Please let this be true!

Then we can all switch from complaining about no new Macs to complaining about the new Macs ;)
We are already complaining, about Macs that haven't been released.
I guess the complaints will depend on the scope of the update to the Mac line.;)
I'm in the market for desktop Macs.
Let's see Apple's move in that sub-line.

Well if the new MacBook Pro is impressive enough I'll sell my current MBP for a new one. I'm kinda worried about the keyboard though.

The shallow keyboard does it for me. No new macs this year. Or probably ever because they seem to think someone can actually use that keyboard to work. The other changes are annoyances but something that I might be able to live with somehow. But the keyboard? Hell no.

What do I do with 4 USB-C ports??? I have nothing to plug into them.

Don't worry. You can waste a few hundred $ on different dongles you then get to carry around with you to be able to connect anything. You'll have so many new apple logos everywhere you'll be bursting with joy - and might not notice they replaced the keyboard with a onscreen keyboard. It's almost like having a touchscreen!

Apple have been amazing at keeping the Mac refreshes confidential. There were a few intentional leaks to see market reaction, but I think they pushed the attention towards the iPhone 7 leaks. There will be other Mac updates. Although I do hope the iMac is refreshed next year when all the new gen components are ready.

I'm pretty sure they'll ignore the market reaction and stick in that shallow useless piece of crap keyboard. And force us to buy a second laptop bag just for dongles. Because that's what pro users want? Or maybe just **** up the Air so people can buy ultrathin useless laptop if that's what they're after and leave the Pro model the hell alone. Or maybe add a new model that's something people can actually use. I guess it's off to Windows after all these years. No way in hell I'm using the shallow keyboard. They should at least offer a real keyboard as a configurable option.

I don't mean to troll but as a techy-nerd (and potential OCD candidate) I feel I must correct some confusion I keep seeing on these boards.

I am not really sure why you are quoting my post for this but this does not make you less correct of course. I was simply saying that most users would just need to switch the mini-to-A cable they user right now to connect their HDD to a mini-to-C cable. So this entire OMG WE LOSE PORTS thing is massively overblown.

I'm vaguely aware! SD cards are slow. I'm surprised why people are still so attached to them. Plus it's nothing that a $10 converter can't fix.
You can get fast ones in the 100s of mb/s.
I'm attached to mine because they are attached to my camera
And how many external things do I need to buy?

USB-A, DVD, network, magsafe, SD, HDMI hmmm...

Exactly what I said earlier, for me all I needed to buy was..

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00WJSP...olid=1ZCAGPCONPAPC&coliid=I32PI82SK4LFF&psc=1

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00VUKLYCM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And everything is covered.

The Macrumors front page article says "Re/code does not detail which Macs will receive a refresh at the event, but Apple's entire Mac lineup, aside from the Retina MacBook, is in need of a refresh." WTF is that ? does the Retina Macbook especially 15" not need a upgrade ? How can these people say that the everything besides Retina Macbook need a refresh. The 15" rMBP hasnt seen a refresh since last what 2 years now ? I am already getting very disspointed and nervous about this 27th event if they do not refresh the 15' rMBP ? what do you guys think is the 15" rMBP in line for a upgrade too ?

Retina MacBook is the 12" MacBook released last year and updated earlier this year, it's nothing to do with the rMBP 15".

Then I guess by that reasoning we shouldn't be using any kind of flash storage? Flash-based chip storage is the future and there is no reason why you couldn't make an SD card just as reliable as that SSD in your computer right now. The only real barrier is the cost and the size of the chips (or their capacity).

A big factor is the controller and also the quality of the flash chip itself. I agree with you of course that an SD card uses the same underlaying tech as an enterprise-SSD and could potentially be as reliable. However, as far as I know (and my knowledge here is admittedly very fragmented and incomplete), manufacturers usually don't go that far because of economic reasons.

As there are no Kaby Lake 28w/45w CPU's available which are used in the Pro's, does this mean the new MacBook Pro's will be Skylake based? I will be avoiding them until the Q2 2017 refresh if that is the case. I'm not buying computers with a previous generation's architecture.

Technically, Skylake is current generation ;)

keep adding to that collection of dongles...

