace the battery were I to carry on using it, and I don't feel like sinking any more money into it.

The FaceTime camera is also intermittently not working, as are the speakers. It's basically on its last legs. It's still very fast and capable - I've put an SSD in it, and it can probably rival even the most modern MBPs - it's just that other parts of it are showing age. I'd also like Bluetooth 4 for things like Handoff and Apple Watch unlock.

May be worth getting Apple to repair it before the programme ends for resale value though I suppose.

Please leave an HDMI or even mini HDMI... I'm probably in the minority on this but it's nice to have a near-universal display output option for those moments when you forget your bag-o-dongles.
We have just reached the point where HDMI has mostly replaced VGA for connecting laptops to presentation screens/projectors in office meeting rooms and conference venues ... and now Apple abandons HDMI?

I think if the new MBP has the crappy Macbook keyboard and no more standard ports except USB-C, I'll buy another 2015 13" MBP as a backup for my current one (which I'm still very happy with). Hopefully they will be available at a steep discount when the new models come out.

I'm more interested in a new desktop Mac though ...

They definitely need to keep the SD card slot since those cards are getting so cheap and fast that they can serve as a second disk drive to add significant amounts of storage. In fact, they should include the new UHS-II standard (bus) that offers read and write speeds of well over 100MB/s.

If they remove the SD card slot then Apple is getting pretty lame, there is absolutely no reason why Apple can't support the latest storage options in their PCs.

If they remove the SD slot then it's a no-buy for me. To all of the people who say "you don't need one", that's fine if YOU don't, but some do.

I predict this is the second-to-last refresh of the MBP before its "converged" into a dumbed-down iOS device. Because, after all, 'who needs a laptop?'

I guess we'll see on the 27th.

I'm really excited to see what Apple brings to the table. However, reading the rumors about no SD card slot and about USB 3-only ports on the new MBP's, I'm really interested to see what Microsoft brings to the table next spring with the Surface Book 2, as that may be the laptop that I go with. To be determined. My "shiny new gadget" syndrome may kick in after seeing the new MBP's in person, though. TBD.

I simply don't want a machine that does away with the legacy ports, and my Mac is still doing quite well. I welcome usb-c, but I'd like it phased in alongside the older ports. A lot of us have a great many peripherals with older connectors.

Here's the problem, peripheral makers will often sit and wait until they're forced to adopt new standards and until they do you have ports with no options and everyone says, "Why bother with <new port>?"

If one of the biggest laptop makers says, "We're ditching the old stuff." The industry as a whole moves because it has to. I have historically commended Apple for this. It's also standard operating procedure for Apple. It has been forever.

One port to rule them all that can be adapted to virtually anything is awesome. I still don't get all the griping about adapters. If you need to be on the road, you're going to need a power adapter at the very least. For that you need a bag. Generally if you have peripherals that need USB-A you have those with you. Hey, you need a bag. I don't think a couple of dongles are going to weigh anyone down, especially since their combined weight is probably less than the weight reduction on the laptop itself.

For those people who apparently never carry a bag or a power adapter with them but still need HDMI or Ethernet or whatever, I have news for you: you're not a big enough demographic that Apple cares. Not even slightly.

For the two most common use cases: bare laptop that's all wireless or laptop with an adequate carrying case, dongles are a nonissue except for those looking for reasons to complain. As someone who uses a serial port still (console on some network devices) I don't break out into tears every time I plug in my... dongle. When I use Ethernet I'm either on a hub or I go through the Herculean effort of plugging in my Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter. No biggie since I'm plugging in the Ethernet cable anyway.

My only real fear about this release is that there isn't some backwards compatibility connector for TB2. I am in a minority here, but I have a lot of TB peripherals. I don't mind an adapter, but one needs to exist at launch. Replacing all my Thunderbolt devices with new ones will happen in time but those docks are $200+ a piece and I'll be surprised if any TB3 docks are available at launch. (Super excited about a single cable for power and data though.)

There will be Black I think but it may be accompanied by Space Grey rather than Jet Black. it would be extremely hard to manufacture on the MacBook Pro, not to mention the scratches. Having said that, it would look amazing.... before you touch it.

Back to white, pretty please!!! Since, you know, there once existed BLACK and white Macbooks...

Isn't the SD card reader on the Mac just hooked up to the internal USB bus? Why wouldn't you just use a USB cord straight to the camera then?

It draws camera battery.

I will buy one, but I really like to hear their explanation why it was necessary, The only reason I can think of was that they broke easily and Apple didn't want to repair them.

I also think it was a mistake to remove the MagSafe. It was a differentiator and one of the reason to buy a Mac instead of a PC. Only reason I can think of there is some patent issue.

Daily kernel panics on my early 2011 MBP, just hold out for a couple more weeks...

My 2011 MBP was experiencing the same issue a month ago. Brought it in to an Apple store with a printout of the extended service issue for these machines. They tested it out to see if the GPU was at fault, it was. They took it off my hands for a week and replaced the motherboard at no cost.

It may be heavy but it has a DVD, magsafe, ethernet, FireWire800, Thunderbolt1, 2xUSBA, SD card slot, audio in, and audio out. Also has upgraded memory to 16GB, HD to 1TB SSD, plus a matte display. I'm keeping this machine as long as possible as evidence of a time when Apple made computers worthy of a "Pro" moniker.

I appreciate the educational piece offered here. I do understand. It does not change my view, however.

Dongle away.