Heard a rumour that Apple is bringing out a dongle bag. Angela said they will have a gold version as well as a Burberry one.

So why did Jobs put it in there in the first place? It's not like SD cards are being used less today, on the contrary, or there is a good alternative. I can't transfer pictures using Wifi or Bluetooth.

Why do you want to remove it? To get 30 seconds more battery time? Cut the cost of the product by $5

Sorry, I don't see the case.

He has Apple fanboiitis. I used to but beginning to see the light.

Could the new mini be even weaker than the current models?
Not weaker as such, but quite possible that there'll be no return to a quad core mini - which is what folks are hoping for here. However, I'd expect that the graphics will be sufficient to push 4K@60Hz comfortably (hopefully even a 5K display, but that may be wishful thinking)

You wanna hear something crazy?

I'll tell you right now my Type-C future, so far one device AppleTV 4.

Besides that, unless the iPhone 7s/8 has Type-C, for the next 5-8 years, I am going to go knee deep in USB-3 and ThunderBolt-2 devices and just be "chilling like a villain."

I am dead serious! 5-8 years abstaining from Type-C.

The only other chance is an ArmBook, that has Type-C, or if they still make a MacBook Pro Gen 2, then one of those in 3 years.

BUT after my 5 year hiatus, and denial, if and when Type-C coupled with TB3 is flying smoother than silk, and all the drives are SSD or even Optane, and transfer at a minimum of 750 MB/s (capital B).

THEN I will dive deep into Type-C with TB3.

All new RAID 5 enclosures
External Backup SSD drives
All new flash drives
New Flatbed Scanner
New Battery Packs
New Type-C Hubs
WebCams
4K Monitors x6
Audio/Midi Interfaces
etc
YOU NAME IT
but I already got most of that crap!
I have an Apple ecoSystem of 20 plus years built on FW400 FW800 USB1 USB2 USB3 ESATA TB1 TB2 DP HDMI
And all of it WORKS!

So 5 year HIATUS for me.

I am just gonna kick back, and start making a list and comparing product after product for 5 years, then during the 5-8 year period, then I am going start digging in. I'm not bragging or anything, but man unless you are starting out fresh like 15 years old to 30 years old, and going to get all up in this, then GREAT go Type-C have fun.

But seriously, to use Type-C to it's fullest would mean, "to me", having my whole environment, rearranged and upgraded to Type-C, because I wouldn't want to look back at any of those old crusty connectors. I would just want to be like "connect from this to this NO PROBLEM Type-C, from this to this, NP Type-C, that to that NP Type-C, and ALL OF IT FAST"

Because what's the point of abandoning all of these other connectors and connections, to have a simple Type-C and then just to plug in a power cable, external drive, or iPhone? I mean if this is gonna truly be like the last stand with the cables and connectors, then when ALL the devices ARE THERE, and it's IN FULL USE, GREAT. Not to mention lower prices.

I don't want to get taxed for 5 years...

Just my 2 cent's but I'll see you when I'm 50...50! damn it's going by quick! HAHAHAHAH

Oh yeah and Ethernet!

I mean seriously Type-C is NO JOKE, it's the END of an ERA...

Come on Ben. We both know that this technology meets the minimum functionality on paper. We also know the drawbacks with speed and reliability. Very few in the professional video industry would still exclusively use SD cards. They've moved onto bigger and better things.

We're talking a $20 adapter for legacy work. My original point was that I don't understand why people are so bitter about the SD card slot being removed.
Because Apple are removing something I use and thats not the only thing, cat networking, dvd, hdmi, 3.5mm, USB-A, removable battery, replaceable ram...

What If I removed all except the power port from the Apple TV?
They could always remove the trackpad from the laptop? I can plug one in if I need one.
They could remove that old fashioned qwerty keyboard, I can plug one in.

Its not as if we really need a Mac anyway just use an iPad and plug everything in to that (wirelessly of course) :D

Where does it all stop? Probably with me switching away from Apple. I'd hate to add up how much I have spent on Apple gear over the years.

A lightning connector port so you can plug in the new expensive headphones you just bought to work with your iPhone 7 ?
